Some of you have seemed upset about the character choices in MK: Deception, but they all have a reason for being in the game. The issue of why a certain character is in the game seems to pop up everywhere, and I want to settle it with a few of the reasons why I think they are in the game.

Tanya - In her ending, it shows her leading Liu Kang into a trap. Yes, I know they didn't use that ending, but in her ending, you saw how deceiving Tanya can be. She used all these excuses like "Raiden has sent me to you!" It is completely legible as to why Tanya is in the game. She can manipulate people into thinking that she's one of the good guys when, in fact, she isn't.

Kabal - If you remember in MK:3, he broke the code of the Black Dragon and decided to join the forces of Earth to destroy Shao Kahn. The Black Dragon didn't want him back after he betrayed them by colliding with the Earthrealm forces.

Kenshi - The reason Kenshi was blinding was because of Shang Tsung's deceiving manipulation. He led Kenshi to a chamber beneath the House of Pekara (supposedly) and had him unleash the souls of his ancestors. Kenshi is the only confirmed member of the Special Forces thus far.

Li Mei - Okay, so she hasn't been 100% confirmed that I know of, but she has a very high percentile. She should be in the game because she was basically forced to enter the Deadly Alliance tournament in an attempt to free her people. Little did she know that Shang Tsung had already sent their souls into the bodies of dead, mummified soldiers, and so was her soul in her ending. She has a legitament reason for being in Deception because she had no idea that she would be trapped inside one of the Dragon King's soldiers.

Liu Kang - Yes, I'm disappointed too, but think about it. He got killed because he was double-teamed. That is a good reason to come back for vengeance. Liu Kang thought he had it made in that final fight against Shang Tsung. Did he know Quan Chi was lerking in the distance? Obviously not. He's a good candidate to come back into Deception.

Sub-Zero - He has been deceived probably moreso than any other character in the entire game. 1st, he was deceived by Scorpion. That is why he killed him the first time, afterall. Secondly, he was deceived by his Lin Kuei clan. They were transforming their battalions into cybernetic ninjas. There was no way he would be a part of that. They, then, caught his one friend and ally Smoke, and turned him into a robot. In doing that, they sent Cyrax, Sektor, and Smoke on a mission to hunt him down, and kill him for betraying his clan. He was also deceived by Quan Chi because Quan Chi made Scorpion think that Sub-Zero killed his race when in fact, Quan Chi did it himself. Lastly, Sub-Zero was betrayed by his own student Frost. Her true intention was to become grand master herself. She stole his medallion and became consumed by her freezing powers.

Those are just a few of the characters people are skepticizing over. Just because you personally don't like them doesn't mean they don't have to be in the game. They have valid reasons for being there. All you have to do is find them. I know I didn't put everyone, but those were just a few of the ones I've heard a lot about. Thanks for reading! smile Post your thoughts.

I don't put as much thought into ANYTHING like that-
I'm too stooooopid.
In every new MK, some characters
have to go, some stay, and new characters
have to be introduced-
If we had the same fighters every time it would be a little bit dull wouldn't it?

Some people are dissapointed about absent characters
and some are happy etc...

Cant please everyone

Good job Michelle, It makes perfect sense that in a game themed by Deception, that the characters included would be those who have been either the source or the victim of major dececptions. Again Nice work.

that was cool michelle_the_belle i thought it made good sense what you were saying,but...

if bo rai cho does turn out to be one of the playable characters there is NO valid reason i would accept from anybody why that useless, unpopular pile of s**t is in there instead of johnny cage, sonya, raiden etc

Excellent thread!

Not only those reasons, but also:

Those classics have only been in 1 or 2 games!!! they NEED a chance! And this game is just perfect for it.

Scorpion: Soul back for revenge

Liu Kang: Soul back for revenge

They had to take Scorpion's concept in order to make that goofy little bastard interesting...

I have to agree here -- My MK:DA experience was spoiled by this sack of s**t. If they wanted a grandmaster in the game they should have designed wisely. _ I HOPE HE DOES NOT make it in DECEPTION.

I'm still thinking (maybe hoping against hope) that big Bo only appears in Konquest and the chess game. I think he's one of those characters who'd work better in the side story. There are far more deserving and important characters (where's Kung Lao?) and Bo's "humour" got boring after 30 seconds.
Thanks, everyone who enjoyed this thread. I felt that this had become a big issue that needed to be addressed on the forum. Thanks again!

About Bo' Rai Cho, if he IS a playable character, he could have something to do with why Liu Kang is back. He was Liu's teacher, afterall. Maybe Liu, as a ghost, feels like he failed his master by losing at the hands of Shang Tsung. I'm still trying to figure him out, but I'm sure he's there for a reason. He would be a good person to follow through in Konquest. He could play the role as a guide.

But yeah, I'm still trying to figure him out, but don't flame him yet.

Excellent thread Michelle_the _Belle! The reasons you've come up with are great and I'm sure that it is based along these lines, especially for someone like Tanya, that they are in this game.

Great job!

I'll add this to my stickied thread.

Where are you getting at with those looks, TomTaz? tongue

I just feel like posting another character's reason for being in the game. Sindel has been getting a lot of talk lately, and I'm sort of bored.

Sindel: Way back in MK:3 she committed suicide and was transformed into Shao Kahn's dark queen. Her husband Jerrod had been murdered, and she had no recollection of her own daughter Kitana. Shao Kahn had made her become a trecherous person. She may be in the game because of what he did to destroy her family.

Sindel has a pretty obvious story. Tgrant, I loved yours about Tanya taking over her throne. That would fit in nicely.

Hate to disappoint you, but there's a screenshot - not concept art, an actual screenshot - within that X-box interview the other day that clearly Shows Bo' Rai. He's in.

You know who I'm curious about more than anyone else at the moment? Nightwolf. I actually liked him back in MK3 (although I felt his character design could have been a bit better). But, ponder it as I may, I can't come up with a personal reason for him entering the fray again. Any ideas?

And yes, excellent thread, Michelle!
Thanks, Shadaloo!

Let's see. A long time ago, certain Indian tribe members were angry when one of their fellow members went off to war with the "white people". Maybe Nightwolf betrayed his tribe by entering into the tournament. I would have to agree that his story is probably weaker than the others, but he did have a connection with Liu Kang and Raiden. Maybe he can tie in somehow with them. Who knows? Thanks again, everyone!

Oh I like that story! smile

Actually; i have alwyas liked nightwolf ever since Mk3. He has so much potential as a character and he was definitely a deadly warrior back in those days.

Now I hear Nightwolf will use TAE KWON DO. If thats true, heck, he might end up being one of the most powerful characters of this game!!!
