someone told me you can take the xbox harddrive and load up a mame emulator onto it, then you can get a mk4 rom and play it online.

the same guy said he had taken apart him xbox controller and ran the wires into a re-arranged sf2 arcade control panel to set it up like mk4, i think hes bullshittin to be honest cuz i just met him like 3 days ago and never seen his xbox.

is it even possibe to play mame games off an xbox?
i still got super nes and im happy

You can put Mame on Xbox. But, any MK game newer then MK1 runs below its normal frame rate. The MK4 arcade rom is not playable in any emulator right now, and I believe there is no internet play for Mame on the xbox either.

But I do believe mame on the XBox is good for CPS2 games like Alpha3, MvC, etc.

As far as the controller, I highly doubt he did that to an xbox controller. Aren't all the buttons pressure sensitive like the PS2 controller? If so the pressure sensing mechanism would be a royal pain in the butt to wire up to arcade controls. A Dreamcast controller, or PSX controller would be very easy to do. I did that with 2 PSX controllers. I gutted the and soldered connections from the gamepad contacts to the prongs on arcade sticks and buttons purchased from happ controls and mounted it to a board. It is easy to do if you get a cheap PSX (or DC) controller because the cheap ones usually have very large areas to solder on to.

Overall though, that dude had probably heard some stuff from someone else, didn't understand it, and started to let his mind expand on it a bit to impress someone.

It is definitely possible to get mame on the xbox. The MK games run pretty good with the exception of UMK3 that doesn't run poorly, but it doesn't run at full speed. Still totally playable.

As dreemer said, you can't play online. There is a feature that would leave one to believe it could be taken online but so far the way hasn't been found.
