I have no idea how many of you have played "Wrath Unleashed" but I believe many of it's good qualities could be used in MKD's chess (for lack of better description) mini-game.

Basically 2 to 4 sides fight for domination over the land (or realm) and win by either defeating the other team leaders or capturing a certain number of temples.

Teams would have some kind of magician therefore making characters strong in magic, the likes of Shang Tsung, very important. Some of this Magicians abilities include changing the land-type (these are in individual squares by the way) to that which is most advantageous to the team, binding opponents, transporting allies long distances and even resurrecting slain allies.

When 2 opponents meet on the same square they fight. Depending on the land type and which team it is most suited to, one of the fighters can be given various advantages. For example damage reduction for the "Home" fighter, or weapon taken away from the "away" fighter before the fight. All kinds of things could be employed here.

Fatalities could come into play big-time also, in that if you perform a fatality then that character can not be resurrected. However if they are successful in performing "Hari Kiri" then they can be bought back to life by the teams magician.

If done well, this mini-game could be a very fun and strategic side-game in MK Deception and also an awesome online challenge against players throughout the world.

I'm actually an avid chess player.. I think that the new system could really work.

Considering that it looks like you can place any character all along the board, I don't think it will be much like regular chess. It's going to be it's own game, considering that the players fight in an arcade-like battle..

from what I understand , this game is going to be like the Classic game "Archon". If you never played it get a NES Emulator and the Archon Roms, or go to www.homeoftheunderdogs.com , and you can get the archon 2 for pc (btw its legal and free because its abandon ware,).
Archon is similar to chess, with each peice having certain movement traits and attack advantages. Each team also have a wizard, who can bring back a dead peice, warp a peice, trap a peice ect. Additionally the board constantly changes its shades of color going from light to dark giving each team feild advantages back and fouth.
TO the original poster, I havent played Wraith Unleashed yet, but from how you describe it, MK:Deceptions "Chess" style game should be very similar. I personally think this could be the best online aspect of the game. Being able to create an entire army of sub zero's or an army or create the whole earth warriors vs. dragon king and his army scenario is gonna be real cool.

Spot on dude, all that you say.

These features are what would set this minigame far and above chess. Chess is just an inspiration for this nothing more.

"Wrath Unleashed" was based on "Archon" by the way.
