And don't give this stuff about "They saw how shitty MKDA was so they didnt buy MKD"

That is the stupidest most lamest thing to say. It is called flaming too.

So anyways, for the rest of us, why do you think that is???

I say because MKDA had better music, crissper graphics, better characters, and no combo breakers!!!!

What say you??? Edit: some facts: MKDA sold 2.2 million copies at least, and I think MKD sold 1 million copies at least....

MKDA was like "Whoa, a new MK game!" So people got it. MKD came out after the whole "New MK!" vibe was going around, so less people got it.

That's my guess.

MKDA had better music?? I'm actually going to disagree with that. The only songs I really liked the most are Shang Tsung's palace and the Lava Shrine. MKD had much better music imo as well as a better ambience. MKDA's lighting effects were better and had great characters like Shang Tsung, Nitara, and some others. I liked some of the MKD newcomers like Havik and they improved on characters like Li Mei and Bo' Rai Cho, imo.

MKD was more broken than MKDA but at least excluding Bo' Rai Cho and Dairou, more characters were able to compete with one another unlike in MKDA where characters like Cyrax are weak as fuck while characters like Scorpion are too damn cheap.

I agree with both these people.

But I also agree with people not liking MKDA, so they just didn't get MKD.

Because there was a big gap in between MK4 and MKDA . . . so fans were eager to see the new generation home system MK games. As for MKGold, it was only for DreamCast, and not everyone had a DreamCast.grin

1. MK: DA was the first new MK game in years.

2. MK: D came out too soon after MK:DA for some gamers who don't or can't spend alot of time playing games. Many have yet to open all the coffins of the first game yet and figure why buy the sequel when they haven't even finished playing the first *blush*. As much as I like the idea of a MK game a year, I wouldn't mind one every two years instead. MK isn't the only game I play and I do have a full time job and other interests. Note: I did buy MK: D just don't play it much.

3. Some people may have been disappointed by how the story is going or the 'darkness' of the MK:D game. How much in common does MK:D have with the older games? Not much. MK:DA at least had most of the original characters and kept their stories pretty much straight. Whereas MK: D...*shrug*

4. I know a few actually liked the 'korny' humor of the MK series (myself included). This humor seem to be lacking in the actual gameplay of the MK:D game or at least the fight portion of it.

4. MK: DA had an all new look for the MK series where as MK: D was just the same with a few costume changes. Also, I kinda prefer the look of MK:DA over MK:D.

5. The 'Deathtraps' may have scared off a few buyers who might have thought they would have made gameplay too complex. I myself found many of the deathtraps lacking. Either they were too easy (Nexus) or it seem that some locations were made just for the deathtrap (balancing act one) instead for the story.

Do I really need to go on....

Well in my opinin the main reasons why MKDA sold more the MKD were (I think theyve probably been covered but I'll post anyway):

1. And Mk5 was eagerly anticipated.

2. MKDA was completely new 9the three styles, proper 3D etc) so it had a wow factor.

3. The roster was much more varied and far superioir in MK, and appealed to more people than MKDs did, IMO.

4. MKDA gots loads of hype. The return of one of the great baddies (Shang Tsung) with a revamp and good story, appealed because of lackluster bosses in MKT/MK4.

5. MKDA had its problems, and when people found out it was gonna use the same 3 style system, the fact MKDA was broken, meant people were less entusiastic about it. And when it arrived, it didnt deliver the goods.

6. I also think the fact that Konquest was a must to unlock characters, costumes etc put a lot of people off. lus MKD's main story wasnt as good as MKDAs.

7. Addition let downs in MKD included Noob-Smoke being paired, inability to seperate them, weak new characters compared to previous games, removal of characters intended to be included (eg Sektor, Sareena, Fujin, Kitana etc), Super unlockable rumours and consequently, let-downs.

Actually I believe that the MK fans who loved the older games bought MKDA and when they saw how slow the game was, and how much less of the finishing moves and stage finishers were missing compared to previous MK games, they felt let down. Plus, older MK fans didn't like the idea of having to learn a new fighting system all over again. Plus when most of the finishers weren't as creative as before, they also felt let down.

Sorry for the huge run-on sentence.

When MKD came around, people who bought MKDA and disliked it for those reasons alone were worried that the next game could possibly be the same. They also knew that the speed didn't increase that much, and it was still a little slow. Some of the finishers were lame like in MKDA too. Even with additional MK Chess, and MK Puzzel, and MK Konquest all added didn't bring too many fans back after they tried MKDA and hated it. If you look at it this way, they pulled MK1 off Midway Arcade Treasures 2 to add it as a collector's edition disc only when you bought the Limited Edition version of MKD. That alone should have told us that MKD was probably a let down, and it sort of is. In my opinion, I play them every once in a while, but I find myself wanting to play all the Classical versions more than MKD, or MKDA. They just don't compare gameplay wise to the other MKs in the series. Like I've said before, only the graphics, and music were enhanced in MKDA, and MKD, and nothing more.

There's also a lot of fans out there(oldschool) that don't really like the newer MK's broken or not.

They're used to the good old MK in the 2d era and feel that the new things in MK now are either too difficult to adapt to or they don't want to and prefer the older ones.

There can be a lot of reasons though I suppose.

i think, imo, that DA is just a way better game than D. I like the story more, the roster is cooler, it takes longer, for me at least, and its not as broken. Finally, i think people wanted this one more because it was a new system of fighting, unlike D. smile

Saying people didn't buy MKD because they saw how bad MKDA was is not stupid, and is not flaming.

The reason I think MKD did not sell well was because MKDA had a ton of problems and bad gameplay overall and it wasn't fixed in MKD.

With MKDA, it was understandable since it was their first attempt at the new style of game. And it was a valiant attempt. But it became obvious immediately after the release of MKD that they hadn't learned from MKDA what needed to be done to make an MK game with good gameplay. That was the end. MKA only confirms it. RIP MK Gameplay.

Actually, Dreamcast has a huge fanbase for a discontinued console, and even back when it came out it was well-liked by a lot of people. It's actually (if I remember correctly), more powerful than a PS2 on some counts. In fact, starting this year, Sega has started selling refurbished Dreamcasts, Japan has freeservers currently for PSO, IGN restarted their Dreamcast portion of the site, and new games have been announced.

Sorry for the OT rant... I love my Dreamcast (except the controllers), so I defend it when I can.

Selling refurbished ones? That is awesome. I still have a backup one packed away safely (got 1 for $50 as a gift and bought another later for $40 as a backup). MvC2, CvS2, GGX, 3s, A3, DS Collection, MOTW, just can't beat it.
