Now here is my predicament.
I had XBox live at one point, but there was a big issue with lag and bad connections being that my XB was connected wireless to my router and then wireless from my router to my modem.
I don't want to be left in the dust with all these things that might come out of it like new environments, characters, alternates.
What should I do?

Well you can wait and see if there will be a greatest hits version that will include the contents from xbox live... the game lost planet has a version out that all the updates, stages, and characters and such... what type of router do you have? I have netgear and have had no issues with my xbox live connections... the other option you can try is buy a ethernet switch that you can plug to your electric socket and then plug the recieving end where your xbox is and it runs through your lines in the wall and you would be plugged in.... netgear powerline The price of these things varies... but its a example of what you can do.... hope this helps....

i hate to state the obvious but you could try plugging your XBOX 360 directly into your modem, this should solve lag issues!

Yeah that's what I did. It's a hell of a lot faster that way.

Yeah...seriously just my view here but wireless blows ass compared to wired, better and more secure connection and it helps and is good if you're playing Xbox version also, since it's actually moderated and done well online.
My friend has wireless and he gets disconnected sometimes, that wouldn't happen to him if he just used wires.
