Has anyone played this version? I only heard of it today!
from unmamed.mame.net:
"A special version of the game that allowed network play over a broadband line specially installed at the arcade. There were also a few minor differences such as playable Noob Saibot. It never made it past playtesting in Chicago."
A quick google search found me this stuff:
"Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Play as Noob Saibot
This code only works on the WaveNet edition of the game.
To play as Noob Saibot, you must be playing against another human opponent. Pick Kano and, immediately before round 1 starts, hold Back + Low Punch + Low Kick + High Punch + Block. If done correctly, Kano should explode into Noob Saibot."
"PLAY THE WAVENET ULTIMATE MK 3:550-550"-mk trilogy code (n64 only?)
from loonygames.com:
"A few years back, Midway did a conversion of Mortal Kombat 3 for the arcade to run on their proprietary ethernet network WaveNet. And a fine job they did too. However, even on a dedicated network, the game was still laggy. I remember having a conversation with Ed Boon (one of the two creators of Mortal Kombat) at the time. This was just after Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate had been released in the arcades. He stated: âI didnât think anything would make me go back to playing standard Mortal Kombat 3 after Ultimate was released, but this network version has.â? High praise indeed for a networked version of a fighter. However, the game was still laggy, and without instant network response times, itâs hard to see how this can ever be so. I donât see many people installing fiber optic cables between their houses just so they can play a good game of Vicious Heart Rendering Killers every night...."
Anyhow, my real question is what moves did Noob have available in the Wavenet Arcade version. Did he have the same ones that were put in UMK3 SNES and Genesis and MKT, or were they different?

so where are the Wavenet machines now?
i assume there are only a handful of them, do you think it wouldbe possible to get ahold of one?

There really aren't any left that I know of, one person on this site claimed to have one but I don't think he really does, since he said he can access Wavenet features and he's not connected to another wavenet machine.
Moe30W just told me they recently added Wavenet to mame's listed of future mamed games.
