Create Characters - Banned From Tournaments.
Create Characters - Banned From Tournaments.

posted02/20/2006 08:25 AM (UTC)byFrom reading the article in it's entirety(major props to kamidogu) it looks like Ed Boon totally plans on allowing created characters online. This is a foolish idea for many reasons. On a gameplay front it's bad and for those who don't care about gameplay it's still bad. I feel it interferes with the mysticality of the series and defers from what makes MK so awesome: the characters.
Anyway, my mini-fit asside I am near 100% sure created characters will be banned from tournaments held by people who are serious about the game.
Something also tells me Onaga and Motaro will be so incredibly broken that they will be banned from tournaments as well.

Same here. It's a worthless mode in my eyes and I didn't touch SC3's either! Lol! We have so many characters to use it's just not needed.

Agreed. Created characters should not be used in serious matches. The regular characters will be broken enough.

I've played SC3 a lot and I'm not big on the create-a-char either, but MKA's CAC will be superior. Every single command is yours to change and edit. This will allow players who know what they are doing to easily give their chars the best possible move that button could lead to.
Just imaigne a character with puke,ts drop,cloud, jujutsu: f+3, escrima: f+2, mogai ryu: f+1 and ashrah's throw.
That character, without even touching the rest of his movelist would be virtually unbeatable by AT LEAST 55 of the 60 chars.

I agree with secondgen in that the regular characters will be broken, but there's nothing we can do about it. At least when fighting a broken character like Reptile(I'm telling you..he will be broken!) we know what he's capable of. Imagine fighting someone and losing because he did an attack you never knew he had. It's fucking stupid. If Midway is serious about allowing CAC's online then they better make it an exclusive mode. Then I totally wouldn't mind.
Blending casual scrubs who want to show off their broken characters with serious players who are aiming for elite status in MKA's online community will end up catostrophic.

Ahahaha, well, I've started thinking one thing might be good though.
Suppose each character is as broken as the next, this game is going to be fun.

I think that's the only hope. That every character is so broken that everyone can compete. You have to treat the MK team differently. Anyone else you say "fix this! fix that!". With them you have to say "break this! break that!!!!".

This thread is scaring me.
The most broken game in existance, hell freezing over has nothing on MK: Armageddon the way it's heading.
Can't wait to see it.

I think you guys are giving way too much credit to a mode that will porbably be shallow as hell. Yeah, you'll be able to customize your look, and probably choose the move set you can pick. But I really doubt that you'll be able to actually pick every singly move in your aresnal like say, a Smackdown! title's C-A-C.

^ You can, go to kamidogu.com.
Wow. Not one positive comment in this whole thread. Allow me to be the first.
I expect precious little out of created-a-character. Soul Calibur's create-a-character didn't impress me much, so I'm even less enthused about this one. However, I would like to see what the mode has to offer. I could be very pleasantly surprised, you know? It's possible. Just because it's an MK game doesn't mean it's written in stone "and thus created charactes shall be broken."
The most fun I had with Soul Calibur's created characters was to take them to a versus mode against another created character. Like in a real fighting tournament, you may have no idea what he or she will look like or how he or she will fight. Doesn't that make it more realistic? So, you won't know what he'll do, unlike Reptile, Scorpion, or Sub-Zero; that adds to the tension. If it's balanced enough, I can see this mode being a lot of fun.
I would love to take MY character online; however, I think they should have a seperate online arena specifically for created characters. That would please both parties.
Naturally, the created characters will be banned from official tournaments. Soul Calibur's didn't make the cut, so I doubt MK's would either. It makes sense; it's a different playing field.

Like I said before. Created characters will be fun to play with and all, but they will be banned from tourneys..simple.
Again, this CAC is different from SC3's in that you have FULL customizeable options for the chars move list.

Haha, I was just going to say that MK is now taking the MvC2 approach. Just make everyone broke as fuck. The only problem is that some people wont be broke enough, lol.
Ah, but you see, some great design by the MK dev team have we. They acknowledge that problem of not broke enough, and give you a CAC to make sure they will be. Fucking brilliant, IMO.
Honestly, I'm looking forward to it. I spent more time in HCTP's CAW mode than the actual game, lol. So i'm looking forward to making my cyborg-ninja-tranny.
FEAR THE TRANNY!!!!

i love how people are judging the entire game based on one little article in a gaming mag.
the game is 9 months (and whos to say it wont get delayed?) away people, so dont get your "im hardcore" panties in a bunch.
all ive heard over the past year.."man i wish they would have a create a fighter mode" and "they need a game like mk trilogy that has a bunch of characters" when they listen and give us these things, all you jokers come out of the woodworks to bitch about everything...without even knowing anything.
no one knows the game will be broken. they have had plenty of time on it, and still have 9 more months to go. i hope the infinates and shit like that are removed, but theyre not gonna go in and tweak every single move to please a couple of "hardcore" cry babies on the internet.

Exactly, I dont want some random dumbass character to be able to emit freeze blasts, throw harpoons, shoot lightning, etc.

True, but that’s the whole point of a create-your-character...you create what you want and how you want it.
I also hope these characters are banned from online mode, if the gameplay is still broken and unfixed (but lets be positive for a few secs and hope not)....I can just imagine the chaos.
I personally don’t really care about the c-y-c option, I will use it of course, but in the very end. There will be better things in the game then that mode.
so youe telling me that you pick each move in your created style
how will that work
i thought we would just be selecting from the different styles already made up. if its styles that we already know, then we'd be able to look at what styles they have on the selcet screen. but, my goodness if its one style and i can have any attack in it. thats just silly and dumb..
we can have a separate CAC tourney.
well, what if your CAC is balenced?
my 1st one will have FJP, eagle claw and kali sticks. i say thats balenced enough. his name will be DANCOCK he'll be wearing, well.. not much
i wonder if it'll say your name when you win, or if it'll just be silent?

true points, but shouldn't the character be unique? Why should that character have to take away from everyone else on the game?
Maybe they could add some unique special moves for us to pick and choose from. Of those moves we would be allowed to use a limited number.
I won't be using the c-a-c mode. I hate that sucha mode is in MK and in this MK especially, it is somewhat pointless, imo.
