GamePro Article News.....
GamePro Article News.....
This article said something that caught my eye. Pardon me if it's old news since I haven't been keeping a super close eye on MKD.
In the GamePro article it say's "you will find 24 characters which is not including the torrent of hidden ones with roughly six moves each."
Now I knew about the 6 moves each since that was stated in the PSM a few months back but the part about there being more characters then the 24 on the select screen came as a surprise sorta.
I'm hoping we get some real good secret characters.

Torrent is a strong word, that must mean there will be a lot of secret characters. Hopefully Frost and Sonya will be hidden. Since the MK Team has already made 3D models of them, it should be easy. All they have to do is give them more special moves, one more fatality, a Hara Kiri, and another costume.
*crosses fingers*

Not to be a downer here, but "torrent" sounds a lot like press hype to me. If they new the actual number of unlockable hidden characters, they would most certainly print it. The only way then that they know that there will be a lot of unlockable hidden characters is that Midway, either through the MK team or the Midway PR department has told them that there'd be lots to unlock.
We saw the same language used in describing the krypt in MK:DA and the unlockable characters were simply the ones we knew to be on the select screen to begin with + 2 losers in blaze and mokap. The "torrent" in that situation became fan art, pictures of the MK team, and other somewhat lame and/or useless stuff. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed MK:DA, but that language strkes me as being preview hype.
9 out of 10 games previewed in any magazine almost sound like advertisements. "The designers promise oodles of extras and a veritable gold mine of secret goodies for players to discover." I made that line up, but tell me you haven't read lines like that in magazines a million times in previews.
I'm not saying that the MK team won't deliver. Far from it. I'm just saying that I seriously doubt that Gamepro has more to go on than word of mouth and promises from the creators of a game that's still months away from completion. For all we know, that torrent could become a trickle when time begins to play a factor.
I hope that there are five to seven hidden characters though, and not in the sense that MK:DA had the darkened boxes of characters we all knew were in the game. I'm talking SECRET characters like that you have to FIND somehow. The older games were much better at this. I hope that if they put hidden characters on the select screen, which is fine with me, that they don't have darkened boxes for them, but rather just add the boxes when you unlock them, or simply put the dragon logo on the box like before. Honestly, we all pretty much had the select screen figured out before MK:DA was even released.
Good find in the article though man, let's hope the words ring true in a few months time!!

Thanks^^^.
I hope it is true other they are pretty much lying since they didn't just use the word Torrent by itself. They said Torrent of secret characerts which is not including the 24(thats already one the select screen). So if there isn't at least 5 I say, then GamePro was lied to or is lying.

i hope its true and they better use dragon logos to cover up the boxes (if any). this would really be nice cuz i would have that beautiful umk3 arcade feel again. i miss those days. mk:da felt like a tekken game with fatalities. real secret characters are good.

lets hope they don't come back

I really hope that we don't have to go through that "hold down on this char." crap again. I would so much rather have an larger screen with Question Marks or Dragon Logos for the secret characters. I've never really consider Blaze and Mokap actual characters, because they weren't on the actual screen, just hidden to the side...

Well I don't think I see Johnny Cage on the Select screen so I hope he is one of the hidden characaters.

Same here. I much rather have a character select face appear and increase the selection screen. One it's easier for me since I don't have my friends asking me over and over again "how do you pick him". Also having a bigger selection screen just looks better. I had always wished that Human Smoke in UMK3 would have appeared somewhere. Too bad they didn't put a permanent dragon logo in the middle (sorta like MK1) and then just put Human Smoke under Scorpion and someone like say Ermac under Kintana.
Either way, let's hope the secret characters are good and real characters unlike Mokap and Blaze.

I here you, Shaolin Chuan! It would suck big time if the secret characters didn't have their own fighting styles, special moves, or fatalities!

If they so called have torrents of secret characters, they had better make them good, but very hard to find..like an easter egg hunt or something. For instance, going into the Quest and pestering someone by talking to them over and over until they get angry and fight you. If you beat them you unlock them in the game.
By the way there are more than just two secret characters in MK:DA.
I saw a simular article in XBN about the number of secret characters(the didnt give a specific name) and the overwhelming number of things crammed into the game.
