Boon and friends were scratching around for a name to be given to the god of thunder and one of them stumbled over the name "Indra"(The name of the Hindu god of thunder) and rearranged the letters to get "Raidn".Because that didn't spell right they added an "e" and got Raiden and then for some reason changed it to Rayden....
Its just a theory....
What do you guys say??...

I believe that character from BTLC was just called Thunder.
There are a few gods named Raiden in various religions. I believe there was at some point a god of thunder named Raiden in Japanese mythology. He liked to eat children's navels, or at least that was the story to force kids to cover their navels with clothes.
Also, there was a European religion that had three gods named Raiden, each with a different second name, and they were a supreme trinity of gods.
Those are just the one's I've heard of, so there are probably tons more.

*Suddenly gets an image of Lambert ripping out some kids navel with his teeth and stumbles off laughing.*

Interesting theories.
I had always kind of assumed that there was a connection to the -element and the word . But Japanese mythology... could very well be. I heard that Reiko and Shinnok were drawn from Jap mythology as well.
Someone once mailed me (I used to have an MK site myself) that Liu Kang also has a meaning in Chinese but I forgot what it was.
