I have never, EVER seen a single person on ANY board state that this fighting engine is better than another popular franchise's engine.

However... I have heard it stated many many times how this fighting engine is superior to the last several games in the MK series.

Don't put words in people's mouths.
i have heard many MANY people on this board talk about how unimportant every other aspect of the game is like nothing at all matters.

Assuming Midway lasts long enough, I would like to see them take this engine further with improvements. Building an engine takes up a lot of time. They can use that time to better it. Though, if I had my way, every MK game would have an extra two years to be worked on. So much more could be done. As for the game itself. It's not perfect, but I love it. It hits two of my life long fan loves dead center, and is generally fun. Short? Yeah, but fun. Plus, the ultimate replayability is multiplayer.

The mk vs dc forum has been somewhat less busy lately. Here is my opinion on why (Not that I was asked but this is a forum so here we go).

1. This game, no matter how good it turned out (and it turned out pretty good in most fans opinions, so much so that there are repeated calls to reuse and add to the engine even by haters), was a disappointment to hardcore mk fans. We wanted mk9 not a crossover game. The initial talk was of mk9 by Boon. When this was announced it was a shock to say the least. This was bad public relations on midway's part.

2. Crossover is announced. Fine, it is still a mk game. Any crossover Midway allows mk to be involved in has to play by mk's rules we thought. Bloody and violent. No punches pulled. Wrong. That was another disappointment added to the pile. Yes there were fatalites. Yes they actually were pretty good. Some were the best I think since mk4. But I still couldn't rip out Superman's spine and since this is mk that was and always will be a disappointment and tragedy of epic proportions.

3. Small roster. No really it is. This game has 22 characters which is about 4 too few in my opinion. However that is a matter of opinion. The game concept by it's very nature works against it. 2 sides, 2 rosters. Each one only has 10 characters. The roster seems artificially small which I feel is a valid point. If you only favor one side, you only have 10 characters to choose from which is too few and inexcusable on next gen systems where space shouldn't be an option.

4. Lack of content and secrets. The game is out and no extra arenas and no unlockable characters except 2. No secrets to fuel rumors and drum up traffic on the forums. The game is out. Play it or don't. Play online and fight your friends. Other than that there is not much to talk about. That is not necessarily a reflection on how bad or good the game is, it just is. There is not a lot of longevity to this game. It is a party game for friends on a Friday night. Nothing more. It wasn't designed for it.

Hardcore mk fans only need apply and the lack of characters and the fact that this is not cannon (thank goodness since Liu Kang is dead) means that there is not a lot to discuss. It is a shallow game made on a strong foundation that hopefully will be improved upon for another 3 games or so.
