Is Jade white or black?
I believe Jade to be neither white, nor black. She seems to be a woman who is simply tanned. Perhaps with an asian structure (as the movie suggests) or of another culture. Personally I don't think that this is an important issue due to the fact that she is really Edenian (im not 100% sure). Tanya on the other hand is a woman whom I presume to be of african american descent.
Remember when Tiger Woods said he is Cablonasian? Ha ha! But seriously, both my sister and I are half black and half asian. My sister looks like a tanned white woman, where as I appear like a very light-skinned black man with slanted eyes. So bottom line: Jade could be anything as long as she keeps her staff.

So where's all your super intelligent topics at big guy?
| TheOmniOni Wrote: African, Latino, Italian, WHATEVER! This is Mortal Kombat, this is a f*cking video game. Hence if anyone needs to actually get technical here, Jade would be Edenian I believe, meaning we don't know shit about it, so drop the subject already. |
If she's Edenian and therefore not black then since Cyrax wouldn't be black either because he's a robot. Don't you think that the artists at Midway are creating human-esque characters based off of actual nationalities and ethnicities? I'm pretty sure that's what they're going for. Obviously this topic isn't THAT stupid because there is quite a bit of debate about this. Most of the people think that she's black and the other people are getting pissed because they really don't know what she is and they think that we're looking too far into it. So if debating a characters ethnic background is unintelligent but sitting around coming up with theory storylines isn't? Come on... Why not just let us discuss this without getting all pissed about it and if you DON'T like the idea that we're talking about it then don't open the thread to begin with and don't read it second of all.

I have no idea if Jade is black or white, either way I always thought she was cool.
And just for the record, for a long time I had no idea that Traci Bingham was black until I heard her say so (I just thought she was extremely tan)...so sometimes looks CAN deceive.

Jade in the pic with Kabal looks South Asian to me. She is, granted, very dark, but a lot of South Asian people have that very dark color as well, her features just aren't black, but more SA.

Hmmm, I don't see how anybody can say that she doesn't have African-American facial features anyway, we've never even seen any clear pictures of her face anyway. In the screen shots she is sideways and her face is not very distinguish-able. And in the video we only saw her in puzle kombat, in which she was wearing a mask. Hell, Jade could be Black, South American, Latina, Dark-Colored Edenian, Asian, Iraqi for all I give a shit, lol. Let's all rejoice and be glad that she's at least in the freakin' game!
Temp, I think you make a great point about ethnicity being more than skin tone. You couldn't tell whether Jade's 'black' just by looking at the colour of her skin. And I agree, she never looked black to me either. However, the people at Midway have a tradition of completely fucking around with MK characters' ethnicity. Sub-Zero was clearly Chinese in the first two games, but has been white since MK3. Kung Lao was played by a latino guy in MK2 and 3, and looked like Michael Jackson in MKDA, despite being obviously Chinese. Shang Tsung, Li Mei, Kenshi and Scorpion all look remarkably caucasian, etc, etc. The list goes on.
I'm not out to prove that Jade's black (I really couldn't care less), and ultimately it just doesn't matter. We'll never be able to know, and there wouldn't be much of a point doing so anyway. IMO this is a pointless debate that's not going to lead anywhere. :P

Jade is not black. She's edenian. Shes a fictional character. It doesnt matter what color of skin she is. Just because they are a bit darker doesnt make them latinos, indians, black and so on. Jade and Tanya are edenian. Period.

wow this topic can cause some racist comments

Listen, you can't say Jade is Indian or Mexican (different races with brown variations) because she's too dark. Usually in games, they give the characters that are mexican and indian lighter brown hues...so you'll know. And they always give black characters dark brown hues. Prime example in Deception...Nightwolf who si indian. He's brown, but not too brown to where you think he's black. Now, when the game comes out watch...select both Jade and Nightwolf and you'll clearly see the color differance. Jade is like 2 shades darker than Nightwolf, yet and still she's not black...bullsh*t.
As for Tanya, well we still don't have REALLY good shots of her. You can't use that black and white pic from trailer 3 as an example because the color is distorted. Plus, even the name Tanya is that of a black person.

I think Jade is black. Sorry, I wouldn't say 100% for sure she is, because you can't really tell without checking out her family tree and that likely requires a non-member of the family to higher a lawyer and shit like that so screw that... Anyhow, her skin is dark, her face is far too blury in that picture to say anything about her features (it looks like smeared paint on a painters pallette guys, hardly possible to indicate any sort of ethnic traits).
She is certainly not white, that's for sure.
Given the history on most games and the tones and such used for black characters, Jade's skin resembles most black characters and facial structure would not hold up as any sort of evidence for a few reasons.
1) like skin color, it is not 100% related and people who are completely black can and do have features that resemble other races.
2) we haven't ever seen her face. It's been masked or just... not clearly visible.
I say black, and the only other option in my opinion is asian and only because of the movie. Also perhaps asian cause I'm pretty sure jade stone is like sacred in some parts of asia (could be wrong at that, sorry if that somehow offends people)
