Was MK4 a Failure???

No, sir! It was not! MK4 is DEFINITELY ONE OF MY FAVORITES! I loved everything about it... arcade wise. I hate the home ports, though. I have been waiting YEARS for them to release it on a Midaway's Arcade Treasures or SOMETHING in it's arcade form!

I'll add this, I loved mk4 but..gold was much better in term's of charactors (yeah sure some fatalities were overlaped but ya know..)
Utter failure.
Outdated graph. engine what could only manage paralax shading to a degree,
the removal of personal combos, essentially everyone was the same aside from special moves,
Uninspired characters (Tanya, Jarek, Reiko, Shinnok) with stupid voiceovers.
Reused fatalities with zero creativity and really suspended disbelief,
Absolutely broken gameplay which was patched by a Maximum Damage killswitch, which again did little and could be easily circumvented,
Ugly ass design. No discernable cultural background to any artistic motiffs in Whatthehellland.
And the godawful cutscenes, Mother of Mercy the cutscenes....
This game deserves to be sent to hell and worse.

Of course it wasn't a failure! Hell, it's the best MK game!
The fight moves are cool, the special moves are sweet, the endings are great, and the kharacters? Too damn awesome.
It's a really fun game, though I would like to see how cool MK:Gold is(A remake of MK4 but with more kharacters and levels).
So, no, MK4 was not a failure!

The story was cool, and especially understandable if you've played Mythologies. The cast was cool, the pace, the music, the innovation of it all...
But visually, yeah, it was the cheesiest "looking" MK of all time. (not including Special Forces)

failure might be a bit harsh but i didnt like it.
the bad
every one had the same button link combos
the weapon system was gimmicky
like all the 3D MKs, the character builds were ugly
the grapples were lame
the good
in the air combo system
of course this all just my opinion

I think MK4 was amazing. It was perfect and great. LOVED IT. Want the arcade version, though.

I think the gameplay was great, the best of the 3D Mortal Kombat games. I think they went ahead with the switch from actors to animated a bit too early though, they probably should have waited until the next game when they came out with more advanced stuff since MK was known for being realistic (As far as looks) The story to me was totally forgetable. In fact I probably wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for celebration Station and the internet. Nit to mention some of it didn't make sense. But gameplay is probably the most important thing and they delivered.

The only MK game that was a failure, was indeed Special Forces. I agree there.
But was MK4 a failure, I don't think so. This is what started the 3D style of fighting in MK. And since 3D didn't have good technological advances back then, (unlike today), it actually was a giant step forward into video gaming altogether. It pretty much set the bar for other video games to actually try and push the boundaries of 3D.

I really like MK4. Glad to see other people enjoyed it. I liked the atmosphere, the fatalities were really good, the fighting mechanics were fun, and I enjoyed the roster as a whole. I love Tanya, especially in this game!!
I loved this game! It was fast and some of the newer Fatalities were pretty neat and some also had that dark humor. My wife and I are avid MK fans and she loves Quan Chi's Fatality where he beats you with your own leg, and so do I but I also love Reiko's Kick Fatality. The speed of the game made it by far the most fun to me in the entire series. Funny thing is, it is also the one out of the entire series that I am the best at. Undefeatable in my area pretty much.
