You're not really offering any arguement other than Liu Kang is a staple...which I don't agree at all. And that's not evena good reason in itself. Liu Kang should come back because he's old? When I say Liu Kang is stale and not worth keeping, I'm talking overall. Not just story. He is so not necessary. And while I know he has his fans....from what I've seen, more people want him gone than to come back.

How was Liu Kang's gameplay so much better than it is now? He's always had the same damn moves. Even if you ignore the story, Liu Kang still is a mediorce character at best. The only that's even been good about him is that he's easy to use...which the MK team said they did on purpose. They wanted him to be a beginners' character that anyone could use no problem. Personally, I never used him. I thought he was cheap and boring. He does a glorified jumping kick, a bicycle kick, and shoots fireballs. Whee. With the exception of his dragon fatalities, his finishers have been garbage. His design is nothing to shout about. He's just another Bruce Lee homage....who's looked the same in just about every game he's been in, by the way.

Besides, the gameplay engine is supposedly going to be completely revamped for MK8. Who knows how the characters will play. So why should I want Liu Kang back for gameplay reasons when I don't even know how the overall engine is going to be?

But okay, let's say they create this fantastic top-tier fighting style that will be real fun and good to use. Why does it have to be Liu Kang's? Why not give it to a new character...who could have better special moves, an interesting design, and a decent story?

I see no reason for Liu Kang to come back.

Exactly. You pretty much covered it.
