GameSpot has published an interview they did with Midway CEO David Zucker, in which a wide variety of topics are covered, including a brief word on Mortal Kombat. From the article:

GS: What do you consider the jewels of Midway's back catalog?

DZ: Mortal Kombat is the best-selling M-rated franchise of all time with over $1 billion in sales via four major sequels since it first launched in 1992. It outsells all other M franchises such as Take-Two's Grand Theft Auto series.

Suffice it to say that Ed Boon and our Mortal Kombat team are busy at work developing the next installment, and we have every reason to believe that it will be the most compelling and innovative fighting game to hit the market when it debuts.

The rest of the interview covers a broad range of topics on how Zucker plans on reinvigorating the company, from Midway's place in the sports gaming business, to the recent hiring of John Romero and Tom Hall. To read the entire article in its entirety, click here.

Our thanks to forum/chat member Baraka_MK for the heads up on this story!

Well, I read that GS article...I'm not impressed. However, I guess I should give some merit to the fact that Midway knows what market they are targeting.

A 25 mill net influx of money? What the hell? This is the same company that has shown a 50 mill loss in ONE quarter, if I'm not mistaken.

"David Zucker: As Midway made the final transition from an arcade gaming company to a home console company in mid-2001..."

WTF 0_o....transition? If one reads the entire article he makes it sound like it was planned.

Jeeze, crazy times indeed. I hope the new CEO knows his money, because he sure as hell doesn't know his games. Well, at least he made a couple of push-backs to ensure quality titlles. Then agian, who says what shape they were in, in the first place. Bah, I really should top ranting Midway. Peace and love ya'll.

Sorry, kabal20, but I did not receive the News Lead Submission until after I had posted the story. Even then, BMK had gotten the story to me on the chatroom well before you had submitted; in fact, I was almost finished with the article before your submission was mailed.

Just for the record, if more than one person sends in a News Lead Submission or makes a post about a story before I write the article, I will give credit to all parties. However, in this case the emailed submission came in to late to be included.

Hope this helps...
