Think about it. they could use the same techneques they used for the originals, but now there 100 times beter. Also the fighting would be more fluent and fast. Plus they could put new characters in 2d, such as kenshi.
cool idea: yes/no

I agree takermk mk 2-d is mk.MK 3-d is bland i hate to say it but its not as fun as 2-d i rather have actors playing the fighters in the game. Its more realistic every fighting game now is 3-d i wish mk never made the transition into 3-d.2-d was much better.

I'd be up for it, as long as they do't use digitized actors.
A 2D MK using high res, hand drawn sprites like Guilty Gear XX, Garou or SFIII would be awesome.

I would like that too.
The 2D MKs were kool.
I would just like for them to fix all the attacks so they are really useful, like the crouching low punch or kick, the low kick.
make them as useful as the high kick.
I'd like an expanded combo system with every character having their own original combos.
A parry like in STF3 would be cool, and maybe some kind of combo breaker.
They need to fix the AI too.
There is a ton of stuff they could add to a 2D MK to make it really stand out and not be a rehash.
If they made an MK like that, I'd buy it no doubt.

All I want is a good freakin game, I would like to see digitally captured fighters, but it just isn't going to happen ever again. I would settle for 3D rendered characters that look like real people, maybe even look like MKDA/D. Generate really amazing 3D background, and put the 3D characters in a 2D environment.
There was something very similar to this, minus the amazing parts, it was called MK4. If they could somehow avoid the atrocity that was MK4, and make it good, I think that would suffice, but they really look at from this perspective:
What point is there in generating 3D characters and putting them in a 2D fighting environment? It would merely be fan servicing a small insignificant group of fans. There is NOT a high enough percentage of fans out there who want to see a 2D MK game again. I will love it, something as fluid if not moreso than SF3 3rd Strike, this could be done easily with 3D generated characters, using a 3D engine playing on a 2D environment. I wouldn't want to see something like MK4 though, with the room sort of spinning around you, crappily I might add, I would just want it to be dead set 2D in appearance. UMK3 had a supreme fighting engine, perhaps use that as a base, and make it better, make the game darker, like MKII, don't go hugely overboard on characters, just keep the ones that matter, maybe introduce a few more.
Keep whatever Ninjas that would make the cut looking different like in MKDA of course for a main costume, but have the option for old school costumes that all look the same, or just, have every single button on the controller pick a different outfit, if you're Scorpion you'd have the choice of playing as MK1, 2, Ultimate, 4 (Which is almost identical to UMK3 except I think they added a skull on his belt) and MKDA, and maybe add some more. This is not that difficult really, it's all CGI, it's the laziness that holds it back.

Why not? Certainly the tecnology is there...hell, who knows what the future holds 3D digitized actors!? Its not an impossibility. IMO aside from the blood and fatalities, Digitized actors were a major factor in setting MK apart from common cartoon games IE SF KOF Samurai showdown Tekken ect ect. Thats the kind of realism i appreciated in MK.

It's just easier and higher quality to 3D render man. And they have to pay animators, not actors, who probably run cheaper, and they own the rights to the charaters' likenesses off the bat and no legal disputes. The only thing now is, Midway is going to have to worry about being sued by GI Joe on gimmick infringement.
