Would you have wanted the old ideas/concpets for characters, or prefer them as they are?

From photos and concept arts shown to us in magazines and the Krypts, we've seen and learned things about characters and that were drastically different with what we see now. Some examples of this include...
-Jax's original name being "Kurtis Stryker";
-Cyrax being the intended new model for Scorpion;
-Havik being the new model for Noob Saibot;
-Darrius being the new leader of the Red Dragon;
-Reptile wasn't supposed to have as many changes in DA as he did, but were added on thanks to inspiration from Tiamat;
-Kintaro not meant to be a Shokan, but a tiger-based character;
There are several more, including different costume designs, alternate abilities, alternate storylines, different names, and even different characters altogether. My question to you is would you have prefered if some of these initial difference (not limited to what I wrote here) were kept in the final designs?
My own thoughts...
I think that the Cyber-looking Scorpion would've been a first step in branching him away from the ninja look he had had for the last two games (similar to Sub-Zero being unmasked). Rather than having him become a cybernetic spectre though, it could've been a new demon form for him to take on, and with a few colour changes, like adding more black and keeping the spear as a thrown projectile as opposed to it popping from his chest, it might've been an interesting change.
I didn't like the fact that Reptile had a flimsy tail in DA. If it had been a bit longer, bigger, and useful in combat, I'd have prefered it more.
Dairou's original story about being involved with the Deadly Alliance and having his own mummies to control would've been better than what he had in Deception.
Kintaro's former look was definately not one that I prefered, and I'm glad that he's now a Shokan creature.
Havik shouldn't exist. When I saw that that was going to be Noob Saibot, I thought that that was the coolest look he could ever had. The all-black ninja look has been his since MK2, and it's gotten stale to me, and I was disappointed when I saw that they used this costume to make Havik.
I'm not sure if this counts, but I remember a strategy guide had story possibilities for the returning MKG that were actually scrapped and replaced with what we now know, but I liked the idea of Baraka actually being killed by Kung Lao's hat and being ressurected with staples keeping his body together. It showed that Kung Lao's hat was more than just a prop for in-game use, and it demonstrated that when characters are ressurected, they needed their original bodies to come back. Plus, being held together by giant staples sounds neat.
Another concept that I thought was cool was Blaze's looks and fighting styles. An idea for him was to have hair on his head and have a unique weapon style of double axes (of course, the double axes now belong to Nightwolf in Deception).

I wish Cyrax was Scorpion. Scorpion was worthless in UMK3.

Interesting thread, I was thinking of making a thread about the Scorpion / Cyrax concept, but this is better since it's more expansive. About Cyrax / Scorp though, you gotta think it was in the pipeline. I think they gave Cyrax/Scorpion's spear to Smoke, and in exchange gave Smoke's bombs to Cyrax. It's plausible, especially when you take into consideration that Smoke has the armageddon fatality with all those bombs...maybe they gave Sektor (and consequently Smoke) Scorprax's 'teleport' uppercut as well.
Reiko should have been Kahn, he now has no identity. Well, at the very least they shoulda left it undecided until the next game he appears in, the mystique was cool. Only way they can resolve it is by making Reiko the imposter Shang and Quan killed.
They shoulda used many of the concept characters that ended up on the scrap heap; Hachiman, Baphomet, Tiamat, Elder Demons, Undead General, Belokk, Dairou - in MKDA, Evil masters, Yoshitsune Minamoto, Zebron...
Shoulda used so many of the conceptualized arenas; Cave arena, Blade arena, Blood Stone Mine, The Octo Garden, Zaterra, Dojo, Senate of the Elder Gods, Fallen Giants arena, Swamplands, Water temple,
Noob Saibot shoulda been in MK4 - "couldn't see him in some of the stages" my ass...
Sub Zero should NOT have been "called Tundra"
Liu Kang should NOT have been "called " Minamoto Yo Shin Soo"

I would like a sorceress to be in an MK game, we need a female sorcerer.
They obviously had an idea for one in the concept art.

While I want Mavado back, I probably would've prefered Darrius to be a member. The whole Seido thing fell flat for me.
On that note, I also would've prefered Dairou as the bloodthirsty samurai character they originally meant him to be.

Nah. I like Havik and I like Noob Saibot's living shadow appearence.

I'll admit, I prefer the more human-looking Reptile. I understand why they made the changes, but I do still prefer the more human-like Reptile.

I didn't like the concept pic of Kintaro. I'm glad they made him a Shokan.

IMO, Reiko SHOULD have been involved with Sareena like he was originally meant to have been. Well, actually he was originally meant to be Noob Saibot...but after they made him Reiko they should have followed through on his supposed connection to Sareena instead of the Shao Kahn nonsense.
Well, there are some costume designs or characters I liked better in the sketches then the final versions we got, but Im mostly happy with the final results.
Kintaro for example, I hated the original idea for him, I also dislike the idea of Cyrax/Scorpion because Cyrax has become a great character (and like someone said, with much more potential then Scorpion in the recent games), etc.
Good thread man.

-Jax's original name being "Kurtis Stryker";
Not that much of a change, but both are good names for characters with a
"name gimmick".
-Cyrax being the intended new model for Scorpion;
Nope.
-Havik being the new model for Noob Saibot;
Glad they didn't.
-Darrius being the new leader of the Red Dragon;
Could have had alot more sense, Red Dragon plotline owned MK so far.
-Reptile wasn't supposed to have as many changes in DA as he did, but were added on thanks to inspiration from Tiamat;
Yes.
-Kintaro not meant to be a Shokan, but a tiger-based character;
Who cares, the shokan he is now is plain out boring and uninspired.
-Dairou being a rogue, bloodthirsty samurai.
I could have pictured that plotline for Hotaru. Would have been so much
better in the first place.

didn't Kahn's MKD bio say that they killed an imposter? But either way we need Kahn back as the last boss these other people are horrible

No, his MKD bio says that he created a clone of himself with an ancient artifact that his goons found on a camping trip... The last bit was a joke, but Shao Kahn made a clone of himself with an amulet, so we know that it wasn't Reiko.
