Just have him have a special where he morphs into the opposite character. Have a poof of smoke, flame whatever, and have his model go invisible and then have the opposite character model there.
See Boon, some practical programming for you. You can make Reptile go invisible, so not hard to just command it where one goes invisible and the other reappears.
You don't need to manipulate every polygon (that would take forever), but just have a burst or something and replace the bodies. Hell, have his morph take a lil time so he's vulnerable, or that he has to do a soul suck to pull it off.
Not happy with that?
Okay have him morph into everyone, but then have it load, and still let us fight, then maybe mid combo it'll finally load. The fighter will have to time his morphs into the fight, and could possibly pull off some devastating combos. Kinda like a delayed auto move. Just have him go into a glow or something.

Or, alternatively, pick a character and fight for a little while. Then use the menu to go back to the character select and choose a different one and fight for a little while. Then use the menu to go to the character select and choose ANOTHER character to fight with for a little while. Then construct a time machine that will take you back to an era when technological restrictions made it acceptable for a character to rely on stupid functional gimmicks to differentiate from the rest of the cast, rather than being an individually refined and developed character. THEN go back to the character select, leave your icon over Sub-Zero, press up, up, HP, LP, BLK, BLK, start, and you'll be able to play as Noob.
Mmmm, magic! Crunch!

They should really make a "Shang Tsung's Morph" thread and sticky it.

I agree with you on that one. Have a poof of smoke, flame or something . Like you said have him go invisible and appear back as the other fighter. They should really bring back the Shang Tsung morphs.
Will not work.
The morphs in the 2D era were easy because of the easily accessable ROMS to swap the models. The encrypted 3D games do not have ROMS.
You basically described how it would look, and not how it would work. The big problem is still not solved: how to easily access a vast amount of model data. What you painted was a very nice effect, however it would only drain the power necessary to bring a new model-data-move-etc. forward with software.
Shangs morphing days are gone, and to be honest, it is better so... at least now.

Or failing that; select a character and play as them. Then use the menu to go back to the character select to choose another character to play with for a while. Then construct a time machine and go back to a time when people hadn't discussed poorly thoughtout 'solutions' to the Shang Tsung morphing problem, which isn't an especially impressive addition to the fight mechanic, and start the very first thread. Then go to the character select, highlight Sonya, press up, start, and BLK, and then you'll be able to play as magenta Mileena.

magenta Mileena!!!......no....but....she is legend.
But seriously, someone listen to this man, Shang Tsung is morph-less and is all the better for it, besides.....

Morphin time is so 90's

I think the problem isn't that Shang Tsung can't morph anymore, it's that his other moves have been dumbed down, too. For his projectile, I want to see that skull on fire, and I do, so problem solved. Shang's special moves are no longer Generic Central.

Super Fishmonger Ermac > Mileena, anyways.
I wonder if there isn't some confusion about what the problems are, too.
I don't suppose in these many threads any of the strangely pro-morph people have mentioned the Kazuya/Devil real-time transformation in Tekken Tag, for an example.
I'm not especially fond of the morph in general, but I appreciate a sense of logic like the film's, that would allow him to transform into/master the special attacks of warriors whose souls he has stolen.
If you really can't stand a sorcerer who has his own individual array of attacks and fighting maneuvers, at least make him more than a glorified mirror match sampler.
Some alternate skins and locks/triggers on special moves would probably solve the problem, and contrary to MK style, connect with some kind of tangible logic, as well, because if you want another character's entire moveset for six seconds, you should probably think about going back to the character select method.

It really just comes down to what has been the main crux of the mortal kombat series. Nobody wants to see the characters evolve. Shang Tsung is beyond the morphs, with his own unique moveset, and all anybody can seem to do is crucify the developers for trying to move forward in all aspects of the series (especially character development). The MK team has practically broken their backs to appease the "fans" and do what the "fans" feel is right for the series, instead of moving ahead, and keeping up with the times, and it's damn near killed the series. The Mortal Kombat team is often described as lazy when the amount of innovation is the series is minimal. The fact of the matter is, those same people that call them lazy are the first to cry blasphemy when a character loses a move, or goes in an unforseen direction.
The MK team prides themselves on "cruising the message boards, and seeing what the fans think and like". Here's a bit of advice for mk9, Ignore the mortal kombat boards like the plague. All the boards care about is more of the same with extra costumes.
**sorry that this became more of a rant.

I don't think you understand the original post. He said allow Shang to morph into his opponent. The opponent's data is already loaded into memory, so the disc itself wouldn't need to be accessed.

I think that they were able to morph because in a tag team battle four models of charcters must be loaded in the fight so Kazua / Devil will be already loaded when you need to morph .
And Smoke,Noob and Reptile were able to morph because it is easy to hide and then reveal the same loaded model .
I love to play as Shang Tsung but I have never morphed nor even think about doing that .
Anyway I thought that I have read something about a newer abillity given to Shang instead of morphing .Can someone explain please ?

That's right. Only, the number of models is irrelevant to the function.

Chrome, it won't be hard to replace the model of the opponent when its already loaded. Morph is a bad term. More like replace.
Loading another character would be similar when 2 fighters are loaded at the start of fight, just it would be done mid fight. It took some time to load them up during MKA fighter select screen, so they can dynamically have the model change.

only a word:
bullshit!
they're lazy because they never give what fanboys want, this is a truth and a matter of fact not a stupid complaint or ranting.
and what innovation is get out a classic move from a character?
they take off Johnny Cage split punch and EVERYONE cry at that.
they put off the green net,the cartwheel kick, leg grab,etc...for what?
evolve the character?
please go and play to Soul Calibur 4 the living proof that a broken gameplay and unoriginality at max expression mixed with a lot of money to corrupt reviewers and gaming sites could make a game "succesful".

LOL. Yeah, it's all a conspiracy.

Am I the only one seeing the logical controversy here?
