Well, I mean what nationality is he? In MK1 it says
he was adopted by an American woman in Tokyo,
and he deported from Japan.
In the movie he sounds like another British baddie,
but he is played by an Australian.
What the F**k is he!??!!!

My theory is that "Kano" comes from Kano, Austrailia. Most likley not his real name, but "Kano" was probably a nickname given to him by the black dragon since that's the name city he most likley hails from.
My thoery makes sense. There is a city in Austrailia named Kano and he does have that accent.

thanx man, that makes sense.
Brits and Aussies can sound similar though. He
seemed quite British in the movie, but I'll go with
your theory

As we all know, he was a Japanese-born American. But Boon & co. apparently liked his portrayal in the movie so much that they retconned that, and made him Austrailian. So I suppose Kano comes from Kano.
Does this mean there's some buff guy walking around in the BD named "Sydney?"

Trevor Goddard was actually british according to the IMDB:
"While Goddard's official biography listed his place of birth as Perth, Australia, and the year as either 1966 or 1965, his parents, Eric and Clara Goddard, of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, in July of 2003 came forward to state that Trevor, like his brothers Travis and Daniel, was in fact born in Sussex, England, his date of birth was in 1962, and that Trevor's claims to being a reformed criminal from Australia were in a fact a fabrication. He was able to fool many into believing his London accent was an Australian one, and edged out many authentic Australian actors for roles."
I always thought Kano had a cockney accent in Mortal Kombat (think Spike from Buffy but not as toned down) and based on that, I'm possibly right.
