Why is there two Sub-Zeros in MK Trilogy
He wasn't in the first tournament and basically stayed in the shadows of the second tournament just as an observer. The secret boss battle during MK 2 may or may not be canon. Just depends on how you look at it (it takes place in Goro's lair which is on Shang Tsung's island that sank into the lost sea after the first tournament).
The way I interpret that is they mean it's his original identity (Sub-Zero) that has been missing since the first tournament after his death but now he has returned, in a new form (which no one knows that at the time).
But looks like we'll go round and round about this point so oh well.

Honestly, I have no idea, but i guess its to make the game better. Stuff like that has confused me for a long time, and to this day, i still don't know. It makes for a good thing for some one to find out, though!!!
