Think about it. MK has been kinda down lately. DC is, has, and for the most part, will always be popular. I think this game is intriguing because of the story, characters, etc. but did they make this game to make some money or are they really hardcore about the game itself?
Uhm.. both... when you have a new product obviously you want to make good money fast and you always want to give a good quality product.

*Sighs* Every company makes money whether or not they're not doing good or they are doing good. Depending on how sales go, they're still making money. And I haven't noticed at all that MK has been "Down" lately. Just because Armageddon wasn't something to be proud of, it at least made decent amount of money for Midway. Though to answer your question, I doubt that Midway is poor and needs a new idea that might trigger their success to come back, this game is merely just for fun and something shocking to the people who are harecore MK fans.

Obviously they want to make money but it's also about the MK team wanting to do a crossover game. Now they've been given the opportunity I doubt they'll waste it.

It wasn't just MK:A. Mortal Kombat has been the "laughing stock" of the gaming world since MK:D. Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Tekken have all expanded on their fighting systems and gameplay, but MK has stayed relatively stunted. With that said however, the MK fan base has always been loyal. MK vs DCU will more than likely sell well as MK:D and MK:A did. It will garner a few awards as did the previous games, but that doesn't mean it's a good game or will technically be successful.

I think that MK vs DCU is a gimmicky game to get heads turning and to get a new audience (the DC comic book crowd) into the series and ultimately, get them out to buy the game. Midway isn't doing tremendously well and they need this game to be a success. However it also somewhat seems that Ed and the MK team have acknowledged past mistakes and are trying to make the game more fun to play. Whether we actually see that happen in the end, well only time will tell. In the end though I personally have to deem this game a bit more of "cash-cow" than a legitimate attempt at producing a fighting game on par with it's competition.

mk hasn't been truly taken serious by mainstream gamers since mk2, maybe 3. but its hardcore fanbase has supported it thus far. it is being made to boost sales, and it is a real fighting game. all the games have been. mk has just had its ups and downs like every other fighting series.

I love both series, and even at times DC just like Marvel has been down(in the comics) at different times I still love DC more personally then Marvel so I'm hyped for this game honestly.

As for MK, I pretty much agree with what Hector said in the recent inteview. All companies at some point "struggle" but bounce back. I really believe Midway will do well once this game is out and that TNA game(I'm not a wrestling fan but have to admit) it looks very good.

I believe this was made for the sole purpose of "reinventing the franchise" and trying something new(that's where DC comes in partially)

Both needed something like this, DC is awesome when it comes to comics I admit.... but with vid games?Severly lacking....until now. They haven't had a good or very well known game in ages, JL heroes was alright but way overpowered by MUA and haven't had a fighting game since the Sega/SNES days. That's a while now.

I think DC will get some positive attention for once in the vid game universe with this game and DCU for PC. And as for MK, they needed to revamp everything anyway. I feel the same way Boon does on this particular issue. I think it will benefit both companies. glasses

i hope the game won't seel well, because if the sales are high we could expect a MK vs DCu 2.
sorry i really didn't want a crossover, and the DC thing isn't going to save the MK franchise.
i highly doubt that DC fanboys will become loyal MK fans trough time.
so yeah the game is a failure, how it will sell will be secundary:it coud help Midway financially, but could also bury MK forever.

Oh yeah let's all hope it doesn't sell well so we'll never see the real Mortal Kombat 8!?
Even IF they game get's bad reviews it will sell copies if not because of anything else then because of DC.

I'd rather not risk there being another MK vs DC game thanks. I love MK but I'd rather see it die than have it mixed with the DC universe again.

What do you mean by this statement? "Mortal Kombat has been the "laughing stock" of the gaming world since MK:D."

What she means is, that ever since MKD took the series online and revealed to the world how poorly developed and tested the series is, it's been a laughing stock. MKD had tonnes of glitches, infinites, free throws and was heavily broken. The imbalance of the characters is literally disgraceful. I believe only MKA can match it in terms of how badly produced it is as a fighting game. On a competitive level in the fighting genre market, MK cannot be regarded as a serious, competitive game due to all of this. Practically every other fighter out there has vastly superior gameplay and that includes the likes of Super Smash Bros, Soul Calibur and Tekken.
