This might be a longshot here, but I've done some searching around the net looking for a fullsize standup UMK3 arcade and have come up with nothing. There are a few companies that are selling just MK3 but no UMK3. Does anyone here know of any places selling one?
Thanks.

When something better than UMK3 comes out, I'll let you all know, because it still hasn't happened yet.

Ebay always has them, but most of them are garbage. That one Kungbroken linked to is just a crappy looking converstion, it's not worth anywhere near 600 dollars. If you're willing to spend that much go for the dedicated cabinet even if it takes you a while to find it. If you don't care about the art and just want to play the game then just get a cheap generic cabinet and the pcb.

Also, if you find a MK3 in good condition for a reasonable price you may not want to pass it up. UMK3 is not really a seperate game, it's simply a ROM upgrade to MK3. You can get a UMK3 board on Ebay for about 50 dollars and just put that in.

Thank you very much guys, that is good information about the upgrade. I had no idea. So how would I be able to tell if an arcade is just a crappy conversion? Also, would buying a MK3 arcade from a (supposedly) reputable business like this one... http://www.arcadegamesusa.com/mortal%20kombat%203%20ultimate.htm ....and then buying the UMK3 upgrade be feasible, or is this arcade overpriced? Sorry, I'm new to the arcade thing, and would like to build up my gameroom in my house, but I don't want to get screwed and end up buying a crappy arcade, or a poorly done replica. Thanks.

$1999 for MK 3 is way too much. The only way I would even consider paying that much for the game is if it was flawless. Please keep in mind that photo is probably nothing like the machine you would get if you ordered from there. Ebay is your best bet. Are you looking to start your own arcade or do you want the game itself? I wouldn't mind letting my stand-ups go. Just remember though, shipping is a pain in the butt and can cost quite a bit depending on how far away you live from the seller.

If you can, find em local. Or make a deal with someone on Ebay!

I'll have to take some pictures of my machines and post them on here. Anyanka, did you happen to have photos of your stand ups?

I'll keep looking on ebay for now I suppose.

What I'm looking for is a standup UMK3 in great working condition, preferably an original, not a poorly done conversion.
I'm not trying to open my own arcade, I just want it for my house in my gameroom.

Ya, I figured shipping would suck. I'm in Arizona.

So how would I be able to tell if an arcade is just a crappy conversion?

Easy. A dedicated MK3 looks like this: http://images.webmagic.com/klov.com/images/M/cMortal_Kombat_3.jpg

"Dedicated" means it is the original cabinet that was made specifically for MK3. If you bought the game from Midway back in 1995 this is what you'd get. They look awesome! Sadly, they're pretty rare. It took me a long time to find mine and it'll probably take you forever too, but it's worth it. I consider mine to be the showcase piece of my collection.

A conversion is when an arcade owner would take an old cabinet, remove the old game and put in UMK3 and then maybe add a few pieces of art. See, with these arcade games it's extremely easy to switch games in and out. Almost as easy as changing a game in a Sega Genesis. It's just a matter of unplugging one board and plugging in another. So owners used to reuse old cabinets all the time. That's why you'll sometimes see stuff like MK3 in a MK II cabinet or even something like Tekken 3 in an old Street Fighter machine. The games themselves are just small curcuit boards, you can put them in just about any cabinet. Most of the UMK3s on Ebay are conversions. The gameplay is the same and they're cheaper and easier to find, so they're not completely bad but if you want the true game as a collector you should go for the dedicated.

The really cool thing about how easy to switch these games in is that if you get one MK machine you can play ALL the games. If you got a MK3 you'd be able to switch in MK II and play that in about 5 minutes and switching back to MK3 is just as easy. With one MK3 cabinet you could own and play them

I agree with Subby, that is way too much. A fair price would be around 500-800 depending on the condition and yes, shipping is insanely expensive. Check the phonebook for any operators(arcade owners) locally and see if they're selling anything. You can also look in the classified ads. I got my MK II locally from some guy that had it advertised in the newspaper.

Ebay is the best. You can even look within 250 miles of your location or whatever and just see what's local. I do it all the time. It can take a while to find what you're looking for but it'll eventually turn up.

It's cool that you're looking to get into the arcade hobby. Collecting is so much fun, it's really taken over console gaming for me. It can be expensive and hard to find games but nothing beats finally getting one you've been wanting for a long time. I started out with 1 game years ago and am now up to almost 20. I've basically got a museum of 90's arcade games. A lot better than Midway's Arcade Treasures......

No pics yet. I forgot all about that. This weekend I'm getting a new game(SF II Champion Edition!), so if I have time after rearranging and setting everything up I might take some.

Damn, thanks for the info Anyanka, that helps out a lot.

Hey SubZero, if you have an UMK3 arcade, would you be willing to sell it?

Also, heres another one I came across, any thoughts?

It's another conversion. I wouldn't pay very much for it but I guess it'd be ok if you're just looking to play the game and don't care about it being original.

If it doesn't look exactly like the one I posted then it's not the original and therefor not worth much money.

Something to keep in mind is that the other games are MUCH easier to find in dedicated cabinets. There's frequently MK II & MK4 cabinets for sale. MK4 has the run button so you'd easily be able to play MK3 on it. If you can't find MK3 and still want an original MK cabinet you could buy MK4 and the UMK3 board and you'd be set.

That second machine you came across......could you fit that through a doorway? Anyways, like Anyanka said, its another conversion. If you want to go the conversion route, look for a cabinet that is a midway cabinet. My Ultimate MK 3 arcade is a conversion from a MK II dedicated cabinet. I didn't mind it being a conversion because it looks so cool. (You know, it has Raiden on both sides channeling lightening)

About letting my machines go. It would have to be for the right amount and the right time.

Anyanka, great find on Street Fighter 2 champion Edition. I used to love Street Fighter Arcade. I wouldn't mind finding a Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo machine, or a Capcom vs SNK 2 one. Do you remember the size of Super Street Fighter II in the arcades in a dedicated cabinet? It was huge! I would love to have one of those.

Just about anything should fit through a standard door if you try hard enough. I've moved games a lot bigger than that UMK3. Its just a matter of finding the right angle.

I do remember the dedicated SSF2s. The big blue cabinets. Very cool looking, I'd like one too. I have the Super SF II Turbo kit I sometimes install in my capcom cabinet. Awesome game...but horribly frustrating AI.

I've been collecting for about 3 or 4 years now. MK3 is really cool looking. I used to have all 4 MKs in a row but decided to spread them out specifically so that you could see the side of MK3. It's just too awesome to be hidden between II and 4.

Bad Dudes arcade is a lot better than the NES one. You can play two player at the same time. Also, it's kind of hard to see but that's NBA Jam next to Lucky & Wild. I forgot to get a good pic of that.

The Sindel/Kahn side is wicked cool. I have to restoration stickers for a (can't think of the word even though it was mentioned throughout this thread when a older cabinet is used to host a new game), I was thinking about hanging the stickers on my wall, in my game room, of my house....that I hope to own someday l ol.

I wouldn't mind having a Crusin USA or Crusin World Arcade with the steering wheel and and all. That would just be great and of course, Super Turbo. I also wouldn't mind owning Street Fighter III Third Strike.

Remember those NES arcades where you put in a quarter and you got to play popular nintendo games for like three minutes? I wouldn't mind having one of those, for reasons unknown at this time.

While I was looking at the pictures, I had a friend over who is an old MK fan from way back, remembers the West Coast Video days, MK3 was next to a Capcom game, probably MSH, so you could never see that side, he said:

"Wow, I don't remember that being on the side of the machine." - shows the importance of box art.

I hate how the one side of my MK1 that's showing is all scratched up, yet the side facing KI2 is the one that looks perfect.

Anyone recognize the blue and red game next to Killer Instinct 2? I'd be surprised if anyone else has played it.

Damn, nice collection.

I'm going to keep looking and take my time to try and find a good one. If I have any more questions I'll make sure to ask. I think this week I'm going to search local arcades to see if I there is one I can make an offer on assuming they would be willing to sell it.
Thanks for the help guys.

Ahh Survival Arts. The only thing I remember is Tasha, the female ninja that was member of a group called Cobra because she reminded me of scarlet from GI Joe.
