Why the change in gore from MK2 to MK3?

I really think the gore in MK3 was inferior when compared to MK2. It also bothered me that a lot of the exploded body parts in MK3 had more than one of the same body part, which is impossible (two skulls, seven arm bones, etc.)
Was there ever an excuse or some good reason from the MK team for such terrible gore in MK3? I honestly think they would have been better off reusing MK2 props.

Either Midway did not grant the MK team enough time or it was just pure laziness on behalf of the MK team and I hope that wasn't the reason.MK3 and UMK3 could of been so so so much better than it is in so many ways.I'm still hoping an HD MKAK is still in consideration.

Either the deadline that Midway always pushed on the MK Team or just for fun,MK HD Collection was cancelled.

The game was a joke, and it was probably just to show that you could never have too much gore, even if it doesn't make sense.

Well, it was a pretty bad joke...
The limbs of characters looked like they took pictures of the legs and arms of a barbie doll. Terrible. Just terrible.

lets not mention the part where the MK3 Character's stood still after being decapitated instead of falling forward.

And let's not even talk about the animalities.
The MK3 models had an horrible design. They had done better designs in UMK 3 and MKT but they added the MK3 designs in UMK3 and MKT instead of fixing it. And there's also the part where the opponent's hand remain in the void.

I would have been content had they recycled MK2's gore.

Likely due to size limitations. More characters, more backgrounds, combos, Animalities... The MK2 gore and death sprites were pretty detailed, they probably were unable to match that when they had to cram so much other stuff in the game. It looks pretty bad, but I don't play MK for the gore so it doesn't bother me that much.

The ridiculous gore in MK3 was a direct response to media/parents groups criticism of video game violence back in the mid 90s.
MK was considered over the top, so they went sarcastically over the top in response to critics.
Wonders how GTA's old nemesis Jack Thompson is doing these days.

Too bad the MUGEN games' fighting system is disgustingly broken and the physics of it all is way too far from the original games. Doesn't even feel like you're playing MK.

ibut you gotta admit it's pretty damn funny when you're actually observing the bone count
in the NTSC version of mk trilogy, every time you do a brutality, the explosion is tripled giving you 3 times more bones, where as in the PAL version it's just one explosion giving you the correct amount of bones
this annoyed me because i was used to the PAL brutality

i do think the bloody fatalities weren't as good as mk1 & 2
every time a character gets their head chopped off the body just freezes where it is, where as in mk1 & 2 the body falls to the ground
the gore was improved in mk4 for the explosive and bloody fatalities as they were real body parts, not just bones
