Yeah, MK3 was on PSX as well. I don't know if it was released before or after the other versions though.

Also, there was a lot of mention of MK2 for PSX in Japan. Gamefaqs has a release date for it and apparently the Jap PSX Rom of it is floating around the net, however I haven't seen any of that stuff personally so don't know how true it is. Acclaim's Japanese page doesn't mention it, it only has MK1 and MK2 for Gameboy on its list.

MK3 was released for the PSX. One of it's first games.

MK2 was proposed and a beta got leaked, but was never officially released.

Wow... something really strange just happened. I've got two browsers open... one of them on this message board, the other one I'm using to search the net for MK information. Well, just as I was reading this post about MK2 being slated for release in Japan, I ran across a Japanese web page on the MK2 PSX release...! Unti now, I'd never seen anything on the Japanese MK2 release.. I heard a rumor about it, but... :::Twilight Zone theme music::: Strange coincidence, huh?

Mk2 on PSX was about the same sucker as the Saturn-Version !! Shitty PC-Wavetable-music like the PC-version/Shang Morphs caused an asslick-slowdown, and -err it was simply SHITTY!
Why wasn't there any good arcade port on 32bitCD-Consoles with CD-audioMusic ????

Hell No - got myself a Saturn-Console -just because I gathered that game for 5 bucks somewhere coz I thought it was THE ultimate arcade port! But no they simply couldn't manage to release a GOOD arcade port on a Saturn or PSX...

MK3 was released about two weeks before the 16-bit versions were released. It was in September or October, not TOO sure

It was an awesome game except Shang Tsung's morphs sucked.

I was really disappointed there was no Smoke code (no internet at this time), cuz that was my favorite part of the arcade version...
Until around Thanksgiving I got a magazine that had a code to use Smoke, I was so freaking happy

I don't know if it ever was or wasn't officially released in Japan; but, someone here actually saw it for auction on eBay and won it for like $250.

It had a real jewel case, was really an actual PS-X disc and not a burn. I just don't know if it was available to the average person in Japan or not, but it was made.

I got MK2 for my PSX and it's really similar to its Arcade version.

I've also seen UMK3 for PSX but I think it's really pirate.
MK3 is official, heh.
I also got MK:SF, MK4, MKTrilogy and MKMythologies: Sub-Zero.

1)Mortal Kombat 3. I read somewhere you can still get it for 10-20 dollars at Funcoland.
2)Mortal Kombat Trilogy. You can still find this over by the PlayStation area at Circuit City.
3)Mortal Kombat 4. They still sell these at EB Games. Though if you have the money and the Dreamcast, I strongly suggest you get Mortal Kombat Gold. A lot better,I hear. I would've got mine the day I got MK4, but they didn't have it and I wanted a new MK game.

I have MK2 MK3, and MKT for PSX, the MK2 is an ISO a friend sent me that I cannot get to work. MK3 freezes when the first match starts.

I remember playing MK3 at the Wiz for PSX, it was a demo CD and only two characters were playable. I beat some guy who was playing and he left.

MK2 on PSX is slightly enhanced to the Saturn version.
The sfx are crispy clear- far more crisp than the arcade (and don't argue with me, you can't compare chips to a CD quality).
I preffer Saturn because PSX's reminds me of Sega 32X Mortal Kombat II.

But sticking to US releases, the PSX versions were
MK3
MK4
MK Special Forces
MK Trilogy
MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero

I highly reccomend Trilogy for PSX. All the other games smell like garbage.

Thanks to MKJohn, I finally got my hands on a copy of MK3 (for the Bible). He sent it to me so that I could copy it until I got around to buying it somewhere. But I was unsuccessful. The first copy did what you described. It would just freeze at "FIGHT!". The second copy actually ran, but the endings wouldn't show up at all. I just gave up after that. John just ended up giving it to me (thanks John!). ;D
