Do you think if they didn't spend 400,000$+++ on the movies the overall performance of the game would be better? Im starting to think that, lots of games out their don't have intro movies that are that damn good. MK7 should chill out on the intro and use the money and TIME to make a better game like Dead or Alive.

I like MK: DA and Deception opening intro and glad they are in there. I don't know much about making games , but I think a certain team handles FMV moves while other groups focus of different parts of the game. Opening movies just to me just should be explain key events that take place just before events take place. In our case of MK, it should be key events that set things into motion.

No, the intro's are amazing, everyone loves them.
And to the user above, MK is MK BECAUSE its unique. If it had the same detail and idea's as other fightin games, it just wouldnt be the game we all love and know, and we'd surely have complaints about it.
Yeah the money used on intro's could be spent elsewhere, but then again, we could be here all day/nite sayin "the time spent on making konquest could of given us more fatalities for the kombatants" and "the money spent on putting the game on XXX and XXX could have been spent adding more characters"
We'd be here all day, this is a non issue if you ask me.

I agree 100%.

I think that they should definatly be kept in.
The deception FMV is utterly amazing, comparing with the likes of ninja gaiden and halo2.

I didn't think the intro was that fantastic, but there's alot of things in my opinion that arn't great about MK:D. Alot of MK:D seems to be about fluff, its all just a bunch of filler around the great MK storyline and characters. Although I'm enjoying the game alot, i think the MK team could have spent more time on the fighting engine, and less time on kontent, I mean i would have much prefered a proper RPG with (at least) semi-decent graphics, shipped as its own game, rather than some boring repeditive crap, that you HAVE to play if you want to unlock stuff in the real MK game. Meanwhile, there's things I love about MK:D that they added, like deathtraps, and multi-storied levels, and puzzle kombat which if given some serious upgrades could have been shipped as its own game. Too much time/money was spent on making this game some kind of MK shrine, and not enough time on making it a solid fighting game.
Comon Boon! don't add unblockable throws if you can reverse them! And what were the testers thinking when they let the dairou's tombstone drop pass? I think the balance testers need to be fired-- And its so obvious that the "breakers" were just thrown in at the last minute, with very little thought put towards them. So yes, I 100% agree aswell.

Yeah, except Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2 look like that during gameplay.

Maybe ninja gaidens gameplay, but not halo 2's.

Good point M_F_S, I'm on the fence on this one...
I loved MKDA and MKD"s intro, BUT think the gameplay needs improving. And that 400K (I heard MKDA's was $500K) would no doubt help...
MK4's intro was cool imo, for MK7 they should make one like that, and use some of that saved money for added gamplay (copy MK4's intro, not the gameplay!!!)
That's what I'd do.

How do you want the gameplay changed?
Faster, slower, more DOA3 like(heaven forbid), less combos?

fuck no. the Deception intro rocked. The people who work on the videos and the people who work on the actual gameplay are two completely different teams.

Highly detailed? Not even, kid.
Onimusha 3 has a detailed movie. Midway can't even SEE Capcom. Midway's intro videos aren't even on Capcom's radar.

Was the intro $400,000 good?
I could go to a 2 hour movie and pay less than 10 bucks...
And although the movie team and gameplay team are different, Midway could've given the gameplay team more money. I mean, an intro doesn't make a game good, gameplay does...

I thought the intro was awesome, and it was well worth it. Aside from characters sharing too many moves and styles from past games and characters, the only thing that annoys me about MKD is the Konquest mode.
I have no interest in it, the gameplay for it is boring for the most part. But theres really not much I can do about it if I want to unlock things. I'd prefer the Konquest mode for MKDA along with simply earning coins to open krypt items.
I there's people out there who feel the opposite, and really enjoy the new Konquest style, which is fine. They'll never make everyone entirly happy, but honestly, if they didn't do spiffy intro movie, I somehow doubt there'd be much difference to MKD overall.

Well I doubt that having an intro of $5 would have made the gameplay any better. The fact is boon doesn't care about anything besides making money he will throw out a piece of crap with a ton of extra's on it knowing the fan boi's will buy it up all while screaming it's the best fighting game ever and at the same time complaining that people only use the same move over and over again and bo rai cho/dairou is cheap.
One of the best games ever made period was tobal 2 for psx. It had a full rpg mode AND deep fighting system. Mk dev team stole the idea from tobal but implemented poorly so instead of being anything like a rpg its more like follow the leader. I laugh at all the people trying to find characters who make special appearances or freak out about beating shang tsung or somebody else. The majority of the time all it does is give you koins that you probably won't need.
As for the testers go the thing is boon fired a tester for speaking up about flaws in the game. I think it went something like this.
Boon:so how is the game any problems?
Tester_01:well BRC is pretty broken and there is a bad delay after a lot of moves so most likely people will find one fighting style and one or two moves in that style and stick with it. The breaker system really is sort of half-assed and not all that useful. There are a few infinties and it's far from balanced.
Boon:Hmmm very interesting but you are wrong. Sorry you are fired here is your check. How about the rest of you anything you've found wrong?
Tester_02:No mr boon the game is a FLAWLESS VICTORY for your genius sir.
Tester_03:It's easily the best game I've ever played Tekken and virtue fighter are pale comparisons to this game.
Boon:Very good thats exactly what I thought. You will find a nice bonus on your next check.

Don't get me wrong, I loooooved the intros but they spent too much money on them. They need to put money and time into actual gameplay.
I specially don't care for deatil, it is the directors work that count.
the greatest example for this is the RED ALERT 1 briefing videos. Compared to the cheezy Red Alert 2 sequences, they rock the world!
I don't care about CapCom or Tekken, their directoring work is sooo average (altough there are several good videos in the tekken series)
Also, Midway hasn't got that kind of larger budget

I really don't get it how an intro movie on a game can cost THAT much! What makes it so expensive?
It was real good though, but if they spend that much time and money on an opening intro, they should try and make the endings like that, but I suppose that would take a LONG time and cost A LOT more money then.
(I liked it how Shang Stung and Raiden died then came back to life for some reason, found it normal when Shang Stung got back up, but when Raiden came back, I started laughing a bit)
