In all fairness, yes there should definately be a league of tournaments that excludes created characters, since there's just no way to have a CAC system as mentioned being made for MKA without allowing the possiblity of super-broken characters.
However people like me are going to want to bring out their CACs on-line to show them off against other's CACs. There must be at least some form of on-line play that allows them. They should just other online competions that don't.
Its called compromise. You don't like CACs, stick with the "standard roster only" servers. But don't demand they be banned alltogether as this cuts out a whole other fun possiblity on-line play allows. For the first time in a fightning game with a CAC enginge people could finally show off their creations to the community and play them online against the world.

Wow. Not one positive comment in this whole thread. Allow me to be the first.
I expect precious little out of created-a-character. Soul Calibur's create-a-character didn't impress me much, so I'm even less enthused about this one. However, I would like to see what the mode has to offer. I could be very pleasantly surprised, you know? It's possible. Just because it's an MK game doesn't mean it's written in stone "and thus created charactes shall be broken."
The most fun I had with Soul Calibur's created characters was to take them to a versus mode against another created character. Like in a real fighting tournament, you may have no idea what he or she will look like or how he or she will fight. Doesn't that make it more realistic? So, you won't know what he'll do, unlike Reptile, Scorpion, or Sub-Zero; that adds to the tension. If it's balanced enough, I can see this mode being a lot of fun.
I would love to take MY character online; however, I think they should have a seperate online arena specifically for created characters. That would please both parties.
Naturally, the created characters will be banned from official tournaments. Soul Calibur's didn't make the cut, so I doubt MK's would either. It makes sense; it's a different playing field.

Yeah Garlador lol, gotta love the love for MK now days, then again on this site HA, HA what love?
Anyway, I will check this CAC out, see what it's about.
P.S. Menthol, yeah I'm sure you would make a prime candidate for Midway.winkwinktongue
I'd like to see you do a better job then Midway.tongue Honestly, I would.

Blending casual scrubs who want to show off their broken characters with serious players who are aiming for elite status in MKA's online community will end up catostrophic....

That sounds really, really stupid. Not to mention sad. Anyone wanting to have "elite status in MKA's online community..." has way too much free time. Besides that, though, you need to realize that your belief is very selfish. I sure as hell am not bothering with the online scene, and likely not with CAC, but I would be pissed off if I couldn't use it if I wanted to. Especially since the 8-player minigame will likely be on-line only.... which means in a few years that part of the game will be worthless because everyone will be done playing it online. Its basically wasted code in my book. I think online portions of games take away from the majority of players, because the majority of gamers don't bother playing online.
If someone buys the game for a mode like CAC and doesn't have online, what do you say to that guy? Exactly. So just be happy you have the minigame, because the CAC being online only would just be stupid and tick a lot of people off.

Well it makes more sence for the battles to be like this:
-Kreated Fighters vs. Kreated Fighters (not during tournaments of course)
You can see who has the best Created fighter this way.
-Normal Fighters vs. Normal Fighters
Fair play. I hope lol.
Edit*- I didn't see some of the previous threads. I looked, someone else said the same thing I think.

Bro, you know I understand and respect your thoughts on gameplay and all this, but just in case (because Im not so sure Im following), what do you mean when you say that the create-your-character mode has to be exclusive? I dont really get what you and Johnny_Cage_Wins are trying to say with that.

I dont know what the hell he's saying. What I am saying is that created characters should be exclusive to a certain lobby or server or room. I have no problem with them being allowed online, but you should not be allowed to pit them against real character unless in one of those rooms/lobbies/servers. CAC will certainly be broken for the most part and will ruin the experience.

Oh, Ok.
I agree that the create your character mode shouldn’t be online, I can imagine the chaos…but if it is, I think that there will be “groupsâ€? that wont accept to battle anyone if they choose a created character, which is perfectly fair and understandable, so one should respect the other.
No point in arguing with someone because they don’t want to fight your created character, if one doesn’t want to that’s it.

Not really. The C-A-F mode looks really diverse. Its just like creating a wrestler on a wrestling game, exactly like it.

Holy shit guys, wait for the game to come out before you judge it. From a perspective of picking every single move, there is going to be disadvantages. I would think that if you picked moves outside of one fighting style, you wouldnt be able to do much in the way of dial a combos. I personally think the created characters will be at a disadvantage unless you opt to use a pre created fighting style.
I admit there are going to be some cheap asses out there that will exploit the system and create cheap unstoppable characters, but that shouldnt take away from those who genuinly want to make a good fighter, and fight online with him.
I still think the c-a-c mode should have just been make your look, pick 3 fighting styles, and pick your specials ( the amount depending on their damage values). But I guess boon thinks this will make it more in depth ?

DOH!!!! CAC can be allowed in Tournaments.
hes how.
say i dont like the way tanya looks like, but i love all her styles the way they are. well i make a CAC look the way i want it to look like, but i assign him/her all of tanyas styles and moves exactly the way they are on her.
so i say CAC are allowed as long as they match one of the 60+ guys.
if they are tweak in any way. they should be banned from Tournaments then.

Yeah, but what real assurances would anyone have that the movelists haven't been changed? There's really no way to tell until the match starts.
I agree that CAC's should only be allowed to go up against other CAC'S.
And if MKA turns out to be broken in the MvC2/UMK3 way, I could definitely live with that. It would be better than nothing.

I don't see the problem. If people are using `broken` characters, then other people will know it- it's up to people to choose who to play as and against. As far as "tournaments" go, i don't care, since i'm not a super good player who does such things.
I like the idea of having good characters and not so good ones- you can set a handicap this way. Noone complains that some cars are better than other cars in gran turismo.
Although create a character modes are often a bit of an excuse to slack off in developing the core game, it's still a welcome addition, and i'm sure i'll play with it.

Guys, there will more than likely be a choice of gametypes that you can create or join online, such as deathraps on/off, created characters allowed/not allowed. I'm sure this issue has already been discussed by the development staff who realize that not everyone wants to play the same way. Just optimatch that shit and look for games with C-A-C mode Not Allowed.
Chances are, if you thought about it, the MK team has thought about it too. I'll send you my report from this years E3 and let you guys know the deal this comming May. If the team hasn't thought of it by then, I'll be sure to run it by them as well as some other important game play features that will be needed.
Honestly, I'm not worried about the C-A-C mode, its the Air Combos that have me shaken with visions of X-men vs Street Fighter infinites in my head! I know that they may impliment some sort of "hit cap" to minimize the possibility of an infinite, but that has been tried many times by Capcom who has been doing air combos for years and they still can't stop the infinites!
I hope I'm wrong but I can already see some kid finding out how to re-juggle someone and then it's over, no breakers and you're toast sadsadsad.
I know that the free throws infinites will be fixed but air combos will be the new scourge online, not C-A-C's............trust me.
Peace

hell yeah a better practice mode. i want to be able to make my practice dummy do what i want him to do. like if i need for him to duck an dblock always, then i want to be able to make him do that while i practice stuff. if i want him to do a clone over and over, then i want to make him do that. i want to be able to see how much damage will be given when my foe is in weapon. etc you get my point.

From reading the article in it's entirety(major props to kamidogu) it looks like Ed Boon totally plans on allowing created characters online. This is a foolish idea for many reasons. On a gameplay front it's bad and for those who don't care about gameplay it's still bad. I feel it interferes with the mysticality of the series and defers from what makes MK so awesome: the characters.
Anyway, my mini-fit asside I am near 100% sure created characters will be banned from tournaments held by people who are serious about the game.
Something also tells me Onaga and Motaro will be so incredibly broken that they will be banned from tournaments as well.

I agree 100%
