I think he is one of if not the most unoriginal character concepts to come up in a fighting game (not just MK). He's definitely a filler and seems very out of place in the War for Edenia.

Never mind the character, the name itself sounds horrible. IMO, i dont think he will turn out to be a great character, just a filler. Ah well, we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree about the name, I hope they change it before the final release because I just can’t imagine the announcer say “Ben Wins”. But I am a bit interested in the character himself, I hope we see more of him at E3.

Don't use filler..... it's the stupidest word I've ever heard of. I think Ben could be a good rip-off of Ken and we don't know his full-story so don't go dissing him or making him to large just in case he's like another Mokap or he could be another Scorpion.

Ben (change the name at least Midway) sounds like the most unoriginal MK character, even more so than say Jarek. There are plenty of karate champion characters in beat em up games, and most of them are just not very interesting.

Plus, how is an average karate guy (which it seems he's supposed to be) getting in over guys like Kung Lao, Cage and other established human heroes?

I'm sorry, but Ben seems like one of those unofficial characters added in non canon stuff like the Malibu comics who only exist to be killed by one of the main fighters (like Sonya's short lived mate with the metal arm).

Actually, "Johnny Cage" is one awesome name. I like it a lot!

To me it sounds like this 'Ben' character is almost like a poor replacement for Johnny Cage. Another guy who has one of those "Johnny cool guy" type of names, and he's a hot shot martial artist. He'll be to Johnny Cage like what Tanya was to Kitana in MK4...boring replacement.

I agreed that "Ben" isn't a very good name for a person in MK, but like Hsu Hao was Khan in the very 1st images of MK: DA, his name might change . All characters names in MK games have been catchy, I think "Ben" will have one if his name wil remain Ben, or the new name the MK team will give him

johnny cage has always been and always will be my favourite character,i hate the idea of them 'replacing' him with ben(!). Instead of doing that why dont they just give johnny a more intersting storyline than he makes a movie which is really successful...etc?

I say give him a shot. Ben is a fine name. I mean, Sonya is a pretty common name, and I even know a couple Mileena's and a Jade lives on my street. Ben, I think could be a really cool character. Ken and Ryu's design is timeless and given the character designs of everyone this time around, I think he will be unique, and fun.

I do not beleive he is a filler or a replacement for Cage, who's departure IMO is long overdue.

give him a chance.. he might be really cool... im not liking the name so far but who knows i'll still give him a shot... and if it is just a cheap filler for johhny... well then in the end my opinion of johhny will have gone up a notch just to see this guy replaced... but who knows... havent seen anything .... just know his name... and he's martial arts champion.... so at least learn more of the character before judging him completely.... and ruling him out as a possibly cool character.... though i must admit im not excited about him... as i am with kira and skab and other new characters.... but wait and see

I agree that Ben sounds like a Ken rip-off. That only causes me to despise him. I doubt his name will remain "Ben", but regardless ... There are far more interesting character ideas than "martial arts champion". Hopefully we are being deceived.

I think we as fans must come to the realization that there is a HUGE difference between joke characters and shitty characters. A shitty character would be stryker. He was not intentionally made to be crappy(atleast I don't think so) and we all hate him because he's..in short..wack as fuck. However, Mokap and Ben are NOT meant to be taken seriously. They are joke characters. Just like Dan in Capcom cames, and you can even stretch for Kuma in Tekken, but I know tons of Kuma players.
