No, it only auto-picks Sub-Zero for the basic Konquest. After that, you get to choose character by character for each individual Konquest.

Well to introduce the konquest and to absolve the intro u have to got a character and midway couldnt let u just choose a character that u like bc each one got other moves and specials. Some tasks wont fit anymore to the moves so u wouldnt be able to finish the konquest!
