Yeah, just checked the mail expecting to get my new Game Informer today. It was there, I was pretty happy i've been waiting for it. Took it in the house, skimmed every last corner, not a TIDBIT of information on Deception. I'm more than slightly pissed off. This is the FOURTH issue in a row with virtually NOTHING on Deception. Giving MK the front of the March Issue is great, but then almost nothing else for 4 months straight is bullcrap. June's issue had a tiny bit of info, but nothing we didn't already know and nothing to get excited about.

Don't know if it makes anyone else mad, but it does for me. Not to mention the magazine is dedicated to the best games of E3 2004, it's got Deception as #6 on the best Playstation 2 game at the show, and it's mentioned nowhere else? C'mon guys, you talked about every game I can THINK of but Deception. Maybe the next EGM will deliver.

Thanks for nothing. I'll be sending them an
e-mail now.

Weren't there four pages of MK:Deception information in the May issue of Game Informer?

I don't expect Game Informer to put MK:Deception info in EVERY issue. MK:D isn't the only upcoming game, there are other games to cover.

The following is the copy/pasted e-mail that I sent them:

-----------------------------------------

Hey man, before I start my complaint I just want to start off by telling you how much I *usually* love you guys. You have always been a great magazine, but now that I'm a subscriber, I'm slightly upset.

I'm going to start off by telling you that I am a hardcore Mortal Kombat fan. I really appreciate that the March 2004 Issue of Game Informer featured several pages on Deception, but since then, there has been virtually NO information on Deception featured in the last 4 Months. In the June Issue with Halo 2 on the cover, you went slightly into certain details but NOTHING the entire community didn't already know from leaked info from several different sources ahead of time (at least I did).

Tonight I was expecting my July Issue 2 days ahead of time, and I got it. I was quite pleased that it was on time. However, being a hardcore MK fan, I was really excited to see what new Deception info you guys had.... I went through every page word for word and found NOTHING on it. Do you have any idea how disappointed I am?

I might be mistaken, but from the March 2004 Issue I got the impression that you guys had major rights to Deception info, and that you would have plenty more of it to come. Maybe I was wrong to make that assumption. What's even more upsetting is that It was placed as #6 on the top Playstation 2 games of E3 2004, but had no information on it in the magazine itself, yet the rest of the magazine contained every game at E3 I can think of BUT Mortal Kombat Deception.

I understand that it is hard to please everyone, that it can never be done, and how hard it must be to run a successful gaming informational magazine. But, given you that, I really am disappointed with what has gone on lately. It's frustrating that all the games on your best of E3 2004 list were covered BUT Deception.

I guess what I'm asking, is if you could Include at least 2 or 3 pages of EXCLUSIVE NEW Deception info in your August or September Issue. As the days go by, it gets harder and harder to wait for this game, but you guys have the power to make it easier.

Much love to you guys, and I wish you the best. Make me happy! :)

Cartmansp:

Yes there were, but nothing I didn't already know ahead of time. I don't expect something EVERY SINGLE month, but it would be nice. Why can't they if they manage to do it for such a gay game like Halo 2? All you ever hear about anymore.

At least something small every other month, jeez.

Wasn't the issue with Halo 2 on the cover the May issue?

May - Halo 2
June - GTA: San Andreas
July - Metroid Prime: Echoes

Careful what you call Halo 2. There are people here, that if they found you on the street would shoot you and then sadomize you for saying that. The only reason they have Halo 2 coverage every month is because the guys at BUNGIE are giving out so much information. It's a little different with DEception since Boon is so uptight.

So that means there have only been two issues without MK:Deception info, instead of four. tongue

I never said there were four.

Re-read the message, I said ALMOST no information in four.

And two is too many anyway.

Also read my e-mail to them ;)

Riiiight, that's the reason Halo 2 is getting more coverage than MK:D. wink

Hehe, that really gave me a nice little chuckle.

No, you're wrong. The reason why Boon isn't releasing alot of info on Deception is because he doesn't want another MK:DA in terms of "killed by its own hype". Halo 2 is going down that road, same with Half-Life 2. They might be good games when they are done, but because of the huge amount of hype generated by fans and the gaming industry, they WILL die on their own hype.

Look at Half-Life 2 for example. Valve said that HL2 would be ready on the 30th of September, 2003. But the source code theft proved that it was no where near complete to the high standard that it was claiming to be. It might be taken as a radical way of delaying an unfinished product, but it did allow time for Valve to fix up HL2.

My point is that don't take the lack of Deception news as Boon being "uptight". The fact is that Boon is playing it SMART, where E3 didn't reveal much that wasn't known before and that only a small fraction of Konquest was shown. MK:Deception will, hopefully surprise alot, and a new game needs some degree of novelty when you unwrap the protective case. Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 won't have that. Think about that.

I doubt EGM will deliver: as shown in another threat, they don't like MKD that much: it got a so-so rating. However, that's because they are annoyed that Game Informer beat out EGM for the big scoop on Deception (the one that confirmed Tanya, Kabal, Kira and others).

No, they started to hate MK before that. Read my earlier post, and you'll see.

and here in Portugal from what we read in magazines, it's almost like mk deception won't even exist, they even misspelled Boon's name, they called him Ed Boom (wtf?..losers)

a long time ago they wrote two sentences about deception, saying that it would be a future possibility, and in this month they did a coverage on e3 and they wrote a bit about deception, mainly about the puzzle and chess (yeah right...) and there were 3 pictures(omg...OOOOOOLD) the mileena render, the kobra vs ermac one and a puzzle kombat showing baraka vs mileena...I guess I have reasons to be more upset with you with these magazines...

Ok, to the original poster. Game informer is not gonna get info on MKD because they either:
1) Invited by the MK Team to give out info.
2) We're interested in getting information since they are alot of top notch titles that are supposed to come out this year.
3) They might want to wait a couple issues so that when its close to release date when there's more hype and people to buy that game. When people want the info. on the game that is coming up they would go and buy their magazine (non-subscribers).

To the Halo 2 issue here.
The reason why they have more issues on Halo 2 is because its the MOST anticipated game out right now. Face it, more people will buy Halo 2 than MKD. If you want to intrigue the consumers to buy your magazine, you will give them info. to the largest group of people that would go and buy your magazine.

On one hand I agree with you, but on another I disagree.... I was thinking the same thing when receiving my issues of PSM and Game Informer. HArdly any new info at all in the last few issues. But then I began to think... First off the game is still about 3 1/2 months from release. So that leaves quite a bit of time to divulge new info.

Second, when MK:DA was relased every one pretty much knew everything about the dame game asides from how to execute fatalities. I'm sure Boon learned his lesson on that one.

And lastly, I myself began to not mind the lack of info. Reason being, I was thinking about when MKII was released in the arcades. I knew absolutely nothing about it other than it was being released. The first time I saw it I was blown away. Baraka was bad ass. Playing as Reptile ruled. And once fatality lists started to appear, pulling them off for the first time on someone was great.

That's not to say I wouldn't like to know more about deception, that I do. However, I'm really starting to like not knowing everything I want to know. I want to be suprised again like with MKII :)

I will find you and bring you down! Nobody, i mean nobody calls Halo or Halo2 gay. It has 10 times begger everything then Mortal Kombat, except fatalities, and your lucky Im not a hardcore halo fan. I love halo
I love Mortal Kombat even more. But halo is a close second. so its not gay.

Exactly. No one has the balls to talk about anything other than Halo 2 because they want their magazine to sell. That is exactly what I DON'T want from a magazine.

I can speak my mind, and I will. I played the first Halo for about 5 minutes and was bored out of my mind. It is just like EVERY other single FPS out there, has NO differences. Same kind of guns, same everything. Point being, It's extremely hard for any FPS game to be original in its own sense.

I hate halo. Always have, always will. Now, enough about Halo, more MK talk ;)

I'll have to agree. Not trying to start a flame war here but I never understood why everyone was so crazy about Halo. I've seen the same things in other games time and time again.
