I can see Cruise pulling off I AM LEGEND by, let's say 70-80%. Not the full nine yards though. I think Smith is one of very few that could have made the 100% mark due to mix of humour and seriousness.

I think Reeves played Matrix just well. I don't know if Smith would have fitted into that role especially to be a nerd and then turn into hero. Reeve played it perfectly because it suited his real life character.

Trax...i agree. Cruise could have done some of it well...but not all of it. But that is a movie where the lead has to totally be on...or the movie is totally horrible. That script or a variation has been in Hollywood for sometime. Arnold S was the first name attached to it ...then Tom C. I think both of those movies would have been bad-average. Smith made this a solid movie.

As far as the Matrix...Reeves ( whom i think is a horrible actor) did a good job. But I think if Smith did it...the character changes and the script changes just a bit. Instead of a hacker nerd type....i think he would play better as a paranoid conspiracy theory hacker type. Reeves version i somewhat uncertain and very much confused. I think Smiths version could have played better of the uncertainty was replaced with a skeptism or untrust especially of authority type. It would have been a different movie...i dont know if it would have been better or worse....
