Well, recently i was just playing old 2D fighting games and this surprises me.

You know, Capcom and SNK Playmore had released all those previous classics for PS2, with stunning quality.

SNK Playmore even goes further, remaking those games, example King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match and the recent King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match, with new characters, online function in japan, tons of game modes.

Then I just put those Midway Arcade Treasures 2 to run and see how much lazy and interest there is to keep the franchise alive. Never a MK4 Arcade port, never a no bug MK Gold, never a MK Trilogy online.

Well, as BOON says in Armageddon Fight Night: "the next mk will take a direction that no one have imagined"...

I think that it's because classic games are supposed to be low quality. Just think if Pacman Classic wasn't low quality, and then something like Pacman World 2 looks just like the classic game? It just dosen't seem like proper development.
