Greetings from Los Angeles! It has definitely been a wild day for all of us here at E3, but as you can imagine it is more than worth it!
I've had a ton of gametime with MK:De, and I can tell you that the game is really turning out to be a fantastic experience! You'll find out lots of information about the game from the MKO Official Updates (coming soon!), so I'll spare you the details for now.
What I will tell you is my impressions, thus far. Obviously, the story has taken its darker twist back into the atmosphere of MK2, and this is evident in a lot of the backgrounds (The Outworld, The Dead Pool, and The Bridge are all present, along with background music tracks that are heavily inspired by the MK1-2 tunes). The gameplay right now is roughly equivalent to that of MK:DA. I have not noticed a dramatic increase in speed, but I have noticed that matches are ended much quicker than they were in DA. This obviously is credited to the variety of background traps and stage hazards. Also, there is much more variety to the method of fighting your opponent. Similar to the mods created for Half_life and Unreal Tournament, the MK Mini Games serve as a more creative way to deal out carnage. Both games have heavy fighting influences as you play, particularly MK Chess where taking a piece requires you to battle the opponent. This is similar to Stratego from the olden days. There is much more to say, but I will save it for the Official Update (DArqueBishop, CCShadow, ]ombat, and Scott-Howell are up in the hotel room working diligently right now!
Also, we met Elijah Wood from Lord of the Rings, and I got an autographed copy of MKDA!

Sweet man. You are truly lucky. Thats cool about the autograph too.
It would be a sad mistake for Boon to add all these cool features and ignore the one feature that makes a fighting game great. GAMEPLAY!
MKDe should have TWICE as many combos per character as MKDA and it should be balanced.

I wouldn't worry. They still have all summer long to finish this thing up in time. They have PLENTY of time to make sure everything is perfect, down to a T.

I agree. While everything does look good so far, i must say that i havnt seen any DRAMATIC increases with the speed so far. Hopefully they do speed it up alot more than MKDA. Gameplay is one of the most important things. I just hope they focus on it just as much as they focus on anything else.
As for everything else, awesome. Thanks for the info Mobster, it seems like you had a fun time there. I cant wait for more updates and news. I'm thrilled that the dead pool and such are returning.

You guys really shouldn't worry about the as the game is far from done and the developers and Ed himself have told me that they are adding in a lot of great things like a countering system like a parry, multiple throws both for standing and ducking opponents, combo breakers and other play mechanics as well. Don't listen to all that junk about "the game plays just like MKDA". Right now the game is more balanced than 'DA and the button response durring attacks and combos is dead on at this point in development.
I made sure to mention a few things to the development staff concerning game play elements such as parries, counters, speed and the suck wich makes for good mind games to make this game tournament ready and its seems that Ed is well aware of these and is addressing them. Oh yeah by the way, for all you character buffs out there. I asked Ed about the number of characters in the game and he replied, " The main selection of characters will be the 24 on sreen but that does not include the hidden characters. The hidden characters will of course be new ones. I asked about the rest of the characters that were in MKDA that didn't make it and he stated that a lot of them will be characters that you can earn through various game modes, however they will not have endings in the game.
I think thats great because at least they will be in the game and playable! I just don't know if all of them will be in it but a good number of them will be there. You have to commend this development teams effort into this project when you experience first hand what they are doing for this ambitious game. On a side note The graphics are so much better than MKDA and it yes the XBOX version looks much better than that PS2 version.
They are indeed using the XBOX's bump mapping features among others and it will only get better.
I don't post here too often but feel free to ask me any questions about the game and I'll try to answer you as soon as I get logged on after E3 tomorrow.
Peace out peeps.

Hey MisterMalone I got Six questions for you,
Number One:
Is Ed and the Dev. Team going to deepen the gameplay to DOA3/SCII Standard?
Number Two:
The MKO Staff said that the Graphical qualities of the game are the same as MKDA - I heard they were using Bump Mapping, multiple layers, gloss mapping, etc - is this yet to be seen?
Number Three:
Will there be FMV or movie endings for the characters?
Number Four:
Will the Dragon King have the ability to perform a Fatality?
Number Five: Was the Intro on show at E3?
Number Six: Will their be torn clothing, body damage along with facial damage - when blood flows down body will it leave residue?
And Finally Question Seven:
You say that the MKDA characters who did not make it into MKD will be unlockable/playable - Will the retain the same look, moves, fatalities or will their appearance/statistics be slightly tweaked
- Thanks A bunch!

To answer your question about who I am, I'm just someone who used to work for for a videogame retail store years ago but now I am a supervisor for Washington Mutual. I kept all the contacts that I made at the store who were in the industry and I go to E3 every year. Actually I was speaking to two of the development staff first just getting general questions answered and offering mu input as most people do at E3. When I was playing the PS version I turned around to comment on something and right there watching me play was Ed so I shook his hand and began my questions for all the fans who might want to know a few things. You don't have to be anybody at E3 to speak to a game creator. Ed Boon and his staff are the most friendly crew I had the chance to speak to yesterday.
Peace out.
Peace out.

Ok so I took the liberty of printing out your questions and I was able to get a few moments to ask Ed about the questions on your list before some dude in a blue shirt pulled him away for an interview. Poor Ed had been questioned all day and he still had a smile on his face though you could see he was tired. I beleive you'll be happy with the answers I got for you:
(1) Yes Ed and his staff will deepen the play mechanics with counters, parries and and some high/low mind game mix-ups. Theres more but he could elaborate on it.
(2) The XBOX version is currently using bump mapping and some very nice textures and even though its not complete it looks much better than MK:DA. The PS2 version is using a simulated effect and it dosen't look too bad though you can see the difference side by side.
(3) FMV endings...maybe if there is time (sorry I could get a definite answer)
(4) The one you have been waiting for! YES THE DRAGON KING WILL HAVE A FATALITY!!!! I figured you'd like that one!
(5) No, at least not to the general show goers, but I'm sure it was there in some form that the media attendees got to see.
(6) Yes the MK:DA hidden characters will be tweaked and graphically enhanced to match the new graphics engine. No comment on the fatalities or moveset but one of the staff menbers is trying hard to convince them to make Jax one of the hidden MK:DA characters.
I hope this information helps ease yor pain from the burning questions that most of us never get answered. I had a lot of fun doing it!
Peace out.

Hey,
I know you are probobly being loaded with questions, and Ed is tired, and the last thing I want is for him to be stressed. If you have time tomarrow, if you see Ed please consider asking him a few questions of mine. Thnx.
1) Will you be making the secrets a lot more hidden in MK:D?
2) Will each character have his own special Hari kiri?
3) Will you be making a new deal to make some new merchandise for MK:D? Like Action figures, cards, clothing etc.
Thnx, Have fun at E3!

Hmmm...
I wounder whats with the lack of updates is all about. Maybe they are just having really fun playing MK:D, or they are talking to the MK team. But its just a little weird that nobody has updated at all yet. Hope they have some good news and info to share.

The fact of the matter is that E3 is honestly a lot of work! I've never been here before, and I initially thought that it would be a lot of goofing off and playing games, etc. Truthfully, there is a lot of that. But more importantly, there is a LOT of walking around, a LOT of hunting down, a LOT of time spent uploading, watermarking, thumbnailing, converting, refreshing, etc. etc. A LOT of time crying about $7 hamburgers and $3 sodas. A LOT of time finding parking, finding wi-fi, finding various cables, etc. etc. The updates are coming as fast as they guys can put them up, but patience is key. Keep in mind that this is a site run by fans, not by professionals with corporate credit cards. And no one else has the great MK:De coverage that MKO has ... And there is more coming!

Hey I'm going to have to leave those questions in the hands of mobster4christ as I will be returning to work tomorrow so my E3 time is done for this year. He's right about those burgers costing an arm and a leg, I bought breakfast for my friend and I and it totaled 21.70! I have to admit that it was quite nice to see our favorite characters with classic special moves back in like Subzeros' ice clone, Scorpions' teleport punch, Meleena only had one move so far, her roll and you can juggle off of it. You guys are going to fall in love with this game once it's complete.
On a side not, Ermac is the Bomb! Ed kind of joked around with me and said "Wow, it looks like we're going to have to tone him down!" Today I asked if he was serious about that and he replied "No, don't worry." He's a cool cat I'll say that for sure.
Peace out.
