I thought Deadly Alliance was pretty poor... I actually stopped playing the game pretty early on.. Some of the returning characters were great (Kitana, Raiden Kung Lao, Sonya, Cyrax) to see... however... There ware way too many cheesy characters (Mokap, Cage, Jax, Hsu Hao etc) and the arenas were awful for the most part (those damn invisable barriers). I hated how certain characters like Kitana were short changed with only 2 moves where others had 5. To add insult to injury... she could throw her fan and not get it back which left her with one special move. In saying that I loved Lei Mei, Frost and Nitara's inclusion
I loved the dark feel of Deception. The cast of returning characters were amazing (Mileena, Baraka, Jade, Sindel, Ermac, Nightwolf, Tanya etc etc) and the new forms of Raiden and Lui Kang were masterful concepts. Deception's areanas were alot more atmospheric (prison & nethership being two favorites!) and organic feeling. The konquest mode actually made it interesting to learn the characters and to learn a bit about the storyline. Puzzle fighter is fun to play and Chess mode is fantastic.
For me
DA - 7
Deception - 9.5

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance is my fav MK game to date. As others have said it is more original than Deception. Fighting was the main focus of the game. MK: Deception to me went too far with those mini games, which affect the the lack of new features in the fighting aspect. I mean Mortal Kombat is a fighting game and nothing else. If the MK team had focused much of there efforts of the fighting MK: Deception could have been Mortal Kombat Armaddon, which added way better gameplay elements than Deception never came close to doing, as much as armgeddon has done. The MK team should left that mini game stuff to another games that isn't Mortal Kombat. Also I think that MK: Deception was trying to bring back too many characters and areans, from MK's past, which made it even less original of a game.
MK: Deception konqest was 90% pointless and non cannon, whereas MK: DA konquest filled in the storyline caps of MK past and introduced new story elements. Not to mention the storyline is very well put together. MK: Deception 's storyline starts from the intro and doesn't go anywhere else.
Deception konquest spent too much time running around on these tasks to unlock stuff. I didn't feel like running around unlocking game content such as areas and charactersThats was bad for those that just wanted to play the fighting game. MK: DA's konquest is straight forward training with characters.
The fighting in MK: Deception is very slow compared to MK: DA This makes countering way too easy. Also the controls aren't as responsive in Deception than in MK: DA. Fighting in MK: DA is way more fluid. MK: Deception didn't do much with MK: DA engine, in fact all it was is a more flasher and slow version of MK: DA with more fatatities.

now that I think of it, MKDA was kinda better. Less moves which are normally whored out, smoother graphics, beautifully drawn renders, nice mini-games, and amazing new characters and character make overs
MKD, had more special moves, two fatalities which the second ones sucked pretty bad, very nice renders, but not as good, horrible new characters, fun mini-games, Great roster that included returning characters.
MKDA was still extremely good, even tho the roster contained the same characters from multple previous games (Kitana, Sonya, Jax, Cyrax, Kung Lao, Cage, Reptile, which were all featured in many games in the past).
MKDA- 9/10
MKD- 8.5/10

I am so happy that Midway took away the IMPALE move. It was way too silly for me. I think they took it out because MKD now has the cliffs and the pit and you get impaled through the torso when you get uppercutted

IMO Deadly Alliance was better by far.
I still remember the hype when I first couldn't wait to play the game. The next generation graphics looked awesome, and I loved the teasers.
We got introduced to some sweet new characters, and the deadly alliance was a nice twist. DA had lots of kontent; the follow up towards the Dragon King was suspensive. His undead army....original ruler.....dragon.....you just couldn't wait for MKD...
But for me, it seemed Rushed, and I beat the game very fast. It had some cool new characters and the dark feel to it but it still lacked kontent; I never really liked the mini-games. Konquest was meh, and I can't stand Shujinko. IMO, Onaga lost all his hype, and he wasn't exactly what I thought. His army just "vanished" like that, and then he dies at the end in only one game, a waste of a character. Ermacs ending got my hopes up high for a way bigger, badder boss, but Blaze just didn't seem fitting for me.

I personally preferred the MKD fatalities. They were a lot simpler, and more brutal. Much like the good old days.

i like both, but deception better. anytime i play DA, i always find the movements more.............slow then MKD. i know that would make it kinda easier for the player but i always like a challenge so i can overcome it and improve my skills. and the "training" in MKDA is unnesscessary to complete the game. in MKD training is essential to complete story mode. therefore mastering the basics of every fighter in the game. but then its up to the player to master the tricks
. there were more arenas in MKD then MKDA, and there were more fighters.
all in brief, i prefer Mortal Kombat Deception

Well obviously MKD was better than MKDA why?
There are many reasons but the main reason being that MKDA is way way way unbalanced
Anyone even someone who has never heard of mortal kombat can win just by blocking and pressing x over and over and over. When my friend first got the game it took me sssoooooooooooo long to tell him not to do it.
In MKD they fixed this by adding breakers.
Also MKD's konquest mode was 100 times better than MKDA's.
