"Although Midway recently confirmed that the latest instalment in the 22 million selling Mortal Kombat series will make it to GameCube - complete with two exclusive features - they were quick to add that that version won't be appearing in Europe. This is a shame, as even though Deception isn't going to be stunningly innovative it does appear to right the wrongs found in its predecessor.
Like before you can change between two fighting styles, wield a weapon, and there are tons of unlockables. There are a few new characters, including the return of Baraka, and improved visuals, but what got our attention were the imaginative arenas.
One setting is a prison featuring various familiar faces behind bars (Sonya and Johnny Cage, for example), another is a paradise island which constantly changes to a twisted version thereof and back (the palm trees change into giant snakes, for instance), and there's a swaying pirate ship with breakable windows.
The version we played was 80 percent complete, and we managed to almost finish it in 20 minutes of play. Near the end of the game you have to fight Noob Smoke - some MK followers may spot a running joke there - which is two characters in one, a bit like the Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros Melee. One moment he's Smoke, the next Noob, or a bit of both. It's quite a challenging battle.
The difficultly level is cause for concern though - the opponents at the top of the progress ladder merely block and duck more, rather than using more sophisticated attacks, but it isn't finished so there is still time to rectify this.
To add a bit of extra depth and variety, two mini-games are present - Mortal Kombat Chess and a simple Columns-like puzzler. Both can be played online and proved able timewasters.
Midway aren't about to reinvent the wheel, but we have no problem saying that Deception is a solid update of what was arguably the best game in the series for many years."
Your thoughts on this less than spectacular review. His review was posted today.

Sounds exactly like any preview we've read and I didn't expect anything different. DA was the best game since MK2 and Deception takes everything that made DA great and beefs it up.
Yeah, im getting pretty sick of reviews... as long as it's a fun game and is online, fuck everyone els, we can take up long hours of freetime online battling it out just like back when arcade were actually a place to go and have fun, and to me fun and replay is what matters most. Let the kombat begin!

That must certainly be wrong. Because if this turns out to be like that...i ́ll be.....
Oh my i ́ll be angry...and disappointed.
Someone needs to e-mail midway and ask.

It didn't sound that bad to me. It uses the same engine just improved so I wouldn't expect big changes. It is also on a not complete game so you get the idea. Noob Smoke must be the Sub-boss. Thats a big change from the crazy big guys were usually get.

Perhpas calling midway and asking about this very issuye maybe beneficial to find out if it is in fact a rumor.
I can ́t call midway. First off, I live in Sweden so it would be very expensive. And second we once got hacked by some modemhijackers and we had to pay a large phonebill from someone calling to someone in spain.(however this got sorted out because this happened to many people so we didn ́t have to pay) but when we thought we had to my father blocked all phonecalls outside of sweden, norway and finland(relatives), So I can ́t even call. but you can;)
and that bill was around 600 us dollars(6000 swedish crowns"kronor")

It doesn't matter since the Freeloader exists. With the Freeloader you can play almost all NTSC games (both Japanese and US) on a PAL GC. Also the game will probably be cheaper in US than it would have been in EU so I don't see a problem.
Jhonny I live in Sweden too, just buy a Freeloader and import the game. Won't cost that much.
