Does anyone else feel "Vampires" seem out of place in MK?

I really liked Nitara, probably because I like Vampires, but she wasn't that great. I liked her Kama's and her Jaguar fighting styles, but other than that, she sucked. Her wings were bad-ass, but you could hardly friggin use them. The looked like crap half the time, and her special moves were ass. She didn't add any dimension to the story at all either. She has potential, but I wont mind if I never see her again.

good point noface!
I thought nitara was fine. She looke cool and unique. Why should she all gothic and turning into mist and shit. WTF?? You all are just hung up on creating characters out of other games and movies and combining them into something else. I think this a nice way to look at vampires. As for her being a rip off, you don't honestly thing that cyborgs, centaurs, and four armed people are originaly created. Cyborgs have been around in movies before MK, centaurs and shokans are rooted into deep myth and lore. So are vampires. They weren't just something thought up by bram stocker or whoever wrote the first vampire book.

Vampires are so overdone these days...I didnt think they fit into MK very well...but I didnt complain, it's not too bad.

No offense, but MK does not have a single original idea. Even the 1st Mortal Kombat game was to be loosely based off of a movie (Bloodsport I believe). All of the characters are loosely based off of myth, movie characters, etc. They are usually just done in a new way that makes them interesting. Vampires are just one of the newer 'rip-offs' that MK uses. I think they are a welcome addition, just wish there was better work done on their wings.

It was Enter the Dragon, which MK borrowed from. The Shaolin monk, the tournamnet on the island, the dragon symbol (it was backwards in ETD, but look at the select screen in MK1), and the final fight VS the old man are all elements from the movie that appear in MK1.
Anyways, I didn't like the vampire idea much. Nitara was ok, but wasn't really menacing enough for me. I don't think vampires belong in MK, but if they can introduce a cooler, more viscious vampire than maybe it will work better next time.

Well some of my favorite movies are Dracula, Underworld, and Blade. And I constamtly read the Vampire Chronicles, I'd have to disagree here and say yes Vampires are perfect for Mortal Kombat (but no wings, they're vampires not succubi)
Um, isn't a succubus a type of vampire?
Anyway, I hate vampires. But I wouldn't mind seeing them in MK if they actually put some effort into the design and story, and really make the concept their own. In the same way that Centaurs come from Greek and Roman mythology, but the Centaurs in MK3 were only very loosely based on that concept. They were the enemies of the Shokan, and they weren't straight up half-man, half-horse. It was the twisted, Outworld version of a familiar beast, and some effort was put into the design and making it fit into MK.
Therefore I feel that if the Vampire people appear in subsequent games, there needs to be a dramatic design overhaul with significant MK-style idiosyncracies and some compelling backstory i.e. don't piggyback on old legends, reinvent them. That's what MK is all about.
PS
The wings were the only change from the familiar hollywood vampire. A step in the right direction, but not used much in gameplay and therefore perhaps superfluous. Has anyone seen Van Helsing? When those vamps get pissed, that's the level of extreme mutation that the new MK vampires need!

Um, isn't a succubus a type of vampire? Um, no, a succubus is a female demon capable of all types of destruction, but specializing in enticing and then drinking from men's souls. Now if you are using the very loose and general definition of the word "vampire", then sure as you could include Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, and many others, but we are talking about the classic Vampire race. Psychic vampires and like creatures living off the soul or essence of others need not apply.
Now in terms of design, I would like to see a male Vampire in MK:D looking allot like Meir Link from the Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust anime. He was such a bad@ss.
If you like great anime and you still haven't seen Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust... well your just missing out on an epic story and some amazing visuals. It was the anime that replaced Ninja Scroll as my favorite anime ever.
Meir Link: "Taking on a Vampire at night is a mission for morons and fools, which are you!?"
