Why do you like Mortal Kombat?

posted04/21/2006 12:15 AM (UTC)byMortal Kombat is a great game. Yes, it's fun to play. I know, it was one of the most realistic fighting game in history.
Wha? But why do you like Mortal Kombat? Shouldn't you have like Aero Fighters instead? They jump high and body slam. Isn't that kewl??
For me, seeing a life-like videogame in my life as a child was just so amazing. I was so interested in playing this life-like game and so, grew up with it. Today, I'm still in the past playing MK. I think this is one of the best things in this generation.

To me, there is no better game than MK II, which is why I still play MK. I try to get into the other MKs, play them for a long time, but always go back to MK II. I always wanted my own arcade cabinet of it, since none of the home versions were even decent. Thanks MAME.

It is different, and still solid. Most games that try to be different tend to suck. A lot of the fighting game community dismissed MK after II and assume it follows the trend. They couldn't be more wrong.

I was sucked into MK2 because it looked and sounded so cool. It had great characters and a fantastic story. But, that didn't last a very long time because the gameplay is so-so.
I didn't turn hardcore with MK until Mortal Kombat 3 came out. As MK2KB said, it was different from other fighters but was still good. I would go so far as to say 99% of the non-MK 2D fighters I have played have been either Capcom style or SNK style. Not all were made by Capcom and SNK, but all resembled one or the other with little or no variation.
I would say, now that I have a good understanding of UMK3 gameplay that there are specific characteristics of MK that make me a big fan.
1. Run button.
2. Block button (this includes the blocking while stunned state)
3. Move disabling.
4. Instantaneous state changes.
5. Damage protection.

my love with mk stated when i was 3 ish 4. i went to the video store and saw mk. i wanted to play it and brought it home and was amazed with what i saw. a realistic game that had blood. i played it with my older sister and was kicking her ass and got good and beat the game. the fatalties were what were cool and how the levels looked.
my sisters friend got mk2 and when i started playing that when i was 4 or 5 i was addicted to it. it was bigger and better. the fatalties were more grusome and my favs were there like liu and sub but i fell in love with kung lao. i actually was good enough to beat kahn and felt great also seeing the pit 2 fatalty made m,e just say wooah!!! that literally was probaly the coolest thing ive ever seen at that point. (by the way this is for sega genesis)
a unrelated story to the topic but goes with mk2. i just got done playing mk2 and i was lost to scorpion and he did a a toasty to me. i was acting like i was sub fighting scorpion and i did a hiii-yaa kick and i bit my tongue but when i bit it i bit so hard i bit a hole through it. a huge hole. i looked so damn goofy. thought it was pretty kool.
at christmas time when i was 5 i got mk3. the run and kombos just blew me away and what you could do know. the fataltys did not impress me but the fighting really did. umk3 i got to long after and that was so much better, the more chracters the story i understood and the combos and levels were terific.
when i was 7 mk4 came out and it sucked. the chracters sucked. the story and endings were the only good thing and the new look for reptile. the fighting engine totally blew and i was not impressd. but none the less i played it because im a gigant mk fan.
mkda i got for christmas i got for christmas in 2002 and was hooked. the new engine was impressive but defently need a ovberhaul but the levels chracters were great. konquest was a good tutorial and explainer. the story was a impressive sight for me and made mk more in depth. loved it. the one fatalty thing got me down and all theose krypt items were a pain in the ass. when i saw the intro i was blown away. i was pissed tho that liu was dead. i was like what the fuck?!?
mkd came out and got it for my 15th b-day in october. this was a huge overhaul for mk. mkd topped mkda by far for me. the krypt was smaller but better. the chess game is fun and i love playing it. puzzle i really do not like but fun to play with my friends. konquest was fun for the first 3 times but know i see the flaws and it can be revamped. shujinko is totally unlikeable and is annoying. liu should be there instead of him. the new chracters were outstanding. hotaru havik and returning classics were great. the story was better and onaga was good but not a great impressive boss. he has potenial. the return of stage fatlties and 2 of them and hara-kiras is great. loved it. everything about mkd was great except puzzle, a little konquest tune up, and onaga. the game is a classic. the fighting engine is a little bit improved but seriously needs a remake.i wont get into it because its not a deception forum.
i fell in love with mk because it was so much fun and still is today. the fighting, story, levels, and chractewrs are great and will be loved always. mk3, umk3 is the pinacle for me until mkd came out. there both pinacles for mk

The appearance of each character and the game setup, I like characters with "special" powers and finishing moves, and the fact that before MK4 it had no enormous character no one ever picked, unlike other fighting games. MK was pretty original in its own sense.
It also took more than just button slapping to be good at the game (which is why I hate what it has become IE: Tekken / Soulblade). Before that it literally took a little bit of skill to play the game.

Well
- the story, always good
- characters the old of course, and every new version has new characters
- backgrounds, new all the times
- every new game, bring something new:
- MK - fatalities
- MK2 - Multiple fatalities, pits.
- MK3 - combos, animalities, mercy, brutalities (MKT)
- MK4 - weapons, breakers, better combo system
- MK5 - multiple styles of fight
- MK6 - death traps, hara kiri, puzzle, chess, konquest, gory fatalities.
I think that resume, why I like MK

To me the MK serie is the Batman of fighting games...
MK have a lot of special moves, it is very dark with great characters and a good storyline.
While Street Fighter and Tekken are more like the 'supermen' of fighting games, a lot more brighter, better in many aspect , the competitive video game fan will always say that Tekken>MK
However people in general prefer MK because it is more then just a fighting game, just like Batman is more then a super hero

I just grew up with MK, thats a good enough reason right? Staying up with my cousin and playing MK1 MKII at our grandparents house on the Sega Genesis was awesome. MK3 came along and blew me away with the graphics, the characters and the fatalities (To this day, I still love that Sub-Zero over the head shatter)
The story was great and just everything about it sucked me in. I love MK and playing it and I love the story, but even though I liked Deception, I didn't like the undertesting and many glitches and sham that was online play. I sincerely hope they do MUCH better next time with the testing, tighten up the engine and make it seemless and not as jerky. They could also do away with the dial-a-combos, have throw counters and a wakeup (oki) game. But even if they don't fix any of this stuff (except the big glitches), it's MK for life.

What do you mean why do I like mortal kombat? I like it because its the most awesome game in gaming history.!!!!!!
All hail mortal kombat!!!!!

scorpion is cool and all, but he wasn't that cool until the ultimate 3rd one cuz that's when his face changed to skull like and his winning stance went to reaching up instead of just the hands on the shoulders or his arm in the air (on the first one). But his combo where he whips out the axe for a second is what's really cool. Is that why you like scorpion or are you into the story line and stuff?

I like mortal kombat because after you kill your opponent and they are laying on the ground you can wait a while and then walk up and bump them back up again and keep going.
Oh wait, that's not MK...

I grew up with Mortal Kombat, also. Other than that, there are 10 reasons why Mortal Kombat is awesome.
1) Variety of cool characters
2) Cool special abilities
3) Fatalities, Stage Fatalities, Animalities, ect.
4) Interesting storylines
5) Music to kill to
6) It's ability to survive the test of time
7) Awesome settings
8) The adrenelin rush
9) The anarchy
10) All of the above times 20

Why do i like mortal kombat? Well i love the blood factor. Plus, i love the fact of it being a fighting game that is not a japanese translation. That means no chesey talking of chesey graphics where sparks fly out when u hit people. I also love the characters. I have been playn mortal kombat sence i was 5 years old.
I love it because I grew up playing it and loved it ever since I was a little boy! I was one of those kids who shouldn't have been playing it but did anyways even when my mother told me not to along with being punished at the same time lol, sry Mama.

I think the main reason i enjoy MK so much is the fact that, well first and foremost, i was only about 4, and had nothing else to do. Second, is because it was more than challenging. It wasnt an RPG because there were no missions, quests, etc. It was simply 2D fighting. The other thing is that you didnt just have to play against the AI. You could kick someones ass at it, or get your ass kicked. The final thing is that MK was my first videogame experience. My brother had purchased a Sega Genesis and had MKII. Thats were my obsession with Kung Lao started. MKII is the best, but MK3 and MK1 cant be denied, especially MK1 because it put Mortal Kombat on the map. Well i ran out of breath.

I like Mortal Kombat because of the awsome sound FX from the game and from the movies, another reason would be that the games are pretty easy to learn and non-confusing if you know what I mean.

0
I like it because It's a smart idea for a series of games. the emporor of another realm tries to invade our realm, so the elderGods make a tournament.

It's off the hook
