I know topics of this stature have popped up in this forum a million times, but seeing as how we are always getting new members around here thanks to the growing popularity of the Mortal Kombat franchise I thought it would be fun to bring this up again and ask what your first experience with the Mortal Kombat Franchise was like.

When I first saw Mortal Kombat myself I was in the local skating rink in my area. This was a newly opened skating rink that had all the bells and whistles, also a freakin’ giant arcade. But on this day there was something different a new arcade I that wasn’t sitting there the other night, and there was like 30 people surrounding it. I quickly raced over to it to try and figure out what it was but it took me about 30 minutes to be able to see anything (I was only 7, I could see over everyone).

As I slowly grew closer and closer to the arcade all I saw was two people knocking each other silly on some haggard ass bridge. Me who royally hated fighting games at the time almost turned around not caring, but then I noticed something different the characters looked almost real and there was blood flying from every punch this kept me entertained for the next 2 rounds, as soon as the fight was over I figured I had saw everything, so I turned around on my way and heard “Finish Him” then some guy next to me exclaimed “DUDE, HOLY S**T.”

Then I got to see what was under the bridge

A glorious display of blood and guts as corpse where hanging from spiky pillars and the character ended up getting impaled on a bed of spikes which contained an unbelievable amount of corpses, guts, and decapitated heads sticking from them very spikes. Then the game became a whole new world.

From that point on I saw heads getting ripped off, hearts getting ripped out, and people being burned alive in a beautiful display of brutality. Also while people where being frozen and being yanked by a spear that eventually put them in shock while this yellow ninja then did as he wished to them I swear it was as if the song O Fortuna was being played over the P.A. as I watched all this.

I think 1992 was the best year of my life.

It was the first game I ever owned on the Sega Genesis. I played it all the time. Actually, it was the first game I ever played.

Me older brother told me he'd played this arcade game called Mortal Kombat, and quite liked it, so when they had a machine in the fair that comes to our village every six months or so, I had a go. Chose to play as Scorpion, fought about one round, then they cut the bloody power off.

Didn't get to play it for a while after that, but it was enough for me to ask for the Master System version for me birthday soon after.

I was 7, and my friend bought it for Genesis. I mashed buttons en route to victory, and then mashed buttons again to do the Spine Rip fatality.

My first Mk encounter? I was about eight and me and some friends had just gotten out of basketball practice and we went to the roller rink across the street get something to drink. I had about 2 bucks on me and I noticed a new arcade game in, it was Mortal Kombat, I played for a while and did an uppercut to a guy on the pit, I was hooked. I was obsessed with the game and needed to know more about it. I got onto our school's internet (which at the time was a serious crime considering how new the internet was to the school. From then on I was hooked.

I was at a local bowling alley when I first discovered Mortal Kombat. I bowled with some college group. Went into the arcade, and saw some dude playing it. I thought it was a Street Fighter clone but after seeing blood, decapitations, and the like, I knew I had to give it a try. I played as Sonya the first time around and then Raiden. Made it all the way to Goro the second time. It was a great experience and I couldn't wait until it came home.

I was 7 and just fimished eating at burger king. When I was walking out with my father I saw a new fighting game. I put two guarters in and selected Raiden. There was no blood (at least to my recallection).
My first true experience was at Pilgrim Lanes. I played my dad one round, at it pretty much took off from there.

Well, I had always seen MK2 at the arcade malls and was amazed by its cool story screen. I saw MK3 in a theater when I went with my preschool class to see Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers:The Movie(what a great day!) and saw Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 at another theater in Columbia and the Frankie's Fun Park. I was attracted to MK3 and UMK3 by its attract screen, marquee, and side art. I can't remember playing MK in the arcades until MK4(by then I had seen both movies), but mom told me that she and I used to play MK3 in the arcade and she would always beat me with Nightwolf(now that I know Nightwolf's reputation, I'm REALLY embarrassed). Though I bet if I rematched her in the MK3 PSX my friend gave me last Friday, I would SO whup her with Sub-Zero or Shang Tsung.

I had gone to mexico and i was 7 years old. One of my older cousins decided to go to some arcade close by. So i went there and saw people play it. I thought it was pretty cool, but when i saw someone perform a fatality i was like WOAHH!!! I really liked it. I thought it was amazing. When i came back to the US, I never heard of it again, until some other cousin who came from san diego brought me a gift, when i opened it, it was MK1 for the super nintendo! I was juiced, i was dissapointed because there was no blood but yeah. Ever since then i have played every single MK! I own almost every game that ever came out.
I have the following:
MK1, MK2, MK3, UMK3 all for the super nintendo
MK Trilogy, MK mythologies, MK4 for the Playstation
MK Gold for dreamcast
MK5 X-Box
