yeah its sad to see sites and magazines praise mkd for the worst reasons. but it is gamepro. in fact the only respected site/magazine/awardshow ive seen give mkd fighting game of the year is gamespot. gamepro and the spike tv videogame award show (which is a disgrace to games and gamers) suck. ign gave the award to a game that actually deserves it, doau, and even said mkd is nothing compaired to it. teamxbox also gave the award to doau. oh well, i would say fuck these awards, but midway and boon are going to get a big head and wont feel like they need to really work on the fighting engine for mk7.

No it doesn't deserve to be the best. MKD had an OK fight engine but it was boring after a while same ol stages in Puzzle Chess took forever and Konquest was alright. USing the characters moves over and over again got boring and their moves should've been more dynamic. Each stage should've had a death trap also.

id be more happy about it being voted the best if the game was actually good and deserving of the award. unfortunatly it is half assed and boring . all these awards do is tell boon "good job. no need to improve the fighting aspect of the game, just keep giving us fatalities and minigames." i dont see why mkd keeps getting these awards even though there are many better fighting games that came out this year.

I SO AGREE WEn u said that u have to earn something in order to get it, u are so correct.....but i dunno, i dont know a lot about fighting engines or watever mainly becuz im not a "gamer" i only play mortal kombat...so i shud just bequiet on that, but to me (and i can only speak for myself) i felt that deception was a decent game and i think it did deserve it even if it had a few flaws.....

Glad its winning so many awards. It is a very good fighting game and provides weeks of entertainment and is generally fun so it deserves it in my book. Plus it is fun seeing certain people get all frustrated cos its winning awards, haha...

Actually,mkd's flaws were in the hit detection and the broken stuff that can be done... dial-a-combo does not allow innovation, true, but it disallows button mashing as well... anyone who palys doau or tekken and touches their heart when they speak knows that tekken and doau are button mashing games for those who do not know how to play. Why learn moves when u can just mash buttons??? Of course everyone says that if a given player is a pro he would always find a way to defeat the button mashing noob, but how many times have we seen luck triumph over pedigree?? who here has never lost to someone we consider to be worse than us... The ery fact that a button masher causes a seasoned player to stretch himself and his wits just to get through already shows flaws in tekken and doau... Basically, doa has the same system as mkd, with bouncy babes thrown in and a few counters here and there... Mkd definitely has its flaws, but to two people who are just out to have fun, this is prob a much more fun game than doau... just because a game has flaws does not mean we become vindictive... I say mkd deserves it this time round for trying to be as much fun as it can, but has to improve next time round... boon may rest on his laurels after winning. true, but if shaolin monks does even half of what i think it is capable of, and the tag systen plays out well in mk7, then some people around here should be eatin humble pie... told u so...

DOA is a little on the masher friendly side but Tekken is far from a masher.The only charcter in Tekken that is masher friendly is Eddy Gordo thats why people who are new to Tekken like him.But other then him combos,counters,throws all take timing and skill.MKD is an ok game it's cool for a while but it is also very shallow half the moves are usless if not some of the stances altogether.The defense or lack there of sucks,wepons are to strong with almost no weakness.MKD has alot of problems but yes it is still fun,but best fighter of the year?

Except they knew nothing about intensity and technical sides, I go with the statement: yes, MKD deserves to be first. Why? Despite the broken engine and the buggy glitches, this game has the best feeling and aura!

DOA and Tekken lost their charms majority for me, becouse they are so repetitive.

In Tekken's case at least, it's repetitve because you're looking for the wrong things in it. The simplest way of explaining it is like this:

MK: Casual Gamer's fighting game.

Tekken: Fighting game fan's fighting game.

If you're looking for the kind of things that you'd be impressed by in MK, then you're bound to find it repetitive, because those aspects of MK won't be found in a Tekken game.

The issue we have is whether mkd deserves fighter of the year... And the issue most of u have is with the engine... Since most of you all will willingly admit that doa is a masher, and takes little skill, and since doau is like the only other game you guys put in contention, is thast not a bit of a self-contradiction???` slamming mkd's engine and yet choosing doau when doau is a masher...
which brings me to what some guy said about mkd's stances. As in every fighting game, some stances are obviously more powerful than others... The same applies to why akuma is more powerful than dan... get over it. NO fighting game has characters that are exactly equal.. Then he says weapon systems are incredibly broken, which is easy to understand seeing that there is increased damage and range.. Of course, there is this little drawback of slower recovery and increased received damage. If the genius who claimed that weapon stances are broken can prove his claim, then maybe mkd does not deserve to win, both of which will not happen...
Which brings us to tekken. U see, the drawback of any game with innovative combos is that mashing WORKS.. period. it does not matter if skill is needed to execute combos, cos if a person presses enough buttons in the required time frame, then something is going to happen... Eddy is maybe more of a masher friendly fighter, but even fighteres like hwaorang are prone to mashing.
Which brings us to the fun factor... What are computor or console games for?? Fun.. corrrect... Vf is prob the mjost technical fighter around, with little space for mashing. bUT Iit is about as interesting AS sitting around watching grass grow... Do not diss mk cos it is in essence a fun game.. Take away the broken moves some people have and we have a fine game on our hands, and with mk7 and hopefully the coming to fruition of all that we feel would improve the game, mk will win again, and there is nothing doa tekken or anyone can do about it..

Except that MK7 will have the same engine(and probably glitches too) as MKDA/D. What you said seems to depend on the idea that MK will improve; it won't.

First of all any geniunely good Tekken player will never, ever be beaten by a button masher, I myself have never claimed that I am the best in the world, but I will never, ever be beaten by a masher on Tekken.

Secondly you say that computer games are played for fun, not everyone thinks that, and Tekken and VF are games that support these people who aren't casual gamer's, in fact the fighting game genre in itself is not for people who just play games because they're "fun"

Thirdly and probably most importantly you tell us not to diss mk because of two reasons:

1. because mainstream casual players have fun on games even though they themselves don't know how to judge if it is a good fighting game.

2. a bunch of mainstream casual gamer's websites who know as little about fighting games as the readers of the site give MK an award.

But just before that, you said VF was boring because of it's technical aspects...

Do you not realise that the technical aspect along with how it lets the player use his/her own skill on the fighting game is what it's quality is judged on?

Not what pointless mini-games it has. Not how good the story that goes along with it is. Not a bunch of in-game cutscenes that you have no control over (fatalities). Not because there's a certain amount of blood is the game.

I'm sure all the fighting game fans out there including myself aren't playing these fighting games so that you and these mainstream sites can try and tell us we're judging them wrong.

I really don't care what anyone says. I HAVE seen "pros" beaten by button mashers in Tekken. I myself have button mashed my way to the top in Tekken 5 with that Wesley Snipes guy (whatever the crap his name is). I've SEEN it done many times, and done it myself. MK you REALLY have to know what you are doing, or you are screwed.
Does it require work? Absolutely. I will NOT argue the fact that Tekken is more polished. But no 3d fighter to date, NOT ONE, has the special moves and projectiles that MKD has. PERIOD. That ALONE calls for a different engine from the others, and different playing style.
And yes, I do believe MK7s engine will change, just because of past trends. Every two games or so the MK team does a major overhaul. This will probably be the case with 7.

2. you don't have to know what you're doing at all in MK, you just have to know which dial-a-combo will result in a cheesy infinite combo.

3. Projectiles being firing forwards in a 3D game is useless until major improvements are done.

1. No, sorry. These were people well known in the place for beating the crap out of anyone who came across them. They met a few button mashers, and got seriously pissed because they were getting romped by beginners. Please dont assume that because I like MK I dont know what I am talking about. I have been playing these games for over 11 years now. I think I know what I am talking about by now, and know what I see when I see it happen. You were not there, so you really cannot call these people garbage.
2. You just kinda contradicted yourself there. You said first you don't need to know what you are doing at all to play MK, then you say you need to know combos. Which is it? Knowing the special moves, what strikes do what, and what combos do what is essential to playing the game. How much of that does a newbie know? That's right...not much. How much does he need to know? More than he knows now. How much does a noobie need to know to mash in tekken? Not much. Much less than MK.
3. Huh? lol I have won a LOT of games with projectiles. Even if they do not connect, they act as a detterent, and another roadblock for an opponent to overcome and consider. Don't say they are useless. If they were, nobody would use them, now would they? But hey, I see them used a LOT. And effectively.

1. Exatly, they were well known "in the place" but still crap. Anyone who is supposed to be good are as crap as the button mashers they are beaten by, if they were truly good they wouldn't have been, my assumpion was not only correct, but also tells me that you've never seen a good Tekken player before.
2. I didn't contradict myself, knowing combos and knowing 1 dial-a-combo for an infinite are completely different things. 1 is something that doesn't envolve skill like in MK, the other is actually doing what you said,"Which is it? Knowing the special moves, what strikes do what, and what combos do what is essential to playing the game." This doesn't exist in MK, players abuse cheesyness.
3. Projectiles are far too easy to dodge without putting you into danger of being attacked, the reason people do use them is because they're more bothered about the authenticity of throwing the spear with Scorpion than actually caring about how it helps you win a fight, hence them being the casual type that have seemed to have plaugued the fighting game genre in the last few years. The only effective use of a projectile is to start-off/continue another of those cheesy, glitch infinites.

You are still assuming I don't know what I am talking about. Kinda irritating.
1. These are people who won out of state tournaments and various "my polygons can beat your polygons" contests. They knew what they were doing. You calling them names does NOT change the fact that it happened. Yes, I have seen good tekken players.

2. I have seen cheese abused, but I have also seen incredible skilled players, like danadbab. My point is still, players have a harder time mashing in MK than in Tekken, because MK has pauses in its moves if you do not know the speeds of some moves and the connection of them. You STILL have to know what you are doing. Tekken, not so much so. It's silly to deny that. You can NOT button mash in MK as MUCH as you can in Tekken. Period.
How could knowing what strikes do what, recovery time, and what buttons execute what hits NOT exist in MK??? You have GOT to be kidding me.

3.What you said still does not change the fact that they are used widely as deterrants, setting people up for other moves, and yes, damage. What you said also does not change the fact that they are non existant in other 3d fight games, setting MK apart.

all i have to say is, any fighting game can be a button masher. iono care how deep u say a fighting game is. every fighting game i played, whether 2D or 3D, can be mashed on and still win. dont argue about it, there's no point. all u gonna do is give each other a headache. the bottom line is that deception won, had another good fighting game worth playing came out last year it wouldn't have won. and as far as im concerned, the only fighting game i know of thats had more than one different fighting engine is the mk series. the VF, tekken, and doa games has had little innovation in each version released.. ion care what yall say. hence the fact that i never bothered purchasing a tekken game (i might get tekken 5 tho). this debate is pointless overall and thats all i gotta say. but oh well, i like reading people argue lol
