I wanted to get some feedback on how you guys approach using your breakers and taking the breakers of your opponents. I will explain my use of breakers. Please add your comments on how you use yours.
For me I feel most of my matches are won or lost in the mid of the 3rd rd. I feel that there is a spot in there in which either myself or my opponent can hit a key combo 30-40% to turn the tide of the round and the match. In that moment I want to have at least one breaker and my opponent to have 0. I figure if my opponent has no breakers I only need to set up for a combo 1x. If he has a breaker or more then I will have to do more work. So in the earlier rounds I never uppercut or plant. I am looking to do combos that will be broken. If I am playing a better player and death traps are on. I will try to knock my opponent into a deathtrap if the opportunity arises. knowing that they will use a breaker to avoid it.
Rd. 1.
In round 1 winning is almost secondary to taking at least one breaker. If I am about to lose the round I might eat a breaker to continue the round to get my opponent to use one breaker. If my opponent gets through rd 1 with 3 breakers...even if I won the round I still feel like I lost in a way
Rd 2.
Similar to rd 1. The only difference is if I won the first round. I try not to use ANY breakers. I try to save them for that 3rd round. Unless, I sense victory in that round then I might use them all up going for the kill. If I used 2 in the first round and lost then I wont use the last. I figure I will need to win a round without a breaker. If i do it this round...i am in good shape for rd 3. If i cant do it then it doesnt make a difference if i use it or not. However, I might use the last breaker to save me from the loss if its on the last move. Once again my priority is taking the breakers hopefully they have 1 or none by the end of the round
Rd. 3
I try to wait to the end of the match when we letting it all hang out. If they have 2 or more breakers. I dont use juggles and air combos as much. I try to do more plants, stuns and uppercuts. Which I usually dont use in the earlier rounfds

Nice thread, Mav!
I think it depends on whom you're playing. If I'm playing a very high level player, I tend to use up all my breakers by round two. The winner of the first round is always crucial. I think it gives you some sort of psychological boast. I rarely use my breakers in the second unless I'm close to winning and I just want to finish off the match.
Being in control and dictating play is also very important.

I just use them whenever. by accident sometimes to tell the truth. the worst is when you accidently use on on a blocked wake up attack.

Pig r u saying that you just use them right away and never save them?
Also do you play to take breakers does the amount of breakers of your opponents have change your playing at all.

I use them on accident alot. I also use them when I get bored or when I'm hungry. Usually I use them when I'm close to dying or the other guy has me stuck somewhere I don't want to be.
I've tried different strategies. I have yet to notice a "proper" time. Like Pig said, the better players I've played have used them as soon as I've got them in what they know is a big combo. Aside from the obvious exceptions, they've never been bashful at using those things.

i waste them, i tend to play more careful when i dont have the "crutch" at my disposal.
breakers and parrys in the same game, dumb concept anyway.

LOL, I am the worst. I hate breakers sooo much that I refuse to use them myself. I think everyone that plays me knows this. How many times have you seen me use breakers? Rarely.... So there is my lovely feedback and gameplay on that issue. Fucking breakers are gay! Do not put breakers and a parry in the same game. This is one of the main things that drive me in MKA!

I tend to save my breakers till the very last match. Plus I try to make my opponent use all his/her breakers in the first match. That way he has none and I have all three in round 3.........or two.

NEVER GIVE YOUR OPPONENT MOMENTUM. I use them all at once , I'd sell 3 breakers any day to win first round because I have two rounds left to take yours and win one. :) It works well.

I don't know. If you take them away immediately you'll be able to do high damaging combos without having to worry about your opponent breaking them.
i never need them
the better i can play without needing them, the better i am at the game
mkda ftw
but yea what pig said, also, using a combo breaker online sometimes changes the lag to your side, so use it.
why do i hate using breakers? because of how they are done: forward and block
when you counter someone, you always have to have your finger on forward, if youre not immediatly moving in after a blocked, pushed back move to counter, then you arent countering as fast as possible.
online with lag, the second you are supposed to hold forward, because of the lag, instead of countering for huge damage, you wind up wasting your breakers because online is slow and theres delay.
solution: a parry button/breaker button
other thing is if you are walking forward and someone hits you with a short framed move, you only have time ( online with lag ) to press block and not get hit. but you still got your finger on forward!!!!! you cant let go og it in time!!!!! this reminds me of what dncmegaman said about wasting a breaker off wakeup 2.
STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hate breakers!!!!!!!!
adding to what g-gamer said though - make them lose their breakers so they become scared of the big combos. itll only cost you 3 counters so go for it and mix it up with other damage ( unbreakable or uppercuts/lows ) so you get a 50% lead, that will make them waste their breakers
good thread dude

just wanted to post that up, if i was a mod id give you a dragon point for that.

This is interesting...it seems most of you play the exact opposite of me. it seems you guys play to win the first round. Using your breakers there to get a lead and end quell your opponents momentum. I play to win round 3, I dont want my momentum to be stopped in that round and i want to stop any momentum my opponent has. I do understand where you guys are coming from though, makes sense. My overall philosophy is this. If i can beat a guy in 2 rounds i probably dont need breakers anyway. Its the 3 round battles that breakers seem to have importance. But according to the way alot of you guys seem to play if you stop the momentum early, you may not need to play a 3rd round. Its also interesting to see how peeps view the breakers. I never thought about how they and parrys interact. To me it is just part of the game. However, i think I will try to play without using breakers...i think it will improve my overall skill level.

playing to win round 3 puts more pressure on you and I REALLY agree with red that when I don't have breakers I play much more carefully and use my brain more. :)

I'd prefer to play without them, but since they're in there to begin with I'll do my best NOT to use them until the second and third round.
IMO if you use all of them in the first round, that's not good because if you mess up you will eat damage that will and can make a big difference in the overall match.
If you can play without using them all together then that's even better, stretch shrimp and alex are two players that don't use them much until the 3rd round. Everyone else on here uses them in either the first or second round for them most part.
Now, there are certain situations where (you get free hits off a breaker) and if it's say against Jarek where you can get a free drop, the player that broke Jarek better have some health left if it's the third match and it's close.

im all parrys the only time i use one is when im getting air cancelled

If I use them early, it's usually to prevent a big combo. Also, I think its helpfull to allow one or two hits then use the breaker to throw your oppoents timing off.
As far as my opponents breakers, I try and use unbreakable combos frequently and counter with sweeps just to prevent them from using them.
By constanly countering with sweeps, you train them defensively. In tight situations they will not automatcially hold forward and block and it can leave them open for a 50/50.
Same thing for unbreakable combos. I train my opponent to not bother to use his breakers to stop a combo but try and avoid it and in turn leaving themselves open for a devistating combo.
**Disclaimer** These things do not work vs Groy or Easy

For me it totally depends on the player i am fighting.
I almost always use one in the first round win or lose. I guess it is to make them use one or more because they know i am close and they want it so they use them to win that round.
If they don't use them then i have a better chance of winning the first round. So if i win then i'll sacrifice the breaker. Then i don't use them till i am pissed off.
second round if i am up allot i will use it for the kill if not then i might use one more to make them use the last of theirs or i'll save them both.
But it really depends on the player i fight.

Yeah also like pumkin said, sometimes I won't use any but if my foe gets me in that 33 or ac I'll use it because I don't feel like staying in the air the whole match, especially if it's the 3rd round.

It'll only be a few matches sadly not the whole 8 because since I was taping them oldschool arcade style thru VCR, and then record them via my cam.
I have 3 matches at least or maybe 4 max, but I'll definitely put up the Dairou vs. Sareena matches for everyone to see, Bobby will comment on them in a few days, he told me he's going away for a few.
But yeah, hopefully but the end of today or definitely sometime tomorrow they will be up here once I upload them onto youtube.
