BB tell me who is your ISP or internet provider. Also, what kind of router are you using? Do you have any other firewalls such as software firewalls? Tell me everything you know about your connection. Tell me how many computers use this connection as well. Tell me how the box is set up. I will help you optimize your connection as much as possible.

My background....
I currently work at a University in New Orleans and I am Network Analyst.
I have an associates degree in Computer Networking, A+, Network+ Certified, and I am working on my MCP right now. I take that test in two weeks. Anyone else who is having problems post here and I will help you to the best of my ability. Bobby you need the help first you can't stay connected for anything, yet when we play the connection seems fine.
Good idea Trax. This is the best speed tester for anything even fiber optic lines. BroadBandSpeedTests

http://www.speedtest.net/

Perform a speed test on your line against servers in the West and East coast, then send in the outcome. That would help Quest eliminate as many variables as possible.

Quest, I didn't know you were a techno buff(short for technology not techno/trance music hehe).

That's a pretty impressive resume you have there, I'll keep that in mind if I should have any questions in the future on that topic.

quest... haha its funny I was actually going to PM you about this erlier today. im a little drunk right now but ill try my best. My ISP is UP.NET (www.up.net) its just some shitty internet provider in upper michigan. I connect to my xbox directly through a nortel networks modem...I do have a router though for my computers which is a d-link, however I hook direct to the modem when I go on xbox. I had been playing MKA fine ever since it came out in october but recently I cant even seem to stay connection for 1 game.

I have never heard of UP.net. You are connecting your xbox directly to your modem? Do not do that. You want your modem going straight to your router and all you PC's and Xbox to go through your router. Dlink is a pretty good router. I need way more info. Run that speed test and also let me know if you are running cable or dsl. So far it sounds like you are having a hardware issue with your modem and I would see about getting a new one and not refurbished, but first make sure your modem has the latest firmware installed.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 857 kbps (107.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 63 kbps (7.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

^^ LOL at the upload.... most of the time my dl ranges from 800-1000+ so thats good enough but my upload should at least be double that. I cant play mk through my router, i cant even stay connected at all then...it lags way to bad.

dude, those are the worst speed results ever. I am sorry bobby, but you either need to invest in a new connection or just don't play any games online. Your connection is not capable of playing games online. That upload speed matters a lot when it comes to online gaming.

Call your internet provider and let them know. Tell them you want someone to perform a line test and possibly check into seeing if they have a better or updated modem. Also, make sure you are getting what you are paying for.

Yeah, man I have DSL and that's definitely NOT supposed to happen lol. Sorry to hear about the bad news man concerning your connection.

I'm sure you will be alright though eventually if not right now.

Hey Bobby,

Check the contention ratio of your DSL line. There's a possibility your line had not used up all the ratios until few months ago. What this simply means is that more people are now sharing your bandwidth. This ratio varies across different providers or plan you've subscribed to. If you also notice, there'd be time of day when gameplay is fine.

So just take Quest's advice and ring up your ISP to curse them, shit on them, tell them they suck then open up your wallet and give them more money then you'd be back online with your Sareena.

Good luck dude!

Your DSL is dropping when the phone rings? This is an easy one. A) you need a new modem B) Do you have an alarm system at your house? c) call them and tell them (up.net) you are not going to put up with that shit. DSL is not suppose to drop you when the phone rings, hence getting away from dialup!

Yeah, worse thing that can happen is he gets a new internet provider if his Verizon DSL sucks near him.

Fios is awesome, however more expensive. My friend has that and it's insanely fast. The fastest internet you can get right now or at least one of the fastest.

I already had some faggit come out here and do a line test..

LMAO !! Damn.. funny shit as always Bob-O

You might switch to another DSL provider. 40 Kpbs upload is unplayable speed bro

I recommend Yahoo... if you can get it.

Personally.. I am proud to declare that I have Cable.

I recommend that most of all. If you have the money... GET THAT !

Saves you a trip in the long run.

Thats just me...

If you can get Charter in your area... do so. Pretty realiable connection

Hey bobby, how much is verizon fios near you man? That's the fastest right now and sometimes they have specials. I know because rich used to have cable internet now has fios, he says it's so much faster and cable was fast, fios is even faster. When I went by his house, I clicked links, sites etc I'm talking as soon as you click you're in lol.

Just figured I'd ask.

Hmm...

If there are people around you that are not satisfied with their DSL... you can start a petition for Charter to run a line to their (and your"s") house.

You might call Charter... and ask request what they can do.

Do you have a green box in the front of your house or neighborhood? It is what provides the street with the internet i guess. But in my neighbor hood in the green box there was an obsolete MTU. That was why my phone disconnected my games.

Does that sound right trax, or quest.

It took hours on the phone to get them up here to replace it but now i don't have that problem

MTU should be set to around 1500. So if you have your router configured for anything less than that, then you want to change it to between 1400 and 1488. That's the maximum packet rate sent across on your line and you need that much for gaming. So yeah, MeSoFly is right. Check your MTUs.
