Hi there..
In the older MK games I knew every special move, every combo and practically all fatalities.
Then MKDA came out and I didn't like its complexity for the sole reason that I couldn't remember all the moves and combos. It was just too much.. I thought it was really annoying when I tried to give my opponent 'just' an hard punch or kick and then to find out that I pressed the wrong button or forgot to hold back or up..In MKDA played only with a few characters cause I just couldn't remember all the moves..and I got tired of it.
So I'm not looking forward that much to MKD.. It looks awesome but I think I'll only 'master' 3 or 4 characters. And I fear (like MKDA) that none of my friends will want to go though the pain of learning the moves either. (playing 'live' friends is still more fun that playing online)
SO... How many characters can you master?? Do you think it's getting too much to remember?
I'd like your thoughts,
Alan

I love how they gave us something new,I believe the problem here is you're not focusing or like the game very much.If you like playing it you'll learn quickly but if you don't it will be hard too adapt too it,practice hard in konquest, don't rush anything and you'll soon learn it because learning comes by practicing.

MK too complex??? lol there's nothing complex about dial-a-combos.
most of the combos were useless as there was always one combo they was more useful than all the rest, so you didn't need to learn that many.
I'll only go through a few characters in real detail as no don't need to know that many to compete in all the modes.

lmao MK:DA? Complex? Its a goddamn dial-a-combo system! Pick a fighter. Look through their styles for a combo that's easy to pull off, yet damaging and makes the opponent set up for a stun. Use it over and over. Viola! You've mastered MK:DA's "complexity."
Without a manual combo system (MK1 and II had manual combo systems, but it usually involved the corner), Mortal Kombat won't even be the slightest bit complex. You can repeat the same combo over and over again, and cheese your way to victory. I'm hoping Deception actually makes use of all of the combos that the move list gives us, or we'll all be playing Deadly Alliance 2.0.
If that's the case, I can easily master all of the characters. (For some reason, despite being worst fighter in DA, Cyrax was my best fighter) If this is also the case, the online function will be a joke. Fighters who understand how to use such a half-assed combo system will easily annihilate all other players. Hopefully by the time Deception comes out, we'll know that the combo system has been tweaked greatly, allowing mostly ALL of the move list to actually be used.

I think if you're a somewhat serious player, it's not that hard to remember the proper combinations... Certainly so if most of them are useless and don't need any remembering because they, well, suck.
The only thing mastering all styles takes is time and patience, but in this respect Mortal Kombat (even Deadly Alliance) is very rewarding.
Cheers,
VQ

I'm going to master Ermac, Sektor and Noob Saibot

I'll be mastering Sindel, Mileena, Baraka, Ermac, Tanya and Ashrah! There'll be more too.
And it's not hard to remember the moves and combos. It's really easy. I had fun learning the different combos. Try to focus on learning them as a positive rather than a negative and try and learn so much at a time. Not everything at once.

From the reactions I get that most of you don't think the combo system is complex.. You're completely right!
I agree that pulling of combo's is real easy. It's true, it's just a dialling system and I have no trouble whatsoever. My point however that it's just too much to remember: about 20 characters*3 styles is about 60 'longest' combos alone per style + the branch combos..pffff..
Perhaps I could manage to remember all those if I liked MKDA more than I did, mainly because its lack of speed. I hope that next to its depths, MKD will offer enough speed and ease of use of the uppercuts and roundhouses that at least *I* got fond of..

Why would you want to remember them all?
You don't have to learn anymore than a quarter of each style's combos to be any good.
the majority of them are useless

O_O So, uh, where do you live? >_> <_<
Hey you guys... :)
Well, to be sincere, I think I wouldn't want to master lots of characters. I usally pick two or three:
MK1 - Scorpion & Sub-Zero
MK2 - Scorpion, Mileena & Sub-Zero
MK3/Trilogy - Scorpion, Noob, Ermac, Sektor, Cyrax
MK4 - Scorpion & Fujin
MKDA - Scorpion & Shang Tsung (LOVE the Crane style)
Can you tell I like Scorpion? Hehe!
As for MK:D, I'll have to wait and see the fighting styles and stuff. Because, to give you an example, I love Cyrax but I didn't like his styles that much... so I didn't master him. So, I think I'll wait and see... :)

Ya it was hard to remember them all but easy to remember a few. I'll don;t know who I'll master until I play the game and see whose all in it. At the start of the game it'll be nightwolf

Yeah the thing I liked about MKDA was that you could learn all moves for all characters. I hope the same applies to MK Deception and at the same time agree that they need to all be useful, particulalry for online play.
I think Kombo Breakers and Uppercuts are a step in the right direction in terms of beating dial a Komboers.
Time will tell I guess.

I am keen to be competitive with all fighters.
If someone is the worlds best Sub-Zero user for example well they are just that and good for them.
BUT - If I see someone online playing Random Select and showing consistency with any fighter given him or her, they will really earn my respect.

All the ninjas I will master and the rest of the fighters will be near mastered.
The only reason not all of the fighters will be mastered is the same reason as the 2-D games. I pick the ninjas more then anybody and thus they get fully mastered while the others get mastered, but without practice on everybody everyday, there can be slight flaws in my fighting skills with them.

With Mk:DA, I mastered one character at a time. I first picked Sub-Zero and completed Konquest and then played with him for a few weeks. I didn't even think about picking another character.
Then once I had mastered every move, combo and completed the game on hard with subzero. I moved on to Scorpion and did the same thing with him.
By the time I mastered 7 characters I had forgot how to play with Sub-Zero. but once the Round starts and you start to fight, it's like riding a bike. You never forget. It's kinda like the old MK games or a Street Fighter game; you never really forget how to play 'em.
I would like to say I've mastered every MK:DA character but I HATE some of 'em.
(Hsu Hao, Jax,Bo' Rai Cho, Mavado and Reptile)
I just completed Konquest and I ain't touched 'em since.
With MK:D I think I'll do the same. Pick one Character at a time and master him/her then more on to the next.
The Order.
1. Sub-Zero (well, just the new moves)
2. Scorpion (same as above)
3. Ermac
4. Sindel (cuz I loved her in MK3)
5. Mileena
6. Baraka
Those are the characters I can't wait to play with and master but I probably wont keep to that order. Lol

There were alot of moves but just break it down, you don't have to learn them all at once. All the moves aren't useless I use all of them just a different move for a different situation.
Combos are a lot easier but it's more fun if you juggle. Mix it up a bit or it gets boring.
First player I will master is Sub Zero, then Quan Chi(hoping) if not Ermac, Smoke and Hotaro. Then who ever.

I'll master a few of them. With the old ones, there's always a slight adjustment in the new ones. So, I'm gonna try to master all new characters first. Most likely starting with Skab, Ben, Kira and Ashrah. After those 4, I'll probably work on the classics, like Nightwolf, Ermac, Noob, Mileena and Baraka. I'm going to play all of them naturally, but there's something about new characters that intrigues me.

I'll master Nightwolf first. Also Sindel, Baraka and one of the newbies.

I'll probably do similar to what that other person said: master 1 character (probably Ermac), then go back and do it again with another (probably Hotaru). Eventually, I'll be good with most, if not all, characters.
