Just wandering how flexible downloadable content can be. I mean, everything on the disc has to be approved to be a Teen rating. However, can add-ons be Mature?

Certainly would solve some of the fatality issues, like Joker's which now being censored.... kinda like the old ABACAB from Sega Genesis would allow the alternate fatalities.

I understand that Mk has to respect DC's wishes, but just in terms of getting around the ESRB, is it feasible? or does downloadable content need to respect the disc rating. Anyone know?

I would have to imagine that Midway would face fines if they broke their rating in DLC. Considering that Midway is currently valued at -$40,000,000 I'd have to imagine that they cannot afford a fine, lol.

The downloadable content has to follow the teen rating because if they download the stuff they'll see how gory mortal kombat really is and they'll probably be in some shit.

DLC can be anything. Stages, characters, game patches, new costumes, models, sadly, no changes to the gameplay have been seen in any DLC compatible game. And to answer your other question, No. No M rated DLC. They COULD, but they would be in ALOT of trouble.

"If a company submits a game to us and it gets a teen rating and then wants to add downloadable content to that game in the future, which is obviously happening a lot today, they have to keep the content in the downloadable product consistent with the core rating. It can’t go out of bounds"

What would be interesting is if they could get the DLC rated seperately. That way they could sell the game at a T rating and post T rated DLC, but they would also be able to label some DLC as M rated and post those while still being in compliance with the ESRB.

DC isn't even an issue as they don't really care as long as

A: Their characters' actions are kept true to their comic book counterparts

B: The game itself can be released with a T rating, allowing it to reach a wider range of people.

I don't really think that MK vs. DC will go from a T-Rating to a Mature Rating with the downloadable content. I can see what you're point is and it's very good, but I just don't think that Midway will make the game Mature once downloadable content is available to us. Though, I really don't like the fact that they're censoring Joker's fatality, there's really no point towards that at all.
