Ermac is stupid. There, I said it.

Ermac is a totally lame color swap ninja character that was only ever created because people saw the "error macros" thing in MK1 and were convinced it was a secret character. He didn't even make the cut until Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and even then his suck was too great. His story was lame, his moves were either ripped from other characters (the teleport punch), generic (the fireball), or lame (if you can pull off the telekenetic slam against a SKILLED opponent without getting horribly punished for it, I applaud you). I was shocked to see he was actually sitting pretty at many user's favorite character posts. He's easily one of the stupidest characters ever in Mortal Kombat (next to people like Kai, Jarek, and Fujin). Does anyone agree with me or is everyone a member of the "Ermac is Totally Sweet" Brigade?

I'm not trying to start a flame thread, I just wanted to see if anyone else disliked Ermac. Seriously, for some reason, I hate that guy. There's plenty of "I Hate Mortal Kombat Annihilation" threads on this board and no one accused them of being flamers.

None of those characters you mentioned I would say are stupid, least of all Ermac.

Part of the fact that he was basically created by the fans is what makes him cool. Maybe the teleport punch was a rip off move, but the fireball, even though generic was a good one. It was big, fast moving, and sat at a good height on screen. As for his telekenetic slam, well start clapping, I was very good at kicking the hell out of people with the aid of that move, it's not difficult.

but hey man, if you don't like him that's fine.

Well what your doing is not giving a valid reason for hating him, besides he is made from a glitch, and the way that the topic is worded sounds like you challenging the Ermac fans.

Ermac was, in fact, just a palette swap like the rest of the ninjas from day one. In Mortal Kombat 3, he was loved and adored by many fans who used him on a regular and or constant basis. Many people love the various ninjas for one reason or another, be it based on moveset, story or even just the color.

The point is, if you were skilled enough to use his combos than he wasn't really a bad character, just like anyone else. If you could manage to beat someone with him, what does it matter?

If you honestly think that he was a bad character in MK3, wait and give him a shot in Deception. I'm sure that he will sport a new look, enchanced story and a more lucrative moveset.

OK, OK, I'm backing down. The post was supposed to be sort of funny, but obviously it wasn't. However, I gave more reasons for disliking Ermac besides him being based on a glitch (his story and his moves, I thought, were contrived and lame). Although he's one of my least favorite characters in the series, I'm not entirely turned off to him being in Deception - his new outfit is unique (rather than just a color swap) and it looks cool. Plus I heard they were tying him in with Kenshi somehow since they both rock the telekenesis, which could be sweet because Kenshi was rad.

What's wrong with Fujin? sad

Anyway, Ermac is cool. Most people love a character, and find the reasons why later. I'm always supporting why I like Smoke with facts, reasons, and ideas, but that's all for convincing purposes. None of those reasons are why I like Smoke. It's all about story and character. Same with Ermac.

Ah, C'mon. He wasn't THAT offensive. I agree that the post was bound to piss people off, but he flamed Ermac, not other users. So what's the big deal? I mean, really. Look at all the crap he's getting, and has he flamed anyone yet?

THANK you. Jeez, I didn't think people would take so much offense to me making fun of a video game character. True, it may have been a little bit of a dirty trick, since Ermac isn't here to defend himself... still, I opened up some love for the big E by conceding he has potential to be sweet in Deception. Hooray, I'm a noobie. sad Can we move on?

I don't care too much for the Ermac character but a lot of people do like him. Its funny, a character that was nothing more than a Glitch in the original MK game has a huge fanbase.

Well, you gotta understand that before you got here, we were having a huge problem with noobs, and all that they drag along with them. Hence, the sig. I mean, we're practically leaving out rat poison for the fuckers. So because of that, everyone's defenses are on high, myself included, and you can't really blame them. We're just tired of all the flooding and harsh attitude. If you had made this thread about a month ago, the reactions would have been much more mild. You just got caught in the middle I guess. But as you handled the situation correctly, you've shown that your not a noob. So no worries.

Does anybody remember back when MK 2 was in real early stages of development, they had a big article on it in Electronic Gaming Monthly? None of the new characters had names yet.. the EGM writers had this big thing about the new characters and they all thought that Baraka was going to be named Ermac. Does anyone remember this?

I agree that Ermac, Kai, and Jarek are lame characters, but I'd also like to add Noob Saibot, Reiko, Mokap, Johnny Cage, Stryker, Sheeva, and Kabal.

Good ones. Reiko, in my opinion, is the worst character in Mortal Kombat, and I read somewhere that the design team feels the same way. Sheeva wasn't so bad, but how lame was she in Annihilation? She spends the whole movie grunting like she's the baddest ass in the world and then she gets totally smashed by a cage without ever even hitting any of the good guys. Whoopee. Way to go, Sheeva.
