Who here didnt grow up on arcade MK?
Who here didnt grow up on arcade MK?
I remember long ago when MK was in the movie theaters and arcades, but growing up I never really played them. I always played MK on stuff like the genesis and super nes. I remember the first time i played Ultimate MK3 was on a Sega Saturn. It hasn't been until the last year or so that I have played MK on arcade version, and that has mainly been on MAME.

There isnt anything wrong with that, I dont have a lot of arcade experience either. I remember the first time i saw mk2, i was at a party store in detroit and all of these guys are sitting here playing the game at a extreme level. It was pretty intense, and entertaining consideringt they knew everything including fatalities which was a big thing at the time. I started playing on mame not too long ago.

Does anyone know any arcades with MK games in it. I only know two.

Same here. I played them all on my Sega genisis until I went on vacation in San Francisco. I walked into an arcade and saw the first MK game. Then of course, I played it nonstop.

Yeah, my recollections of MK didnt start in the arcade either. I started playin my genesis, then moved and began playing SNES. MY first arcade MK was MK3 i believe.

I understand what you are saying about not being able to emulate the feel.
I feel the same way with SNES and NES games playing the real thing is much different then emulating it. The only memory i have of MK in the arcades is going on vacation and playing UMK3 at a Pizza Hut.

I seriously feel sorry for all the MK fans that didn't experience that. Mame is not the same. You can't emulate that atmosphere. Even actually owning the arcade machines isn't the same.

Exactly. There was just something really fun about arcades in general, and then when you got games that drew a crowd and you were constantly playing different people, and you were putting your quarters up, talking about the game and stinking of cigarettes afterwards. Nothing'll ever replace that.
Yeah, it does kind of suck that all I had was the Genesis versions to play. But I was too young, and my parents wouldn't let me play them that much. I remember seeing a MK3 machine back in 1995/96 (can't remember), and I wanted to play it. I was only 7 or 8, so my parents forced me to play The Simpsons with my brothers, which isn't that bad of a game, but I would of much prefered to play MK3. The funny thing about my brothers and I owning the Genesis versions is that my parents didn't know we had them, lol.

The arcade days were great. Going to the arcade with your friends and playing Mortal Kombat, then some random dude walks up and wants to fight, and you beat the crap out of him. It was great. You could get crowds going around you, and hearing all of the people dissing the loser. That was always funny. It was just a great experience, but unnfortuanitly, it's gone.

I was to young to play any arcades back in the day, but when i turned 11 I played umk3 in the arcades ever since.... but when i turned 16 they sold the machines away that where once in the mall. During my arcade sessions all I can really say is.... it's way of a heck better then owning a machine or running mame, here is why in my OWN opionion.
(Back In the Days, known as "GOOD TIMES")
1. Crowded if skills where involved, random people inserting quarters while you play wthout asking.
2. The arcade speakers, I loved that particular sound when you did a combo.
3. Smelly people, damn I remember some sweaty dude that played me smelled like he banned showering in his religion.
I didn't like them because they stunk, right after I gave them a whoop to there butt, inside my head I said "Good Game StinkFucer :P" No offense, just that some people really smell bad maybe it's something you can get used too.
4. Last but not least, standing up! these days I sit my butt down just to play some UMK3.. in kaillera netplay,, I mean,,, hours and loads of hours, but since the increase of odor on my chair...
my butt don't swing that way buddy! There is a brand new umk3 arcade machine at a Liquor store around my place, for 50cents? The games will come... It has begun!
P.S I shower, so don't flame me.

I have fond memories of going to the arcades to play Mortal Kombat, 2, 3 and Ultimate. Like many people have said already, there is just something about generating a crowd that makes it fun. It is always a great feeling to know that people watch you play in awe. Not saying I was the greatest or anything but when I did pull off a three in a row winning streak, I felt pretty good.
When Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance came out, and the Arcade scene was to be no more, a friend and I got the idea of buying the arcade stand-ups. My friend bought Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2 while I got Mortal Kombat 1/2(combo in MK 1 cabinet) and UMK3. As someone stated on this board in an earlier post, it is hard to replicate the feeling of the arcade. Sure owning the machine is great but I find myself looking over my shoulder with hopes that someone is behind me. I keep the games in the garage, and I always lift the door when I play. I guess I want someone to hear me on the street and say "hey, what do you have there".
Right now, I still play the UMK 3 standup heavily while MK and MK 2 just collect the dust in the garage. I'll be willing to sell both. PM me if you are interested. I am in Houston, TX. And I'll let go of UMK3 too. Nothings holding them down, just need a buyer.

Hahah, yeah, I know the feeling. I have a lot of machines in my house and sometimes I'll have friends over and we'll turn them all on at once and just kinda bask in the old school arcade atmosphere.

Anyanka, you have an actual arcade in your home? Thats awesome. I am assuming you have the MK games? But what others do you have if I may ask? Are you a collector?
