A look into BOONS mind

posted03/17/2004 05:20 AM (UTC)byI was just wondering what makes Boon tick.. I mean what makes him decide to add certain characters or not to.. Take Kabal for example. He was probably the most popular MK3 character.. Tons and Tons of people loved him and loved playing as him.. Why oh why has he been excluded from the games since then? and instead of bringing him back like everyone hopes, you kill him off and introduce some new guy and give him his moves and weapons. It doesnt make sense... Another example would be Smoke. He has been a fan favorite since he was first spotten in MK2. Everyone loved him. Why in Bobs name would you turn him into a cyber ninja and then say he could never be human again? Everyone wants to see him to return as a human, but now its not likely.. My last example is Baraka. Im really glad that he is going to be in MK6. BUT what freakin took soo long to bring him back. (mk gold doesnt count) I mean everone loved him in MK2.. every one wanted him in MK3 but he wasnt there.. instead Boon came up with lame characters like Stryker.. Why would you add Stryker instead of Baraka? I mean theres no way he could have thought to himself "wow, this stryker is really cool, i think instead of bringing back a cool character like baraka we will add a boring crappy chubby looking cop with a lame story line. Id bet my life he will be an instant fan favorite!" thats just my opinion. BOO YA! Anyways sorry for ranting and raving.. Why do you think Boon makes some of the decisions he does?

You make a lot of sense, but I can't tell ya why Boon does that.
He just thinks it's the best thing to do at the moment I guess, or maybe Boon isn't even the one that decides. I think John, Carlos, and some of the other members are the ones that come up with the story.
It would seem like common sense to me though to bring the most popular characters back.
But I don't really know, it's a mystery.

Come on! What does every one think about this?
I think we will never know.
Like, I can see Cage not coming back for MKD, but people will start saying they want him back or that he is dead, and BOM! Cage will be back for Mk7....
Or maybe he saves them to shock as at the end!
Its the way boon is.

Boon is bringing bakc ermac and noob for MK6. That shows hes top tier right there.
in my opinion Boon wants to evolve..not try to bring back characters all the time ..yeah stryker was shitty, but it was all in humour i think ... if Boon listened to everyone he'd bring back every fucking character in every fucking game...cause every character has a fanbase :P

well, you are not totally right in your post, for example when you say that EVERYBODY want to see Smoke in the game in the ninja form...
Personally I can live without him, I think that he is just another ninja with Scorpion move sets.
Why Boon doesn't bring him back? well he can only bring back a limited number of characters so he have to choose. But it look like the MK team have a fixation to always put NEW characters in the MK games, even if those NEW characters are not as popular as some of the favorites.

everyone has good points but no one can really conplain anymore since its been confirmed that every character will make an appearence in konquest mode. now alot of characters wont be playable but at least u will c them.....its better then not seeing them at all. and now we will know who is alive and who is dead b/c we will get to go to the neatherrealm and if u c someone in there u know they are dead.

Kabal, the most popular mk3 character?
Right...

Seeing how many people want him back, it sure does seem like he's one of them no?

Isn't that exactly what happened in MK3? We even saw his gravestone in the Graveyard stage even before MKT!

in MK3 the 3 more popular characters were Sub-Zero, Cyrax and Kabal, mostly because they all had 'stun moves'. However personnally I did like Kabal a lot, but I think the MK team is lacking ideas about how to make him a cool character
in 3-D , the tornado spin was a bit cheesy, the groudblade was really cool and the fireball were well...normal.
What I like about Kabal is the look, and the storyline potential he have.

Yeah most of the time when I played the game (in arcades), seasoned players always seemed to pick one of those three. And I agree because of stun moves, so you could pull off those long comobo strings. Every once in-awhile id see someone who was really good with Lui Kang or Shang tsung. Of course everyone has their own preference and that's what's cool about having alot of characters, if you don't like the popular characters, you can master another one that's not.

I'm not a Kabal fan (really, he's ok, but I didn't use him much), and I can tell you, him and Smoke were the most popular in my area, in fact I rarely saw people use anyone else, with the exception of Sub Zero and the odd time Sindel.

Baraka was in MKT, Then in MKG (yes, gold does count). And i didn't like Ninja Smoke, It wasn't until he was introduced as a Cyborg that i was really interested in him. And i thought he was the best of the three.
But it's kinda sad that we haven't seen the characters from UMK3 in 9 years. I have become very excited about Konquest mode, I really wish that every single character can be seen and interactive. I'd love to see old characters in MK:D's graphics that are not playable.
And we could end up playing as them anyway. Maybe someone could make a Codebreaker code to replace X with X.
