You have gotton a lot of criticism on this theory. I for one would like to extend praise. Posts like this contribute something to the forums as it is a well thought out idea that you fully support with very convincing evidence from the games.
I doubt this route will be taken, but I personally really like the idea and the analagies you made. I also think that you have a fairly solid analysis of Sub's character. I personally hope that the end of times has a higher calling for Sub-Zero. Cheers buddy.

Brilliant theory, there is definitely a creative mind at work here(in reference to ErmacMK5), the way you explained it and the clues that you gathered such as Onaga's specific order for Sub-Zero's elimination make a lot of sense. Others who posted in this thread and disagreed with you had very good points but I think that Sub-Zero becoming King of Outworld could be a good conclusion (or semi-conclusion as he could still be involved behind the scenes) to his story as he could settle and pass the torch to a new warrior. Of course, this idea(the idea of new warrior to take Sub-Zero's place) could also fail seeing as how Liu Kang passing the torch to Shujinko did not seem to be well liked. At any rate, great theory I think it is one of the best if not the best route Sub-Zero's story could take after all he has gone through.
That is an interesting connection and analogy. However, it said Sub-Zero was from Earthrealm. Perhaps he was transported through the realms as a child to protect the last of the Cycromancers. I don't think his parents were, so that would be the only option. If that is the case, Sub-Zero should really return for MK8, because he will play an important role as the leader of Outworld.
Sub-Zero, racially, is a Cyromancer; not a pure one probably, but I sort of doubt there are any pure ones left.
Thank you for your comments, and criticisms. I know sometimes it's tough to think about ideas that differ greatly from your original perception of a character, but as anyone who reads books can tell you, for a character to wind up centered in the end, he has to have some sort of pay off; look at all the bad things that happened to Sub-Zero:
- His older brother was killed.
- He was stalked by the ghost of an over zealous Japanese assassin.
- He was betrayed by his clan, and was hunted down by many men who he considered his friends (most of all, his best friend Smoke.)
- He was betrayed by his first great pupil Frost, and watched her die.
This is a man who has done everything in his power to change from a devil may care assassin, to a man of honor; he is now among the most Noble warriors the Earthrealm has; he lacks a lot of the lesser qualities that his counterparts have (Kung Lao's self doubt in DA Konquest or his bitterness in SM, Cage arrogance, Sonya's anger.) And in a world of revenge, he is a compassionate, forgiving man.
He sounds like the epitome of the platonic ruler to me; wise, noble, just, and compassionate.
Some deeds that show his compassion and forgiveness:
- Noob-Smoke: We do not know what Sub-Zero's purpose was in finding Noob and Smoke in their ending in MKD; It is obvious this ending isn't canon, but at the same time, you know that Sub-Zero is looking for a way to help both his brother and his best friend. His brother is a man who would rather see him dead, and his former friend has tried to kill him on at least one occasion, yet Sub-Zero cares more about them than about himself.
- Frost: Frost meant to overthrow him, and see him dead. A lesser man would've left her corpse where it lay after she died, but Sub-Zero performed a proper burial for her. in addition to this, Sub-Zero didn't blame Frost; he blamed himself for not instilling in her proper discipline.
- saving Kenshi's life: He had no obligation to do that; if anything it set him back in his flight from Outworld, and put him at risk. But here he was, taking the time out of a day that involved being attacked by a few dozen Tarkatan, and the Zealous Hotaru to save the life of a complete stranger.
Now, read what I've said, and tell me that Sub-Zero doesn't have the same traits of nobility that a character like Aaragorn has. Sub-Zero has completely overcome his dark-side, and has become really the absolute epitome of goodness; he's as pure Good as Liu Kang at this point, and unlike Liu Kang, he has some actual story depth, and instead of being thrust into an important position, he has grown into it over a decade and a half.
In my opinion the only end for Sub-Zero is an external outcome that matches his internal nobility.

I was thinking about this for a while and I have changed my view, Sub-Zero could be a great king and they could still be a lot of stoyline possiblities. I am sorry I saw MK8 opening with good guys trying to defeat a tyrant which would probably be the easiest route out and new players wouldn't feel lost. I think that's what they once said that tey were aiming for, anyways if Sub=Zero does become king and Lucifer or another evil guy emerges as a new threat from another realm besides outworld Sub-Zero can use his army to fight it. but that would take the series into a more total war type enviroment. I have seen MK as not a huge battle between large armies but as solitary individuals trying to reach their goals. A great way to set the tone for the next MK would be that in this game's FMV ending they showed the good guys winning and then Sub claiming the throne. In MK8 if they started it by killing Sub-Zero, and they whould only show Sub's bloody head on the floor and don't show the killer, that would really set the tone for the next MK. You also brought something else to my attention, the fact that Sub is not a pure Cycromancer. A pure Cycromancer......mmmmmmmmmm.....that would be amazing. In real biology Sub-Zero would show all the phenotypic characteristics of being a Cycromancer, or he might not they might have all of the characteristics a pure Cycromancer has. But I can see that if a true Cycromancer he would be like a Pure-Blood wizard in Harry Potter, like Malfoy he should have an arrogance, and I can see a rivalry between him and Sub-Zero. I think that the Cycromancers should be related to the Vampires. I just got an amazing idea have you ever seen Underworld: Evolution, well what if an elder like Marcus emerged and he had both Cycromancer and Vampire blood in him and he was both of their common ancestors that would be amazing.

Well, just a bit of a note Ermac, Scorpion's MK2 ending implies that while Sub-Zero was an assassin, he was more merciful than his older brother (which is why Scorpion vowed to protect him, to make up for killing his older brother) Just a bit of a note there.

Very true; however, one has to see some sort of evolution in the Sub-Zero character. While he was more merciful, he was still an assassin. These could be just seen as seeds of good that eventually helped him evolve into a hero.

I think that's going a little too far for the great Sub-Zero. He's fine and dandy when it comes to leading the White lotus or something, but ruler of a realm? Outworld? Why? That would convert Outworld back to a peaceful place, and that can't happen. It wouldn't make any sense. If you got Frost, I wanna see!

Why wouldn't it make any sense? The threats don't always have to come from Outworld you know.
Sub-Zero leading the White Lotus Society on the other hand makes zero sense because he isn't a Shaolin monk or a former Shaolin monk like the three people (four counting the Great Kung Lao) who we know to have been members of it; Liu Kang, Kai and Kung Lao .

The White Lotus thing might not work, but Sub-Zero shouldn't rule any realm.
I will say though, that the threats shouldn't come from Outworld anymore. That's too cliche. In fact, Tanya should beat the crap out of Sindel and take over Edenia. That way, we'll have another realm to fight in, besides Earthrealm, Outworld, and the Netherrealm.
If not (and I hope yes), Raiden should get his last nerve shot to Hell, and he decides to do away with Earthrealm.

Ya know Noob is taking over Netherrealm if your looking for new threats. And hey! He's Sub-Zero's brother. How convienent.

Outworld NEEDS to go back to a place of peace. They've gone to the well one too many times with that Realm; I'd really rather see ANY realm be the evil realm that Outworld now. I still say the future in MK is in another dimension that has it's own set of realms/ Gods. This dimension would try to take over ours, which would result in the Elder Gods creating a NEW Mortal Kombat tournament to stop them (Yes, the game would go back to a tournament after several games that were essentially wars.)
