maybe it could be like the combo-weapon strings from MKD, have him do a combo and mid-combo he changes for a single move, like at the end of a combo he turns into Liu Kang to launch a flying kick for a split second to knock the opponent back to resume the fight, it could work

they're lazy because they never give what fanboys want, this is a truth and a matter of fact not a stupid complaint or ranting.
and what innovation is get out a classic move from a character?
they take off Johnny Cage split punch and EVERYONE cry at that.
they put off the green net,the cartwheel kick, leg grab,etc...for what?
evolve the character?
please go and play to Soul Calibur 4 the living proof that a broken gameplay and unoriginality at max expression mixed with a lot of money to corrupt reviewers and gaming sites could make a game "succesful".

It really just comes down to what has been the main crux of the mortal kombat series. Nobody wants to see the characters evolve. Shang Tsung is beyond the morphs, with his own unique moveset, and all anybody can seem to do is crucify the developers for trying to move forward in all aspects of the series (especially character development). The MK team has practically broken their backs to appease the "fans" and do what the "fans" feel is right for the series, instead of moving ahead, and keeping up with the times, and it's damn near killed the series. The Mortal Kombat team is often described as lazy when the amount of innovation is the series is minimal. The fact of the matter is, those same people that call them lazy are the first to cry blasphemy when a character loses a move, or goes in an unforseen direction.
The MK team prides themselves on "cruising the message boards, and seeing what the fans think and like". Here's a bit of advice for mk9, Ignore the mortal kombat boards like the plague. All the boards care about is more of the same with extra costumes.
**sorry that this became more of a rant.

I can't really tell if you're half disagreeing with me or what, but my point still stands. Mortal Kombat will never evolve so long as fans are only concerned with nothing more than what form reptile will have this game, or if Kitana has Mileena's roll.
Side note: Namco/Bandai must've had a whole fuckin seperate budget setup for good reviews, cause it got alot. Was it deserving? I don't think the game was broken beyond all measure, they just seemed more concerned with graphics and the rediculous Star Wars additions to the roster. (Apprentice/Yoda=Cheapest characters in fighting game history....or close to it)

It's called Ad Space. Didn't Eidos pull its ads from Gamespot because Gamespot gave one of their games a bad review?
That kind of thing would make a gaming site go, "Oh crap, let's give good reviews to all the companies that buy our ad space!"
I haven't really paid attention to the ads on Gamespot, so I dunno if they advertise for certain companies more than others, but it's definitely a factor.

I didn't see all that many ads for SC IV to be honest. But how does one or two "bought" reviews make up for the rest of the good reviews it received?
But crap like this is indeed why I don't trust a Gamespot review anymore.

Anymore? Haha, I never trusted them. Or IGN for that matter. They're good for news and features, but for Reviews... I might read them to know technical things. Like if the character ends up falling through the world a bunch of times, or the game freezes, etc. But as for storyline, gameplay mechanics, or any other aspects like scare factor in horror games, I don't believe anything until I play it for myself.

Yeah, I've adopted that kind of attitude myself. If people say it sucks, but it looks like something i'd like, by god, i'm gonna experience it regaurdless. You miss out on way too much, good or bad, when you go by word of mouth.

maybe if you like.. choose beforehand the character you want to morph into during the match then it could get ready to load that data or something..
I don't know anything about programming, tho.
