I was thinking that the characters on MK need their own specific arenas. Some characters do have them, but not all. Given the new interactivity in MKD, it opens up plenty of possibilities for arenas, deathtraps and weapons. What character related backgrounds do you all have in mind? I have one for Raiden which I'll post later.

Here’s a Stage for Frost and Sub.

Ice Arena:

The main fighting arena lies in the center and is a circular icy floor. The entire surface is slippery, but for Sub and Frost, it is perfect terrain and they can walk on the ice with no problem. Everyone else slides. The outside edge of the arena has icy spikes (stalagmites or stalactites – I forget which) coming out of the ground. An uppercut here would see the opponent impaled. There is a small gap in 4 opposite corners of the spikes, which lead to a pit with starving angler fish or piranha (or some other carniverous fish). Anyone falling in will be eaten alive. The background is cavern like and an icy rain falls on the arena. In the very center of the arena is an ice column with a sword inside. However, the weapon has a small icy pool around it which has two small bridges made of ice leading to it. You have to walk these to get to the weapons and avoid falling into the freezing water below. The cavern wall fences in half of the arena and it also provides a partial roof. However, the cave wall is pretty sensitive. A hard blow to the opponent would send them through the icy spikes at the edge and into the cave wall, causing more icy spikes from above to fall and impale them!

So, what do you think? And make some of your own.

I can think of4 that I would like to see.

1, Inside the new Lin Kuei temple. It looks cool from the outside, I would like to see it in the inside. Some sort of ice spike death trap would be nice.

2. A 3-D version of Scorpion's lair from UMK3. To me that had to be the best stage area from any MK game by far. I would love to see it in 3-D. A lava death trap would be cool

3. If Frost is in MK6 it would be cool to be if she had some kind of hide out or place of her own sort of a 2nd ice area.

4. Raiden's area. I think it would be cool to see a area that takes place far above in air. Raiden stage should be like cloudly, thundering and lighting

You have some good ideas.

I told you I'd expand on that sky stage idea for Raiden and here is my idea for it.

Raidens Sky Platform:

This is a square arena with no walls or barriers. It sits on a dark thunder cloud and floats along through the thundery sky. In the background you can see the lightning. You hear thunder and there is rain of course. Falling off the edge means falling into the thunder cloud resulting in you being blown up. The camera will lower showing your blood, limbs and flesh raining form the sky! (No cheesy KI fall to the ground here! This is MK!!)

The arena itself is huge! Why? Because as you travel through the sky, lightning bolts destroy the edge of the arena and sometimes central parts (randomly) and so you have to keep from falling off as best you can.
Also, the arena can also conduct electricity. There a resistor pads around the arena that you must step on before the lightning strikes the ground, preventing you from taking damage. Thunder will be the warning telling you to move onto them. Although that probably would be a bad idea. Since lightning comes before thunder, the first lightning strike will strike one of the pads showing you that it is resistant to it. There’ll be an option to have that feature on or not. One or two weapons will be on resistor pads and for s deathtrap, there will be a lightning conductor in the center of the arena. If an opponent is knocked into it, since they’re wet because of the rain, they’ll be blasted to bits. A stormy wind also blows on occasion and blows you towards the edge.

Nice Thread!

tgrant, these are really good ideas that might possibly be in the final game.

After all, we really don't have much information on the stages yet, and a good deal of the characters aren't as easily defined for this type of thing as Sub-Zero or Rayden, so even if a number of the stages that are tied to an actual character are in the game, maybe it will only be a handful of them... which would be fine by me.

I'm hoping that Boon and Company are thinking along the same lines as you on this issue.

I can think of a few levels.
The Netherealm
The Elder God Temple
The Place where Lui Kang grew up
The Lin Kuei
Outrealm(I think thats what its called)
Shang Tsungs dungeon from the movie
Shoa Kanhs dungeony place from the movie
Where Shoa Kanh and Lui Kang fight in the movie
That spiky pit place from old MK games
I think that every one should have their own unique level as well.

A handful of character specific stages would b cool with me too. Hopefully the MK Team are working on something like these for some of the characters. I think these kind of stages help define a character a little more.

Great ideas Tgrant! I like this thread, let me see:

A Special Forces LEVEL!: (Sonya, Jax, Cyrax, Kenshi)

I think it would be awesome to fight in a dangerous lab of the Special Forces. There could be strange weapons to choose from and dangerous death traps since there could be scientific experiments/monsters there.

Black/Red Dragons base:

Something similar maybe, but with the Dragons stuff. You can see prisoners and all kinds of awesome things.

RAYDEN:

A level in the sky. (lol, all I can think about) You can actually fight in a floating arena or clouds very high and a death trap or pit could be throwing your character down to earth and die.

good ideas everyone!

For your rayden level tgrant,you should have it were when lightning breaks part of the level, a unique lightning rod may pop out. (I know, kind of corny)
I have any idea to

Fujin= a small cloud with a hole in the middle and no boarders. There is a constant wind blow that slowly moves your character. The wind will change speed and directon every two minutes. You can get blow off the level with this. also unique wepons may blow onto the level and off

1. I'm thinking a temple of fire right next to a cliff leading to a death trap the opponent falls into lava and melts the temple will have a core in it where lava pours every ten seconds,on the edge of the cliff there will be points where opponents can fall but below there is a dragon made of flame that eats them then coughs up the firey bones
2. An ice Shrine for Frost's Father with a swords around the shrine one triggers icicles to shoot throughout the match if hit the impalation will kill them,no second round.
3. Scorpion's portal a mix of skeletal figures in the background with souls flying out of the skeletons,TIf the opponent is casted into the Backgound souls and Skeletons will rip the opponent apart

I think a movie set for Johnny Cage could work quite well. It could have a real "kung fu movie" feel to it, like the first MK did. It could even be based on, say, the palace gates, as Johnny's making an MK movie.

Lots of breakable props and scenery make up the set, and filming equipment (cameras and stuff)around it. You can either smash people through them, or pick up bits to use as weapons. Extras joining in from time to time to attack either player (possible Mokap cameo?). And a good few kung fu weapons to pick up and use on your opponents. Not sure whether this background could do a stage fatality though.

I would like the Pit level from MK Games past to make a return. To make sure it's not just a challenge to see who could knock the other player of the Bridge first, I would have it be in a considerable stated of disrepair, and many of the spikes are broken. If one player is knocked off of a side, they have a good chance of landing in the Pit bottom, and not getting impaled (though if hit in certain places, the match will end quick). Then the character's can battle it out under the pit, and there would be many background hazards, like the spikes on the floor, and the ones one the columns.
Edit: Whoops, I forgot the Character specific part. Well, it is where you fight Reptile in MK1, so close enough.

Great thread tgrant!

I have one I'd like to see for Sindel:

You start the fight right outside of Sindel's Palace which is very beautilful because the Palace is on a raised column, So if your knocked off instant deathtrap. The sky is clear blue and every once in a while you see some large exotic creatures fly by, and if you get to close to one of them they attack you or carry you over the edge and drop you. You can also take the fight inside the palace by knocking someone through a wall. There are also guards standing outside the palace, they don't move unless someone on the screen is Sindel then If the opponent gets to close they get swiped with the guards Halbreds. When you take it inside it is a perfect replica of the MK4 throne room that Kitana and Mileena were in. However the big hole in the middle of the floor opens and closes at randum and you can knock someone down there for a death trap, because waiting for them at the bottom is water filled with pirrana or similar creatures (being Edenia). What do you think? Do keep in mind that I just woke up so I'm a little tired, so be gentle. smile

Awesome, I like it TomTaz! The idea of exotic creatures is cool.

I would add though, a more gothic feel to her level. Sindel needs that dark/gothic thing I love about her so much.

What did you think of a Special Forces base level???

Thanks Queve, and yes I love your SF level Idea. I'd be cool to see someone ripped apart by some monstrous experiment gone wrong. I love it.

Another background idea, this one for Stryker, assuming he ever comes back (hey, I like him).

A normal street on Earth at night. Buildings across one side of the stage, the other would have a drop to a railway line, where trains randomly go across (SPLAT!). The street itself would have parked cars and a SWAT van, which can either be smashed up, or used as higher ground, as well as the usual things like street lamps etc. Some buildings would also have balconies which fighters can jump on. A couple of weapons would also be available to find, a SWAT riot shield (we've not yet had shields in MK, this could be interesting) and an assault rifle, high damaging but with limited ammo.

I think Sub always had the best potential for stages. I'm surprised it's taken them so long to include frozen ice spikes until recently. I'm glad you included them. I also like the slip-hazard affect a lot.
