Shang Tsung is my pick. Who are yours?

In my opinion, Kitana and Mileena.

Baraka, they could have done a whole game on him, his people, his raids on the earth Realm to provoke Liu Kang's entrance into Outworld, his affairs with Mileena. He seemed to have the most interesting story and the story that could stand on its own, without many MK ties.

Sub-Zero

Cyrax: he started as evil-ish/neutral in MK3, he became a good guy in MK:G, and Jade's desert was worked into his plot & ending. In MK:DA he was connected to more characters than any otehr fighter. He's connected to the Lin Kuei (therefore Sektor, Smoke, Sub-Zero & Classic Sub-Zero, Frost, and Sareena). He's a member of the Special Forces (Sonya, Jax, Kenshi, Hsu Hao...and therefore is enemies with Kano, Jerek, and Kabal (Black Dragon Members)) He's a good guy which automatically makes him connected to Raiden. He's connected to Nitara (because he worked for her in MK:DA) and worked along side Reptile (who also worked for her). He is connected to so many people, possibly more; his storyline is obviously a bit VITAL!

Chameleon... wait, he doesn't have a story. Nevermind.
They should do something with my idea of Rain being Raiden's illegitimate son. RAI(DE)N + similar powers...

Sub-Zero, I guess. I think it's cool how far he's gone.
But my favorite story overall is not for one specific character. It's Kahn's invasion of Earth in MK 3. I thought it was awesome that the villain actually did what he wanted to do. He took over Earth. Even though it ended up being reversed. It's rare that a villain ACTUALLY takes over the world. In MK and MK II we had the threat that it would happen. In MK3 it DID happen.
The whole idea of Kahn taking over and there being like 8 humans left on Earth is very fascinating. Post-apocalyptic chicago is the best setting in MK!

I agree 100%. People say the 'feel' of MK2 was great cus it felt dark, which it did very well. BUT I felt that the 'feel' of MK3 was soooooooo cool. Like u said, there's like 8 humans left, trying to save the world. The stages were empty and desolate, Raiden's message at the start was so bleak
That is why, imo, MK3 had the best setting.
Too bad they didn't stick with the 'helicopter crashed in the bank' concept seen in DA's krypt. That woulda been very cool...
I love the feel to Mortal Kombat 3. I could picture standing in one of the streets as I see corpses scattered across the floor and blood stains all over the building walls. The sky was a twirl of black and orange and thunder bolts boomed across the sky. I can't imagine being one of those 8 people left alive to fight against in entire army. What would you do if you were put in that situation?
Yeah, that was awesome. A lot of the backgrounds in MK3 looked cooler in concept than in reality, and that's not saying a lot since I like how they are in the game too.
One thing I really liked about MK and MK 3's stages were that they were connected. The events in the story all felt like they were happening around the same area. Like if you look at the side of The Palace Gates, The Pit and Warrior Shrine it looks like they may all be next to each other. Then in MK3 there's Kahn's tower with the red portal over it in a bunch of the stages, and of course the stages were you can be uppercutted into another.
With some of the other games, especially MK4, MKDA and MKD there's no coherent setting. There's some stages on Earth, some in Outworld, some in Edenia, some in Netherrealm....it's just completely random without any regard to the story. There is no logical reason for Kitana to face Reptile at the Wu Shi Academy in MKDA's story. Yet that kind of thing happens every time you play.
