Okay lets lay down the three ground rules first:

1. If you say its a lightsaber, I will smack the stupid right out of yafurious
2. Give me an explanation of what it is.
3. Finally, what is its construction and its functions.

Okay, now that is done let me give you the rundown; okay if you recall Cyrax had a pulse blade in MK Deadly Alliance, I asked many people what it was and a lot of people said two things: I don't know what it is and its a lightsaber. Well those are wrong, because I know for a fact that it is not a lightsaber because it can be blocked by a sword and has much different design than a lightsaber from Star Wars . . . so that leads me enough right to open the debate topic of the Pulse Blade;

Begin Debating!grin

It's a lightsaber.

Sorry but you were asking for it. I don't understand why it CAN'T be a lightsaber, though I have no idea what you are talking about, other people have swords and they can be blocked. So does that mean they aren't really swords? Shouldn't they just cut through their arms?
Pulse is for energy and blade wouldbe some kind of slicing weapon. That vaguely is the same thing as a lightsaber (boy I thought I would never talk about star wars). They both have the same impossible concepts.

It's a lightsaber but Midway doesn't wanna get sued by George Lucas so they called it something else.grin

Unfortunately for you, a 'lightsaber' is about as close as you'll come to a legitimate answer about this. It's basically a solid energy-based saber, nothing more or less. And, in traditional Japanese anime and games, they don't ALWAYS slice through enemies effortlessly. Take the Beam Sabers of Gundam or Mega Man X, for example: the blades have heft, weight, and can face resitance in particuarly strong materials. Think a condensed laser beam: I'm thinking these sabers use the heat from their energy blades to slice through stuff, and if they encounter a material with a high melting point, there's bound to have SOME resistance. And. since the energy has to be highly condensed to form a sword blade, it would have that pseudo-mass to experience that resistane with.
it is like a lightsaber but MK stylegrin
Cyrax's Pulseblade in DA looked like a crystal spike. Pulseblades are some form of Energy sword or Beam Sabre(for us Gundam fans).

All energy swords seem to get called "Lightsabres" or are alleged rip-offs of them. I don't care what they're called, they're cool, and that's that.

Yeah, but a lightsaber from Star Wars would not be able to be blocked by a regular sword . . . so they are a type of BEAM SWORDS not a lightsaber. Beam Swords as said before are condensed energy and do not generate heat, therfore they cannot cut metal, but they can impale, slice, and cut your opponent.

My bet is that Cyrax just uses one of those flashlights with the colourful plastic things to make it look like a lightsaber.

Not true. Otherwise, the Beam Swords used in Gundam wouldn't be able to slice through armies of METAL Moble Suits. Heck, Epyon used a beam saber and a HEAT ROD whip to slice through Moble Suits, and if a Heat Rod can cut through the Suits (a Heat Rod, if you didn't know, is a long segment of metal that can be super-heated), then that seems to indicate that the Beam Saber slices through objects with heat, as well (in fact, the beam is made of plasma that eats away at the offending metal, plasma being superheated gas/particles). What prevents the sword from effortlessly slicing though everything is the resistance that substance has to the superheated plasma/metal.

You may be thinking of the Wikipedia article about the pulse blade, but that thing is really inaccurate, and is stated to be powered by the Elder Gods. If that were true, then why are the Cyberninjas the only characters to get them? That contradicts the 'Elder God weapon' theory, since why would a soulless assassin robot hold exclusivity to a weapon powered by the Gods? If anything, it proves that the weapons were entirely man-made, not created by a God.

Yeah, but what about a regular sword blocking a pulse blade SynjoDeonecros?

Okay, I found out what a pulse blade is:

I typed in pulse blade on a search engine and I went to this website, NOT WIKIPEDIA, and found out that a pulse blade is a sword blade that can be attached to any handle, a cylinder handle, most common. The handle contains the energy which lights up the beam with a neon color when activated. It is mostly unlimited in power. It can be sheathed in a sheath. The energy becomes concentrated on the metal blade. The energy from the blade helps to slice opponents and the blades sharpness does as well (this is what does the most slicing). When the blade comes in contact with something, a electrical energy surge is put to the object it comes in contact with, stunning the object. That is why it is called a "pulse" blade.

That is what a Pulse Blade really iswink

The blade is steel, and the handle is chromewink

i always figured it was a normal sword but the base handle charged the blade with energy to give it enhanced cutting power and neon glow. since you really can't just stop light in its tracks the way a real life lightsaber is made would be near immpossiable.

that why i think a oulse blade is just an energized sword.

You're right.

The blade can be made of anything that is strong enough for impact (if it is built right) it is mostly made out of diamond or steel, giving it a crystal spike look to it like someone said earlier, and the handle contains energy crystals. The energy crystals energize the sword blade giving it more energy, thus giving it more cutting power and a neon glow. It can be blocked by a regular sword, though, giving it a ting sound. The energy crystals also give a volt of electricity, or "pulse" to the object it comes in contact with. When it comes in contact with another weapon though, it only gives a severe vibration, because the energy is not as conductant as regular electricity, that is called pulse. It can be turned on and off, and sheathed.

It is pretty much an energized sword like you said. It is unlimited in energy. It is almost like a vibro blade, if you know what that is. The blade vibrates giving it extreme cutting power, but the pulse blade works a little different you see. The handle is almost resistant to any attack. It is made of chrome and is very durable and versatile. Kung Lao's hat would be one of the best things to cut the handle with. A regular sword or weapon would work as well.

That is what a Pulse Blade is in detail technical aspect. wink
