Alternates being used in chess, and something else i noticed

If you let the game play, occasionally the computers will be using alternate costumes in chess mode. Not on the actual chess board, but during the battles for a square.
and i have a question.. occasionally when i quit the practice mode, it saves something to my memory card. what the hell could have changed in practice mode that warrants a save to my card? Hmm

Dunno about practice but the 2nd player has had an alt costume when ive been playing and not just demo.

actually, it's not the character's alternate outfit they are in (for some strange reason it'll kick in after a while), but it's they're alternate primary outfit (like, hotaru's alternate primary outfit is the same except his flags and cloth are blue rather then red).

Nope, ive had them be in there alts before, not just 2nd player colour. when there fighting only tho.
